(This post was last modified: 02-05-2014, 02:16 PM by Vairemont Malveaux.)
Inspired by the discussion in the Roleplaying an Isghardian thread, I have begun making plans for a series of events which will eventually lead to the founding of an IC Linkshell for Ishgardian expatriates and their allies.

Here is the plan.

In the recent years since the Calamity, Ishgard has been lately hemorrhaging deserters into the warmer, southern lands belonging to the Eorzean Alliance (Ul'dah, Limsa Lominsa, and Gridania). Many reasons could be cited for this, everything from newfound fear and awareness for the might of the Garlean Empire, to the murderous winter climate that taken Coerthas hostage—compounding with whatever personal reasons individuals might have for losing their sense of patriotism and zeal for Halone and Ishgard's long war against the Dravanian Horde. While this isn't exactly canon, it is in line with an influx of Ishgardian characters (who make up for a fraction of Ishgard's true population).

The Faces of Mercy, a band of assassins who work outside the law as the invisible hand of the Archbishop, have been given the rare task of leaving Coerthas in order to begin hunting down these traitors, who will not be forgiven for abandoning their homeland. Some deserters, especially former knights, possess certain strategical knowledge of Ishgard's army and may well be working against the Holy See.

Recently, the Faces of Mercy have begun taking live prisoners and escorting them back to Ishgard, where it is promised they will be pardoned and conscripted back into the army (or simply in the army, if they were not formerly Knights) if they return willingly. If they refuse, they will be killed on the spot.

Meanwhile, an odd string of murders in Limsa Lominsa, Gridania, and Ul'dah has captured the attention of the local authorities. The victims appeared to have died from wound caused by several blades. However, due to the nature of Limsa Lominsa's motley population of thieves and former pirates, the high, lethal trade competition within the walls of Ul'dah, and the poachers that roam the forests around Gridania, the three nations' Grand Companies have yet to discover that these murders are related to those in other cities. Drawing such a correlation will be inevitable, but once it is known that the victims are former Ishgardians, it will only serve to draw further attention to expatriates and attract the Faces of Mercy.

This is where Vairemont Malveaux comes in.

Having become wise to the schemes of the Faces, Vairemont has been working in secret to gather former Ishgardians in a plot to counter the efforts of the assassins and save his former countrymen from the wrath of the archbishop. It is not something he can do alone, and nor can he alone gather all the former Ishgardians he will need.

And that's where YOU come in! *fanfare*

I would like to add every member of the LS through RP (but I can invite anyone who wants to stay in touch and RP themselves in later), and afterward start doing RP events that revolve around this storyline. I would also be thrilled to involve patriotic Ishgardians to act as antagonists, or even to defect DURING this course of events if he/she wants to.

What do you guys think? Anyone interested?

Vairemont will happily hunt anyone down if I'm given permission (I may ask to use parts of your history). I'd also be glad to hunt down someone's friends who don't frequent the RPC forum (what's more fun than a stranger turning up out of nowhere and somehow knowing some of your deepest secrets). All you have to do is sign them up! >_>

By the way, if anyone would like to learn more about Ishgard, here is a little article I wrote, taken from a lore thread on my FC's forum.

Coerthas
Show Content
SpoilerThe mountainous region of Coerthas lies north of the Black Shroud, dominating the central, uppermost parts of the Aldenard continent. The Shroud remains as the only “friendly” border left to Coerthas, as Dravania to the east is filled with Dragons and Xelphatol to the north and west may be under the power of the Garleans. This makes Coerthas the northernmost destination for any Eorzean merchants looking to sell their wares. Since the Calamity, however, relentless snows have overtaken Coerthas and transformed the region into a frozen wasteland. This has decimated the local wildlife, leaving on the strong and ferocious to survive. Agriculture has now become almost impossible, leaving the inhabitants of Coerthas to rely on sparse harvests of winter wheat, fishermen, hunters, and traders brave enough to venture the frozen lands for sustenance. A colossal piece of Dalamud can be found in the western area of the Central Highlands, surrounded by even larger growths of blood red, corrupted crystal. Only one aetheryte camp remains in the area after the Calamity’s destruction.

Here can be found the infamous Witchdrop, a deep ravine cut into the earth where suspected heretics and blasphemers are forced to fall to their deaths.

The Dzemael Darkhold can be found in this region, a subterranean fortress built by House Dzemael in an attempt to provide shelter to those fleeing the Dravanian Horde. The caves are now swarming with voidsent, but despite this the house refuses to relinquish its claim to the place, believing that if it can be cleared out, the hold might still be utilized.

The four High Houses of Ishgard are established through the region in order to maintain military control of Coerthas, primarily in defense against the dragons but also the Ixali and Garleans as well, should any of their armies press an assault. These Houses exemplify to outsiders Ishgard’s nobility and caste system.

To the south lies the Aurum Vale, a cursed place that once drew flocks of miners with rumors of mythril and gold. What they found instead were pools of gold-colored venom and morbol nurseries, which claimed the lives of many.

Twin Adder units can also be found within Coerthas, in cooperation with the Ishgardian Houses.

Overview
The Holy See, or holy sovereign state, of Ishgard is a theocracy presided over by the Archbishop of the Church of Halone. The city-state is situated upon a peak beyond the Steps of Faith, past the Gates of Judgement, but Ishgard forbade the entry of outsiders fifteen years ago during the Garlean invasion—the archbishop wanted to prevent any nonbelievers from entering the city. Ishgard infamously withdrew from the Eorzean Alliance to focus the power of its army in an age-old struggle against the dragonkind of Dravania. Ishgardian Knights are sworn to the Holy See for life, and desertion is punishable by death. Ishgard cannot afford to take risks and remains vigilant against heretics bewitched by dragons against the Holy See. Inquisitors from the Church uphold the order within Ishgard and exercise the Archbishop's will.

