If you don't like the darklight cowl, do what everyone else does and get a weaver to craft you caster vanya. The HQ versions are just as powerful as darklight cowl when taken together, and if you meld them, they're even more powerful.
I've been using a vanya robe on SMN with a few materia in it (not overmelded, though) since both Acheron and the ADS hate me and won't drop caster body pieces.
