He shakes his head at her annoyance. "I'm nae patronizin' ye. Ye responded properly given th' circumstance ye faced." He takes a breath and returns his blade to it's sheath as he delves into the next topic. "Far as th' twelve goes, a cycle ago I'd have agreed with ye. I used te think tha' any bein' tha' did nothin' te help th' helpless were nae worth th' energy used te worship them."

He pausing for a moment, setting his shield down and crossing his arms. "An' then th' cavern in Coerthas happened, I realized tha' mayhaps everythin' up te tha' point had been a test." He motions toward the refugee camps. "Much as this moment could be their test, we all have a place an' time tha' acts as a crucible, a forge if'n ye will, tha' is meant te make us who we are ultimately meant te become."

He kneels and stretches out his left leg again. "Far as weatherin' a flurry o' attacks like tha', watch fer an openin', an if one dinnae present itself a it will abate soon enough, tis rare tha' someone can hold such a pace fer long without tirin'. Th' can also create an openin' in yer defenses as ye saw.. so be wary lass."

Evangeline listens, before nodding thoughtfully, "I will keep that in mind, Master Wolfsong." She stretches slightly, "I see you putting your blade away once more. Are we done fighting for the moment?"

She steps closer, "I was hoping you could instruct me in the more... spiritual aspects of a Paladin as well." Evangeline studies him for a moment, "Though sometimes I wonder if you'd be the best person for such a role."

"No offence meant."

He shakes his head slightly "None taken, I assure ye. An I'd be lyin' if I did nae wonder if I would be a suitable teacher fer ye."

He approaches Evangeline, holding his hand briefly above the cut on her arm as tendrils of a green hue reach forth to Eva and the wound begins to mend. "I've nae formal trainin' in th' spiritual aspect o' bein' a paladin. My path, started filled with doubt o' my very own worthiness o' th' title, eventually, it simply became a feelin', one tha' i have followed since."

He pulls his hand away from her arm satisfied when all that remains is simply dried blood. "If'n ye feel th' need fer a different teacher Miss Primrose I will nae be offended. I know my limitations, all I can do is impart my experiences upon ye."

"I think tha' shall be enough sparrin' fer teday, it will give ye some time te practice. Unless there was somethin' else ye wished te cover?"

She watches curiously as her arm is healed. Her books had always mentioned the restorative powers of paladins held alongside their martial ones, and it seems her teacher was no exception.

Evangeline flexes her hand slightly, feeling no pain. "No, Master Wolfsong, nothing you have done so far gives me reason to second guess my choice. Humility is a class trait that a wise teacher must possess."

"I do have one question though." She regards him curiously, "I believe to truly be a force for good, one must have love in their heart." Evangeline says this with no hint of humor, "I do not seek this path for such petty reasons as revenge, or hate."

She takes out a small cloth and wipes the dried blood from her arm, "Have you ever loved, Master Grimsong?"

This last question came as something of a surprise. He turned away to pick up his shield, he almost considered not answering it.

He picked up his shield and turned to look at Eva, His voice was solemn. "Aye, I have."

And then it hit him. He gave her a look as he wasn't quite certain he'd heard her correctly. "Did ye jus' call me Grimsong?"

Evangeline nods, placing her weapons in their harnesses, "Good, then I believe you to be a apt instruction, regardless of your words. Love will find a way, as they say." She stretches slightly, "I suppose I shall have to participate in more exercise."

Evangeline blinks, "Did I?" She scratches her cheek, "Sorry, not sure why I said that." She smiles wryly, "It must be because of your grim countenance at times."

He smiles softly for a moment. "Aye, tha may be." The soft smile becomes a sly grin as he looks to Evangeline. "Mayhaps I shall have te devise a nickname fer tha' prickly nature o' yers Miss Primrose."

"Would ye like te take th' day te practice what ye've learned? I need te think upon how best te approach yer next lessons."

She laughs, "I wait with bated breath to see what name you will choose."

Evangeline bows, "I will think upon what you have said, both on battle and the twelve." She winces slightly, "And possibly ice my bottom."

"Until next time, Master Wolfsong."

He nods, "Be well Miss Primrose, I will be here on th' morrow." He heads toward the makeshift table, then stops and looks at her as if an idea had just come to him. "How are yer skills in manipulatin' aether?"

Evangeline blinks, "I have some skill in conjuration, though I find myself unable to properly use it without a focus."

"As for enhancing my physical abilities... there was a time I trained with the hopes of joining the temple knights, though I found it hard going."

She sighs, "I tend to... overthink things. It makes it hard for me to use aether in the heat of the moment. I try to think overly on the act instead of just... doing it, like others seem to."

"Why do you ask though?"

Gharen inspects a couple of old barrels that had been cast out in the refuse pile while she speaks "Oh, I've seen this tendency te overthink tha ye have, might have te work on ways te destract ye from tha'. Otherwise I'm jus' brainstorm'n ideas fer tomorrow."

He picks the barrels up and sets them aside and checks that they sit level. "I think we'll be workin' on yer skill with a shield tomorrow, perhaps some other things as well. We shall see how th' day treats us."

Evangeline nods, watching him work curiously, "That reminds me, we've never spoke of payment." She smiles, "If you are spending so much thought on this, I must give you something in return."

Holding up a hand, "No need to say it now, but think on it. I am more resourceful than you might think."

She heads back toward the city, "Thank you for the lesson, Master Wolfsong. I eagerly anticipate the next."

For the third day in a row Gharen waited for his student on just the outskirts of the refugee camps, as he did so, he sat quietly in meditation. A makeshift training dummy stood behind him made out of the barrels scavenged from the day before. Filled with the plentiful local resource of rocks and sand for ballast it wasn't going to be moved easily.

He thought about how he might best tailor todays lessons to Evangeline's particular approach to things, he would need a way to distract her from over-thinking things so much, a task he surmised would be more difficult to do than with previous students.

Evangeline tromps outside the city, a look of supreme irritation on her face. Each breath punctuated by a small cloud of fog in the crisp morning air. She'd been humiliated, arrested, cheated on, and mocked, all in the span of a single night. Fatalistically, Evangeline wondered what torments this new day would bring. She'd wanted nothing more than to simply stay under her covers, and wait for death to claim her, but unfortunately, she'd made a promise.

And Evangeline always kept her promises.

Spying Gharen's form among the morning mists she walks up and plops down in front of him. "Good morning..." She says, lacking the normal honorifics, "Can I ask you a favor today, beyond anything else you had planned."

"Can you teach me how to endure?"

Gharen looks up to his student, remaining in his kneeling position, the request was sudden, it's tone, the look upon her face, and demeanor whether she knew it or not spoke volumes. For as oblivious as he could be for social cues even he could see that something was the matter.

It was a look that he was also possibly all too familiar with.

"Well, fer starters, what's happened? An' what are ye lookin' te endure lass?"
