I like messy, complicated, and/or slow-burn romances ICly. Sweet and fluffy really isn't my thing. I want the progress of any romantic relationship to be natural and true to the characters' personalities. So much depends on the person playing the other character - the quality of their writing, their ability to contribute to the story in interesting ways, and perhaps most importantly, their maturity level. If done right, a romantic storyline can offer a lot of opportunities for character development, which is what I live for as an RPer. Done wrong, it can either become boring or turn into a massive source of stress.
