I feel like most people here are going to be in firm agreement in regards to the proper etiquette at role-playing events. I've found that the best thing to do in these situations is to just ignore problematic individuals, especially if they're not willing to compromise or listen to constructive criticism.

If it's someone seeking attention then they've succeeded. If it's someone genuinely new and overwhelmed by role-play then they're simply burning bridges by not being co-operative.

THis so damn hard.

It's a planed event not and NOT the spot open world rp. To be part of events you kind of have to play by the rules. Guy was going out of his way to interrupt an event as I see it. Safest way to deal with it would just ot hope everyone blacklists him and gets back to the event acting like he is not there.

The only sane response, Warren, is to slap the guy on ignore.

Engaging with him, trying to reason with him...those ways lead to madness.

Blacklist every time.  Dodgy

Just because it's a public event doesn't make it a free-for-all.  He can go do that elsewhere, with people that want to be part of what he's doing.

Call the person out on what they're doing, and if they aren't willing to conform to the rules of the event, then blacklist and ignore.

I think part of the issue is that getting about 60 people to blacklist a person is quite unreasonable. Especially with the amount of work that Warren and related put in to making sure everything is run properly.

Coordinating that many people while keeping the other arbiter and here's in the loop takes a lot of attention. And a lot of people have very different views on how to use the blacklist. I could almost certainly guarantee that if he'd done some /yell "Everyone, please blacklist <some guy> who is trolling the event" there would have been an outcry.

*Commences Sirklejerkism*

These kind of trolls are just looking for a fight with someone, likely the organizer. You did right, Warren. And if anyone said "Well it's public! There's no rules!" I point you to Larry David on "Curb Your Enthusiasm" where he once stated correctly:

"It's common courtesy. In the middle of the night, if I wake up to use the bathroom, do I need a sign to tell me to walk quietly so I don't wake others? No. why? Because it's common courtesy."

Look, this party you planned has a lot of people attending, and statistically someone is going to show up already drunk, puke in the pool, get naked, and pick a fight, so it might as well be me.

You're welcome.

Yeah This has only been a drop in a bucket of Trolls at Runestone. God knows how many Warren has had to deal with on Saturday. I'm usually proactive, speak with them once in a pm and ask them to stop. Then one ooc yell to everyone that the event and staff do not support this person or their interruption then go on about my event.

SPOKEN LIKE A BALMUNG SERCLEJERKIAN.

King of Circlejerk mountain.

Also yeah I would have done the casual decapitation. I have to deal with people such as this a lot when I'm RPing my brass blade. It takes two people to play ball, and if people are just going to shit all over an RP, ignoring them is the best way usually.

I've actually seen this happen a few times before, though I'm not a bit closer to understanding people who do things like this. Dazed The thing is though, most people who I see doing this kind of thing aren't actually trolling, they're just (in the nicest way possible) stupid. It's rude, even moreso given the fact that this was at an event. Strolling in and waving your weapon at everyone is generally gonna be met with the same IC, and expecting all present to drop whatever they're doing to get killed or maimed by your op-super-sayain-teleporting-invincible character is just not cool.
If it's an RPC circlejerk because people here understand that being rude isn't gonna get you anywhere then, well, I guess that's that.Angel

This is an old phenomenon and you have no obligation to give a shit about them or how they feel after they've made it clear they're not there to have fun, they're there to win.

This is not an isolated thing.  There will always be "That Guy" or "That group of guys"

Or even "That Guild of Guys".

And honestly? If some random guy just walks into (insert public place here) and starts beating the crap out of people for no apparent reason, I'm pretty sure others would step up and try to placate him. Even if that means a punch to the head.

He did run into the crowd, we were tightly gathered.

In his half-defense, I was halfway to emoting that I casually decapitated him (unposted) because 1) I've got a history at the Grindstone and 2) You SHOWED UP AT A TOURNAMENT OF FIGHTERS AND PICKED A FIGHT.

Try and jump the fence at the Octagon during the Main Event of UFC. I dare you.

This one irks me a bit. It's kinda as if you're saying 'I have priviledge / powergaming rights because you've been to the grindstone a plenty of times.

But that's about the only bit that irks me, otherwise you're in the right in the whole scenario.

In my opinion, that guy probably wasn't even trolling, or trying to be a jerk. It's rather that I know plenty of players that get frustrated when they realize that they can't be the center of attention / the guy in the spotlight in established groups. So they pull shit like this and stamp off any players not going with their headcannon as 'elitist assholes' or 'circlejerk mofos'. Because they can't be 'one of the cool kids' right off the bat. And the thought of having to 'work' for recognition in a group apalls them, because they equate it to 'sucking up'.

More or less, you met the prototype version of : Let me be in the spotlight or you're an asshole. And It wouldn't be farfetched if he behaved like this outside of events aswell.

We know the GMs watch these events. It seems unwise to grief them. Though I particularly loved the circle-jerk comment he gave right away when Reiner urged people to ignore the troll.

People have forgotten this truth. But you mustn't forget it. You become responsible forever for what you have tamed.
