I'm enjoying it immensely. The mode has allowed me to understand how to be a better Monk in PVE situations by not just using some abilities, but all of them.  Last night I received my Warwolf PVP weapon and I'm aiming for my headpiece today. I've collected my boots and gloves thus far while having a blast doing it. If I could find a PVP team to be apart of that would be fun, as I tend to be on the losing side more often than not. With that being said, I look forward to the future of what PVP has to offer. Sitting at Rank 13.

D'Ren! You and I are now PvP buddies! Yeah my friend just made the wolf gear and I see a big difference in my survivability as a healer now.

I have yet to PvP in FF14, but I feel like I would liken it to WoW PvP in the sense that you should always try and:

KILL THE HEALER!

I am sure if I ever did get into PvP, I'd enjoy it since I play games like LoL.

Eeeh, not always. There are times where it'd be preferable to have the healer CC'd and burn down a dps, such as an opposing scholar or black mage. Especially if the healer's a slippery little bastard.

I'm better than you.

Mmm, yeah I should have clarified and instead said:

KILL THE HEALER!...or...LOCK THEM DOWN SOMEHOW!

Because there is nothing more infuriating than beating the DPSer in the face but Healer McHealington is giving them Wolverine-esque levels of lolhealz.

Mm, yes. Seeing a dps go to full because of lustrate or benediction is a little disheartening, to say the least. But so is chasing a scholar and seeing six lustrates in a row cast on themselves.

I'm better than you.

Aww!

I WAS trying to post a link that would open up to the Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug trailer at the specific part where Smaug is saying "Come now, don't be shy..." but yeah, apparently I can't do a thing Tongue

If it makes you feel any better, it wouldn't be anything personal if I were to kill you in PvP Tongue

This thread's metaphorical cup is entirely too full.  Let's empty it a little.

I cut my MMO teeth on DAoC.  I was a high warlord in early vanilla WoW on my warrior.  I once got up at 4 in the morning several weekends in a row to defend my stupid emperium in Ragnarok Online back when I was a dumb teenager.

What I'm trying to say is that I'm big into PvP.

I recognize that PvP came in as an afterthought in FFXIV.  I recognize that it is more of a fun little mini-game at the moment than a full-blown way of playing the game.  Yet I can't help but be disappointed.  There's little strategy involved, and I doubt there'll be much of one unless they drastically overhaul the system.  Basic things like "stick someone on the healer so they can't heal and blow up the stupid black mage" or "SLEEP THEM BEFORE THEY SLEEP US" serve as a .. kind of a strategy, but the execution isn't there.  Then there's just the plain cardinal sin in any manner of PvP of having CC that lasts for more than 5 or so seconds at a time.

Maybe the flaws of the system will be more easy to overlooked come 2.2 when we get those big battles I heard rumors of, but until then, I won't be going into PvP with my regular gusto.  It's a fun little snack from time to time, but there's no meat to it just now.

Not for me.

Pretty much summed up right there. Its more like a mini-game at the moment which is fine until we get higher ranks because mind you there are PvP skills we can get to help in PvP that'll make things a bit more interesting but its all very new at the moment so we won't really have those skills so for now.. It'll be either smash the healer first or smash the BLM than the healer.

Also; we all hate the sleep but theres a way to counter that if you're dedicated to the PvP. Apparently there are PvP skills you can put points into to lower sleep duration and there are also matera, food, etc that do the same. It'll just take time to get them.

I feel like PvP once given more time for players to progress with be interesting and have a widdle bit of strategy to it.

I want to enjoy the PvP. I was extremely into the arena scene during my years in WoW. But I just can't enjoy something as much as I want to when it locks needed skills behind a wall of "You must first suffer through horrendously unbalanced PvP before you can have access to a complete character".

Shit-terrible design decision on Squee's part.

I do feel that grouping up with people you know is necessary. Otherwise, the Duty Finder group defaults to "kill opposing team's healer before your healer dies," which is as strategic as...well...it's not strategic at all, I think (._.). It's even less strategic than tank-and-spank for PvE, 'cause at least in tank-and-spank the group contributes to keeping the tank alive (healing, crowd-controlling enemies); whereas in default PvP the healer usually runs a solo marathon, healing himself/herself and praying that the other healer gets K.O.'ed.

From my experience, a group that stays together -- with every member keeping tabs on each other and crowd-controlling any attempts to zerg one member -- can play a much more successful and fun game for all involved.

In fact, I think I'll create a thread proposing that someone make a linkshell solely focused on "fun, friendly PvP," where "winning" has absolutely no place...because PvP can be so fun.

First off. Quick shout out to Dark Age of Camelot.

HIBERNIAN RANGER WHAT UUUUUUUUUP!

Now to play the Devil's advocate of sorts (or his asshole. Whichever comes first) I do honestly believe that making the Healer priority number one IS VERY strategic. Yeah, it is a very simple concept in PvP, but think about this for a second.

For League of Legend players, who do you always focus first? The ADC (AKA the DPSer for those who do not play LoL). You do that because A.) attacking the tank is stupid and B.) there really is no 'healer' in terms of like the healers in MMOs.

THAT being said, it sounds very basic and plain, but a wealth of strategy comes into both MOBA (like LoL) and MMO games. Just in different ways. Balancing issues and such put aside.

Perhaps the level/degree of 'strategy' varies from say MMOs to MOBAs to RTSs.

I agree that focusing on the healer is strategy, like how in PvE we want mobs to focus on the tank so no one else in the group takes damage. However, in PvE the group makes a collective effort to keep the tank from dying; the healers heal and buff the tank, the Black Mages perform crowd control to minimize the number of mobs beating on the tank, the Bards silence the mobs' big attacks, the Dragoons stun and slow mobs, etc.. In PvP, the healer (and in many cases, the Black Mage, as well) is the de facto "tank," but, unlike the tank in PvP, gets left alone to defend himself/herself while everyone rushes to down the opposing healer.

Yes, the healer is usually the best target. But I believe, from my experience with ffxiv's PvP thus far (with pre-mades and PuG's), that taking steps to protect the healer (and whomever else being targeted) increases the success rate of matches and allows for more complex strategy.

This I agree with but sadly this isn't the case half the time.. Because of the lack of ranking SE decided to leave out... Can't really do much when you're still gearing going up against a group in full Direwolf gear.. Not to mention how kinda brokenish it is to allow people to go in as classes instead of jobs in PvP. (Tell me you guys haven't seen the marauders going in and murdering healers in 5 seconds because of all those CDs they have access too.)
