IMO, the sorts of things you cite in your spoiler tag are the kinds of things you have to either elide or genericize.
Even SE falls into the "you're The Chosen One" trap in their plot from time to time, but they've done a good job, I think, of avoiding that for things that are critical lore about PC adventurers (and if you want to know what those are, PM me and I'll spoil
).
To the point about styles, I don't think anyone's going to say "RAR! You can't RP on this server!" because what you want to do is different than what others want. I think we're all just discussing and explaining our various takes, preferences, and ideals.
