Oh by Bryegot this is an entertaining thread,
I've had a few, in various settings, perhaps most commonly was WoW because as many may or may not know, you needed to be in a Raid group to enter certain instances, and I always loved meandering around Karazhan. A guildie (lets call him J-kun) often indulged me by letting me sit in group with him while he crafted and auction housed to his hearts content. I would invite others from time to time but often he'd remain ignoring our shenanigans (which were minimal since you could just use /say once they showed up inside the area.) But lo' and behold, some days I seem not to be blessed with that level of competence.
Quarimar in raid: "Oh. we're already inside, just let us know when you show up."
Friend 1 in raid: "alright, i'll be there shortly, just landing in the swamp right now"
Friend 2 (in the dungeon with me) in raid chat: "Take your time, its not like Nightmare has a despawn timer. Speaking of which, who's the 4th wheel? friend of yours?"
J-kun in raid: "Yeah, I just help him with his time sinks."
Friend 1 in local chat: "Oh ho? I bet he also helps you 'lay some pipe' a nice big strong Orc is exactly what you need."
Quarimar in raid: "HARDLY. I might want to jump his proverbial bones, and I'll admit I like the shade of green, but do you have any idea how hard it is to find an Orc who speaks clearly? I prefer better conversation not just grunting and shouts."
Needles to say I was mortified, particularly because he asked for context and the rest of the party had obliged, evidently he didn't know I swung that way. I was vindicated how ever, when 1&2 proceeded to lose the roll for Nightmare SO HA.
In the context of FFXIV, I was having a discussion on dyes over /tell, deciding and debating what clashed with what, when I accidentally put in in /say. We just continued on with it through /say, but I face-palmed pretty hard when a stranger decided to start commenting as well. Besides, bright Yellow on robes for a Thaumaturge? I'm not looking for subtlety, but I think it hardly fitting.
