There actually IS a part of a Lalafell's name that dictates the family, but it's actually limited solely to royalty and the like. Case and point? The Sultana of Ul'dah.
Nanamo Ul Namo. The Ul denotes her as part of the Ul family. Mirroring it in Sil'dah, the Jewel's old counterpart, was the Sil family. Most Lalafell don't have that, however.
... That said, similar naming conventions and such are definitely a good way to show family without being royalty, as with the Coco family you mentioned.
