For what it's worth the expansion so far is incredible - the quality of the storytelling and voice acting has improved immensely. In other words: it's worth the wait. Hopefully the issues will be resolved sooner rather than later - and the launch itself will be smooth.

It's definitely frustrating though...

Actually they're mostly referring to the "character lighting" setting they turned down to 0. Check it out in system config. XD We're no longer flashlights!

Actually, the character lighting is referred to another part of the Patch Notes, and as it says, it affects the light of the character, not the area surrounding him (I tried regulating, it doesn't affect how the sky looks at all, just how light or dark the character's armor/skin is). The sky is definitely different. I looked at it a lot in the past. There's more stars, and they actually have a sort of intermittent glow that was not there before.

Also, bleeeeeh! It's 5AM and the traffic is still insane!

To be an interesting, intriguing, well-written character, there needs to be something to allow the audience to relate to them. That is what the problem is with who wants their character to be "perfect". Perfect characters will never be strong, and strong characters will never be perfect, because WE (those who read, who watch, who RP) are not perfect.

"What makes a strong character is how they deal with their flaws, their fears, their turmoils, their troubles that get in the way. That's what makes them relatable." -- N.C.

there really isn't a 'plan' to fix anything. So I doubt we will see a resolution so much as its all about to get worse on the 23rd and stay bad until traffic dies on its own. Which hopefully will be within the month but I still don't feel I should pay them for an inaccessible game. I work from home and I can say I tried for four straight hours with zero results. Both times I even managed to get in a queue, the lobby error eventually booted me anyway. If we can't get on now, launch is gonna make it impossible.

I also like how they say that Gilgamesh and Balmung /happen/ to be on the same data center. You freakin' put them there! They didn't stumble in there on their own. What I managed to play yesterday was great but I'm left kinda bitter when its all a matter of luck if I can play at all and for how long. Probably won't go over with new players either. You are gonna have a free week when your game isn't playable to huge chunks of people? *thumbs up* Great plan.

I literally just bought the game, too. 1-20? No problem - worst part was just getting a character on Balmung. Then I had to wait a few days before advancing, because, well, Free Trial level cap. But then the early access starts and it takes a few hours just to get in game. And heavens forfend you get disconnected, because then it can be a few more hours to get back in.

And somehow I've still managed 12 levels in just a few days.

...I have way too much free time.

Yeah, I fear for people disconnecting in dungeon runs or something - imagine having to wait all that time just to get back into the game to continue. I had someone DC in an Aery run... but I think they were on a less-populated server, so they were back by the end of a boss fight. I worry such a thing will happen to me since that means a good half hour or so at least fighting to get back in.

And that's just for us who are pushing the new content. I can only imagine the frustration of those who just want to play normally (or participate in the Free Trial) under these situations. Fighting the data center errors and massive queues just so you can get back to trying to get a character through the 2.0 storyline.

I fought all weekend to get into the game. Made it past the lobby errors a couple of times but overall was frustrated by the hours and hours of errors. Last night it picked up again with errors and I decided to turn the game off and play something else.

And I ended my Sunday happy I'd done so.

Hopefully they can do something about the login errors because at this point, while I enjoy what I have seen, it's become too frustrating and time wasting to invest much more time into it. Sad

You just described my afternoon yesterday.

My game client froze up during Dusk Vigil (thanks, Nvidia), and it took me almost an hour to get logged back in, thanks to our friend the Lobby. Luckily, I was in Mumble with one of the party members and told them to find a replacement for me.

And that was the good part.

Had another hiccup later in the evening that forced me to close the game client, and that was the end of my day playing. I spent about four hours trying over and over to log back in, trying the Data Center Swap trick here and there, and no avail. I had to give up because work started early today, and just shrugged and went to bed.

I really, really like this expansion; it's been a blast to play (I had much better luck Friday, because I got in early and had no disconnect issues), and have found eight things I loved for every tiny little complaint. And yeah, I've seen much worse launches, but I noticed in my four-hour attempt to get in that I had NO trouble connecting to any of the other data servers. It was only Aether. The response I've seen from SE on the matter was less than encouraging.

So, kudos to SE's designers for making a fine expansion. To the people who handle the data centers, though - a pox on your sorry little arses.

I thought the point was more that Gilgamesh and Balmung are the two most populated servers, it just happens that a huge chunk of the population ended up on two servers on the same data center.

I'm starting to wonder if the RP community should take over a less populated server somewhere.  It wouldn't be optimal, but having our RP community essentially sitting on the two biggest servers makes this more painful for us.  There are deep roots though; there might not be a good way to go about this.

I imagine it wouldn't be easy to move an entire server onto another data center, though.  It's at least not something they're likely to be able to do by launch day.

I knew this would happen once I noticed it would be que every so often logging into Balmung. I'm sorry most of you have yet to enjoy the story or anything about Hevensward yet, but if you liked the post2.0 story, then know Hevensward will be well worth the wait.

But I dod hope they lock Gil and Bal from any new characters for a while or offer free transfuses to new worlds. Can't have some of the riches players destroying the economy of low pop severs after all.

I've started to wonder the same thing. I mean, it will never happen, but it would be nice.

However, around 9 pm EST last night I decided to poke around on Primal, the other NA data center. I could get on easy enougj! But every single server was closed to new charactets. I can only imagine what a new NA player must be thinking, unable to log onto one data center, and unable to create a character on the other.

So then I went to the EU data center. All but three were closed off to character creation. While I'm aware these restrictions are most likely lifted during non peak hours, it sure feels like SE'S servers are overcrowded as a whole.

Since I can only play during peak EST hours during the week, I feel like I have three options:

-derp around on my EU character.
- unsub for a month and come back hoping people have left... hoping people have left just feels like a flawed philosophy >_<
-radically change my sleeping habits.

I'll probably go with option 1 :p long live Zodiark!

Odd... I heard it was a million plus 100k per retainer. Maybe it's linked to the sever your trying to transfer to. Well anyways I'm sure there are more then a fair number of players sit on 50 million plus.

Also did they ever get to letting players from 1.0 transfer? I remember something about them not letting Legacy player transfer when they first starting to let players switch world.
