I've been wrestling with the idea of making an amnesiac who's been given a Lalafellin name on account of not rememebering theirs, and trying to make a name for them I've come across an issue that all the googling my fingers can manage hasn't found an answer for: What part of a Lalafell's name indicates their clan? Considering I can only find multiple instances of the same naming conventions, and all of them mention that Lalafell surnames are such only in form, not function, does any part of their name indicate clan? Or is it up to the members of the clan to remember who's related to them without any family naming traditions? I know that there's the obvious example of the Coco's in the THM guild, but I'm not entirely sure if that's actually a clan name, or if it is a clan name, does that still hold true for plainsfolk names. *shrugo* I just really don't know. I'm not the most well versed in lore and I'm still pretty new to rp, and haven't yet seen much in AAR to begin with.

I can field this one, I think.

There actually IS a part of a Lalafell's name that dictates the family, but it's actually limited solely to royalty and the like. Case and point? The Sultana of Ul'dah.

Nanamo Ul Namo. The Ul denotes her as part of the Ul family. Mirroring it in Sil'dah, the Jewel's old counterpart, was the Sil family. Most Lalafell don't have that, however.

... That said, similar naming conventions and such are definitely a good way to show family without being royalty, as with the Coco family you mentioned.

Chacha's already answered this one as well as I can! Some Lalafellin families (we've only seen royal families) use a single-syllable "middle" name to denote family like Ul or Sil.

The example of the Coco brothers all sharing the same AA repeated-syllable opener can denote family ties, however, it's not the only way to do so and another instance of a family-set of Dunesfolk Lalafells have something as simple as having "kk" in each of the C-syllabic suffixes of their forenames:

Seserukka, Popokkuli, and Nenekko.

Shalala and Checheroya, the mother and father of the above three siblings do not share the double 'k' as you can see. So it appears to be entirely up to the parents to come up with a common naming theme/component for their children.
