I jumped on the Elezen train and fantasia'ed my lizard man into an Elezen one.Â Plus I will be attempting to learn how to White Mage (because apparently I like pain --; ).

I have a general backstory for him, but what I'd like to do is have him be an ex-Stillglade Fane healer.Â I'm still learning the lore there, but the impression I was given and got from the game is that the Hearers/(healers?) must follow the will of the Elementals, to the point where they have to not heal/help a particular person if the Elementals say 'no'.Â Can somebody clarify this for me so I make sure I have my ducks in a row?

Can confirm, but I must also make a distinction that sometimes gets misconstrued: A Conjurer of the Stillglade Fane will only heal what the elementals give them permission to heal, but that does not mean that the elementals deny these Conjurers the ability to heal these people. A Conjurer may choose to defy the will of the elementals and heal anyone they so choose, but at great cost to themselves.

What could possibly bring a man to take pity on that filth?

That actually helps me out quite a bit.Â I wasn't too far off base with my healer's backstory and why he left the Fane to begin with, yay!Â HeÂ attempted to heal against the will of the ElementalsÂ for a personÂ and well...bad things.Â Though it wasn't an Ixal orÂ anyone who was a enemy of Gridania, it was a member of his own family.

Are you looking to play a Hearer, or a Conjurer?

All Hearers are Conjurers, but not all Conjurers are Hearers.

Something to keep in mind is that Hearers are human, with all of the faults and flaws that every other human is born with. Hearers are born, not made, so it's not something they can choose to be, but rather, they are chosen (by the Elementals, or due to a simple genetic quirk, depending on who you talk to). As such, there is absolutely nothing to preclude a corrupt or dishonest Hearer, and since the vast majority of people can't understand what the Elementals are saying, and since the Elementals apparently can't understand mortal speech (Hearers may speak out loud, but it's strongly suggested that the communication isn't really taking place verbally, and it's known that the Elementals aren't able to understand non-Hearers at all), there is nothing other than another Hearer or Padjal speaking up to keep a dishonest Hearer from saying whatever he or she wishes for whatever reason.

They might be racist against the particular person seeking their help.
They might want the land a family is farming on, and use their power to entice the family to give it up.
They might be being paid by someone else to make life difficult for a particular family or person.
They might hate Hearing the Elementals at all times, and resent what they've been "called" to do.
They might be bitter about some past slight.

Etc.

Basically, you have a lot of wiggle room, in practice.
