Not to de-rail the thread, but I wax nostalgic about 1.0 for this very reason. It seems like in 2.0, nearly every location has an express purpose in the game.
1.0 Thanalan caves were my bread and butter for the Wandering Mages (A small RP group at the time.) and the fact that Tam-Tara had its own Aether node speaks volume as to its size before the world reshape.
Ah to make the journey to Long Root again...
A few friends and I enjoyed exploring the "out of bounds" areas in Tera, climbing mountains and sneaking into empty zones that would have been for future content, but were empty. There were even a few times that we got a GM to join us and teleport us to places we wouldn't have been able to get to on our own. It's kind of sad that there aren't any such adventures to be had in FFXIV.

I think you misunderstood me; I started following that kind of rule precisely because I was sick of running through two or more ERP circles while going to the bank in Velika. (Though I hardly needed a good excuse to go exploring outside the bounds of the game to begin with.)
Either way, ERP is always going to be a touchy subject that everyone isn't going to agree on.