Every chocobo in Eorzea can draw its lineage back to Ishgard, which is still the leading provider of Eorzea’s chocobos. Ishgard refused to deliver them to all the other city-states due to a devastating chocobo blight that lasted for a time, but the Calamity saw that the flocks were scattered and many fled to the Black Shroud, where Gridanians have adopted the birds as their own. Ishgard appears to have a caste system involving wealthy and established Elezen families as nobility. Only the four High Houses however have any presence beyond the city walls.

The High Houses
These High Houses have been tasked by the archbishop with the responsibility of defending and maintaining key points throughout the Coerthas Central Highlands. The Houses are:

House Haillenarte
Lord Francel of House Haillenarte, as his father’s fourth born son, has been given the responsibility of controlling the Skyfire Locks, which are manned and cared for by Haillenarte guards. Formerly, House Haillenarte protected the Stone Vigil, one of the four watchtowers built along the Sea of Clouds, but the watchtower was lost to the dragons. The symbol of House Haillenarte is a rose.

House Durendaire
In addition to its claim over the Observatorium in the south, Lord Drillemont of House Durendaire controls the Whitebrim Front fortress. He has begun to set about the task of reclaiming the Stone Vigil from the dragons after Haillenarte’s failure to keep it secure. Unlike the other more lenient Houses, Drillemont will not tolerate interloping sellsword or adventurers. The symbol of House Durendaire is a bell.

House Fortemps
Lord Haurchefant of House Fortemps currently holds Camp Dragonhead, a key military fortress that secures the front line against the dragons massing in the fallen Steel Vigil watchtower as well as Coerthas’s only remaining aetheryte camp. The symbol of House Fortemps is a unicorn.

House Dzemael
Having the weakest presence in the Highlands, House Dzemael lays claim to the Dzemael Darkhold, which is currently infested with voidsent. The symbol of the House is a tower.

History
Ishgard was founded around one thousand years ago during the Sixth Astral Era. Legend goes that Halone, so impressed with the spirit of the Ishgardians’ ancestors, saw fit to make these people her own. She appeared before a man of courage and integrity name Thordan and bade him to lead her people to the Promised Land, which would become the nation of Ishgard. There, they came upon a great chasm and began constructing a bridge. It was then that a dark shadow descended upon them—the great wyrm, Nidhogg. Heedless of his own safety, Thordan fearlessly charged at the colossal beast. Alas, he was pushed into the chasm by one of his own men, bewitched by the dragon’s power, and he fell to his death. Overcome with grief, a man (Thordan’s son? Thordan’s squire?) called Haldrath took up his sire’s spear and pierced out Nidhogg’s, his hand supposedly guided by Halone. Nidhogg roared in pain and took wing, fleeing as the people rejoiced below.

Thus was created the artifact, the powerful Eye of Nidhogg, capable of exerting control over the hearts of men. Haldrath’s pure heart and love of justice brooked no corruption, and he prevailed over the eye’s power. With the power of this relic, first Azure Dragoon was born.

Settlements outside the city-state:
Show Content
SpoilerMonument Tower
A lonely tower in the western highlands, manned by Ishgardian Knights, built to keep watch over the nearby Fury’s Gaze, a small cavern. Hidden within the cavern is a gem whose price is beyond measure. Monument Tower now also keeps a vigil over the nearby Garlean outpost in the name of protecting Ishgard.

Camp Dragonhead
Named for the nearby rock formation, Camp Dragonhead is a fortress under the control of House Fortemps. While the bulk of Ishgard’s military is locked against a war with the dragons, Ishgardian Knights sworn to House Fortemps maintain and defend this encampment against the encroachment of Ixali or other hostile forces. Housing Coerthas’s only remaining aetheryte crystal, the camp also offers a kitchen, merchant stands, and a barracks. Dragonhead sees the bulk of adventurer traffic in Coerthas.

First Discaterial Observatorium of Aetherial and Astrological Phenomena
The Observatorium is a towering structure built at the archbishop’s behest to observe the stars and through them, predict events to come. Like every other aspect of Ishgardian culture, the agenda of the tower’s astrologians is not so much one of scholarly pursuit, but one of finding advantages in their ancient war against the dragons. The lifespans of dragonkind far surpasses those of men, so in order to read the enemy’s movements, astrologians must be able to see ahead tens of years. As little can be done to this end from the ground, the astrologians look to the heavens. The Observatorium is controlled by House Durendaire.

Gates of Judgement
The passage to the Steps of Faith and the sole means of entering the Holy See of Ishgard. Outsiders and unbelievers are banned from entry, and the gates are fiercely guarded by a regiment of Ishgardian Knights who see to it that the unworthy do not step foot the city. The Gates of Judgment lie in partial ruin, either from the effects of the Calamity or the onslaught of dragons (or both).

Whitebrim Front
A long-standing, key outpost in the war against the dragons, especially after the fall of the Stone Vigil. The bulk of House Durendaire’s forces, as well as Lord Drillemont himself, keeps a presence here and are amassing to retake the lost watchtower. The Whitebrim Front fortress is equipped with the usual amenities to Knights on the frontline, including a kitchen, barracks, infirmary, and holding cells to detain criminals, cultists, and heretics.

You can tell the size of a man by the size of the thing that makes him angry.
