If I had been there, I'd have ignored the troll as soon as I realized he was one. That's always been my standard response to people who want nothing but to cause trouble. I've never experienced or seen something quite like this before though, the only griefing I've gotten during my events have been people skill-spamming on top of rpers.
But yeah. It's not the right way to act if you want to gain friends that's for sure.

True. I misrepresented that a bit: Nothing gives anyone the right to powergamegodmode anything on another person. Anyone who believes they have capacity to do that has problems.

...that acknowledged, I'm still going to do what it takes to keep (my) events running smoothly. Nobody wants to have their good time squandered because someone had a sudden need for attention. To quote the eternally wise Agent J: Don't start none, won't be none.

Getting to see that stuff and wreck their day is almost worth the time invested going to one of these. But in engaging the fools on their own level, I'd just make things worse.

I don't even know what question to couch here. What the fuck is anyone supposed to take away from this?

The following assumes good faith on the part of Ser Sameguy, and can be disregarded if he was not acting in such.

Bearing that in mind, the emote suggests the same kind of action as somebody coming into any tavern covered in blood and collapsing on the ground. it's supposed to be something out of the ordinary that makes other players sit up and take notice, shifting the interaction to focus on this person if not for everybody, then at least for enough people that there is some roleplay specifically focused on Ser Sameguy. Note the glowing red eyes and how he specifically says "injure" rather than "kill" - ideally he would be subdued, rather than slain, and then interested parties could try and figure out what just happened, and he could proceed with whatever plot he had in mind.

It is, of course, a spectacularly bad idea for any kind of RP entrance just like dying one's way into a tavern, regardless of whether or not there's good faith on the part of the person making the post. Nevertheless, I can see the logic.

The biggest difference between stumbling into a tavern covered in blood and leaking entrails and turning up to an event and launching into an attack is that one gives you the option of reacting while the other requires you to do so. Sure, someone could just emote "Won't someone help that man?" and be done with it, but you're not given much of a choice when someone walks up and begins combat on not just you, but everyone around you.

It's possible he was just looking for an in, but you don't start up conversation with strangers by asking them how big their squishy bits are. Not if you want conversation to continue normally, anyway.

I don't see how it even requires debate. The fellow was out of line, he was rude when confronted about it, and honestly came off as more of a troll than anything else.
These events are NOT randomly held...there are threads of them here constantly. His comment on the RPC thing makes me more clear that he was well aware of this. Regretfully something like an organized tournament is not the kind of thing to go into a random bloodlust and begin attacking random people. More so a group of random people. There is little dispute over the matter at all.
He was out of line, he was by all rights likely just a troll...
And if he WAS legit, that is NO way to even attempt to enter into a community. In the VERY LEAST you send a tell to the person running the event, and you try to work out if you can have your idea work in that setting. If anything he was lucky there was some attempt to explain things to him, because that level of behavior should really just equate to being completely ignored.
In conclusion, want to do something wacky and make your character known? Stab up a ton of folks and make a scene? Do it the right way by going over it with the event leader and maybe even some of your intended stabbing victims. Otherwise, welcome to looking like a dingus.

To be fair, this sort of thing isn't really anything new. If I'm not mistaken a lot of people have endured something similar happening whenever they've made events of their own either here on in other MMO's.

With that in mind...do we really need a thread about it? I mean, people could create a thread each time an event is interrupted by someone but then it only really serves to give the individual in question the attention they're seemingly seeking.

It's also possible that the guy stumbled across the event, tried to get involved in a misguided manner and then ended up getting overly defensive when approached. As awful as I find his role-play one of the consequences of role-playing outside of instances it that technically anybody can approach and try to participate. Nobody has to acknowledge them, of course - but sometimes it's best to just quietly ignore problematic individuals.

Did the guy linger when called out or did he leave immediately?

Either way, this sort of thing happening back in WoW is precisely the reason why I no longer create or attend large events. Filtering out the undesirables can, unfortunately, be quite a stressful task.

Yikes! Reminds me of Gaiaonline RP with the amount of edginess going on here.

Going off that he's not a troll; I mean it's not worth the headache to argue with people like this. They tend to be really stubborn and set in their ways and tend to make everything worse if they get told to chill out one time too many. There's a way to do a dramatic scene but just out of the blue without any kind of discussion with the people involved/host is no way at all.

I think an interruption to the usual weekly event could have been fun, should the guy have gotten permission, and worked with the venue coordinators, with the intent to entertain other RPers at the event that otherwise are observers. After all, RP is a cooperative effort. Plus, shouldn't The Judge have something to do besides look like a badass on horseback? Wink But, from the accounts, it doesn't seem to have been the case that the guy made any attempts to be a team player, and was extremely rude.  To me, it also came across as extremely childish.

As others have said, coordinator's rules are what matter here, as it is their time and effort that goes into the event. Coordinating an interruption of that size is also a LOT of work and player wrangling to make sure all the players understand what's going on.

Commissions. I do them.

The Judge actually has a Magitek screen in his helmet and is also playing virtual Triple Triad while looking badass on horseback. Actually, if he isn't keep tabs on the fights themselves (and often even if he is), I have him making sure the audience is okay too. There's a lot going on, and the crowd also has some manner of protection during the event (the only fighting should be between the combatants and all that). I'm actually tracking a lot of things while Judge plods around all threatening-looking on horseback. Blush

But yeah, I would agree that something to shake the usual up would be interesting if it was talked about and planned ahead of time. Folks like Warren and Reiner are already doing a lot to manage things as they are, so knowing the surprise is coming will help them be prepared to deal with it and have the event adjust accordingly. Springing a guy who wants to attack the audience or some other violent drama just isn't cool, and throwing a biased fit about it afterword is even less so.

So in the middle of a crowd, the guy drew a LANCE and attempted to injure people around him....?

Did anyone ask how in the Hell he did that in the first place?  I'm just curious.  You don't draw a Lance over your shoulder, and having the lance on your back essentially means you can't really use it at very close ranges.  You'd need to have it out by the time you arrived.

Just adding on here, not only is it trolling, it's POS combat RP.  It's vague, it's unrealistic, but it's also really stupid.  Draw knives and start injuring people?  That makes a bit more sense.
