I'm really enjoying it but there's a few things I don't like about it, which will probably drag me back to Dark Souls II for long term PVP.

The effects of the rings are put into Runes/Seals whatever the fuck they are called. You have to switch them out at the bench, once you get far enough in the game.
Main-hand weapons are basically two weapons in one, the lack of variety is vaguely balanced out with this annnnnnnd: I like the simplified stats, the weapon customization is MUCH deeper than Souls. You can make STR weapons scale with SKL instead, you can add poison to weapons without having to lose base damage. It's wicked nice. The game is focused on evasion and offense all in the same motion. You can evade through everything, nearly anyway. I noticed I was able to just stay on bosses 90% of the time and had a much higher survival rate than trying to get away. The most distance gets you killed it seems like. I've died more to random wolves and dog than to any boss so far. Along with another mob I won't spoil here, they remind me of trick or treaters. (You'll see.) As Hunters, we answer only to ourselves (and blood). It's nice that I don't have to grind rep with anyone this time. I like the coop better here too, even the PVP is already better than Dark Souls 2. Plus the hitboxes are a bit better than Dark Souls 2, Yay! EDIT: I stand corrected! There ARE Covenants. Won't spoil too much though. This game is everything good about the Souls series in a different environment and better. It's super gorey and bloody, has plenty of personality. It's most crippling features are the load times, which last I heard are getting patched out hopefully and it's absolutely shitty framerates. They TANK when too many things are on the screen or you do multiplayer. Really kills the mood running at 30fps in a game so pretty but it's worse when it drops dramatically sometimes. I say, if you have the system and the money, it's a great title to add. For vets from the Souls series you should give it a shot and see if you can handle it. It's a real ego crusher if you hid behind a shield in Souls. You just can't do that in this game. Don't second guess yourself, just rush that shit down and paint it red! |

Also another word of advice for new people.Â
If you see a group of humans 3+ in numbers. Don't even think about it, this isn't assassins creed. You will kill one More will appear You will be mobbed You will futiely run or dodge They will set dogs on you You will be caught You will be ripped apart You will die Kevin Gates - Told Me

I really disagree, the evasion really lets you dance between all of them like it's nothing. It's really about paying attention to your stam and not boxing yourself in. It's pretty much the opposite of what you should do in Souls. Get in there, I'm telling you.
You can transform attack into evasions, it allows you to get i-frames while getting off a nice power attack- stuns and the advantage. Picking the apart one by one works but you risk boxing yourself in faster. The weapons hit multiple targets and have such intricate animations for a reason I think. |

They will attack you from every angle. There's simply too many to go all offense about. Kevin Gates - Told Me

The way the game works, it allows for a few different playstyles. Since red health can get gained back within a certain amount of time- getting clipped by something doesn't mean the end. With the Cane I was able to take on that group. Rushed the fellow on the ground with the firearm, zip back to the next mob and used my own pistol to interrupt an attack/evis. You're invincible during this. It gives me time to think about my next move. The main thing I had to worry about was the ranged guy on the carriage and the dog.
It's not so much 'swing ur armz' so much as using the flow of the fight to your advantage. They telegraph often and you'll just need to be attentive. You'll see. Pretty soon there will be a ton of videos with people all playing different and you'll find it's very possible with the right movement. Don't get discouraged! I promise it can be done. Weapons have big arcs and being able to transform INTO evades that also attack? It's not easy by any means... at first. Eventually it'll become second nature. EDIT: Another thing me and a few other peeps playing figured out. I don't recall seeing in this thread On the subject of getting recently lost HP back with attacking, it's also possible to swing a dead body for a few seconds and still gain HP. Say you traded blows with something and you finished it off. If you keep swinging at the body you can still get HP! Even if it's already dead! A good example is those giant boars- you can apply this nearly anytime you get the chance. Only a few mobs I've seen it doesn't work on. |

If you are just starting out, I would recommend a Skill build. This game is VERY much more offensive and fast paced than its predecessors. While dying doesn't feel QUITE as punishing as the other games, they did go back to classic check mark styles, so you are going to have to reclear unlike some that seemed to have bonfires scattered like 7-11s (lookin at you DS2.)
I was a little shield and spear magic bitch so I am like, caught on the second boss, but holy shit I like this way better than the others. Especially the theme. My only anger comes from my shitty inability to play it well enough to see more of it. There IS magic, but I would recommend saving arcane builds for something like, second play throughs. The magic type weapons equip on your gun slot and consume bullets. Some are pretty bloody epicly powerful from what I hear though. Not worth first go around speced though. To be honest, I screwed around with the character editor so much. Aptly named my character Devereau because I am awful. ![]() |

So my 1st complaint about the game is that there seems to be a lack of direction of what I'm suppose to do. Do I simply wander thru an area killing things while trying to make it to the next area? I'm assuming there are no quests to undertake? (that or I have not discovered any yet)
I'm still at the starting area, but past the burning fire with everyone gathered around it, I'm in the alley with all the dog cages, and I'm still not sure what I'm suppose to be doing here exactly. And yes, I suck, and I'm a noob, etc etc etc. Lol |

The way you have to approach these games is to just explore. The whole set-up is very hands off and sort of expects you to just try different things each time. Most of the dead-ends just lead you to loot and everything else has a purpose. Wander around as far as you can go, you'll figure it out eventually.
Don't worry so much about sucking or being a noob. It just came out and even the best players take a long time to get really solid at these mechanics. The games learning curve gets VERY steep once you reach a certain zone I won't name. I was lost there for a whole day, it was truly a nightmare. I just completed the game. I think, at first I was very 'whatever' about the game but now that I've done my first playthrough I'm more or less happy with my experience overall. 30 hours almost to the minute. The theme is a very strong selling point for me, and the combat kept me there. I'd even venture to say it's infinitely better than Dark Soul 2, but in a strange way it's unfair to compare the two titles. My first class was a 'Waste of Skin'. I liked having the ability to sort of experiment with different stats and ended up focusing on STR. Favorite Weapons were Stake Driver (That charged attack with knockback was INCREDIBLE) and Tonitrus. (Tesla mace, fast animation but terrible reach, not that the Stake Driver was any better.) I used the cannon as my gun for a little, but the Pistol ended up getting the most use from me. Both just had simple damage boosting bloodcrest thingys I can't remember the name of. I used Eviserate healing and Bullet Restore and Damage Reduction runes on my self. Ended up at lvl 67. I'm pretty sure I could have done it lower if I payed more attention and was more patient. Like Dev said, I think Skill based weapons are much better for beginners. STR weapons have a really long animation cycle and require a lot of set up. It's good for vets but not so much for bullheaded stuff I don't think. Invest in Bloodtinge weapons too, they have some interesting effects outside of 'parries'. Again, remain confident in your choices and don't second guess yourself. "The sky and the cosmos are one." |

Beat the 1st boss on my 3rd try, it was awesome!
So far I'm loving this game and how it forces you to think out strategies, attacks, and makes you pay attention and not get to cocky when you are doing good. I can't remember how many times I've died right after thinking, "okay this is easy, I got this" |

Playing this will make you a better Dark Souls player since it takes away the shield crutch.
