Fixed that for you, V! :-D

I just assume everyone's their characters gender unless told otherwise. I could care less what you are OOC.

Not like I'm gonna be flirting with you or w/e. Too much work.

I think the whole thing is a little more complex than male/female polarized stereotypes.

I hardly ever play human types, I am always the elf or twilek or troll or etc.. And gender is just another facet.

For me this is a fantasy escape, with strangeness on most dimensions.. why try and overlay RL on it or even care what the RL persuasion of the other players is? Yes our play will be based on RL in part because that's what we draw on and fall back on, but it should be a place to unleash your creativity.

Embrace the madness!

I actually like to do the opposite. I like to play as a game's human analogue because I can relate more closely to them, which serves to highlight the strangeness and fantasy elements of the setting. Not that I dislike the other races. I'm especially fond of the tailed races.

RE: Female to Male Ratio - Ritsu - 02-21-2017

Some of my guy friends prefer females just based on attire alone. I also feel we have a pretty heavy female player base. Some do play males, but from my experience the majority I have encountered play females. (some with male alts.) At one point my FC was about half IRL female to male.

For me, I am female and I tend to play females. At least my two mains are. I have played males for plots/short runs of things. Maybe I haven't come up with a concept for a male character I have been like OMG about. I have been toying with the idea of making Chi's father for a bit, mostly for a plot with Roger. I also have a design for a male keeper I like...just don't know what to do with it XD

Do I care who is behind another character? Not at all. Male or female, bleeding is a hard no for me.

And I will fight for that as a valid approach, especially because you accept the "strangeness and fantasy elements of the setting".

Well of course. The fantasy of the setting is what makes it fun.Big Grin

I've played a good number of MMOs and I can say without a doubt that from my experience FFXIV has the largest community of women playing that I've encountered in an online game. My FC feels like its 90% women. Coming from other games it was kind of strange but I'm used to it now.

RE: Female to Male Ratio - Valence - 03-06-2017

Most of the females of my FC play males.

Anyway, courtesy of Ferus that digged that up:

I'm rather intrigued that this thread has generated 12 pages of responses.  I guess it shows, aside from the very valid points made, that there really is some concern here.  I also started playing this game as a female Miqo and was immediately impressed at how utterly unoriginal the decision turned out to be.  What I find fascinating now is that the disproportion has persisted over the year or so that I have been playing.  It is rather challenging to make a female miqo stand out and I applaud everyone for the attempt.

Sincerely
Savo

I eventually grew out of that and started to appreciate the idea of female characters getting to do cool stuff, so now I've essentially flipped around since I play women exclusively.

I've never actually thought about it much before now.

At any rate, as far as I'm concerned, I'm not going to disapprove of anyone playing what they'd prefer/are comfortable with. Gaming is supposed to be fun, after all.
I also started with playing male characters because back in the 90s online gaming was very much a sausage fest. There was a certain "girls don't know how to play" mentality that meant if you played a female character, you could pretty much count on no one taking you along for endgame content unless you wanted to be someone's gf.

I played a rugged male ranger for years. No one ever thought I was a girl.

P.S. My character here is a half midlander, half highlander. It was a decision based entirely off my love for highlander lore and still needing a reason for her to grow up accepted by Gridanian society- her mom was a midlander conjurer.

RE: Female to Male Ratio - Berrod Armstrong - 03-06-2017

I play 8 males in game. I have a crapton of female NPCS as well -- including a particular one at my FC house. Honestly, I lean toward playing males because it's just default to me. I don't even think about it beyond, 'I'mma play with dudemanz'. I play masculine males, feminine males, the inbetweenies, the undefined...honestly, I just pick a person that I want to represent and cram them into a toon -- who I then choose to be male simply because I lean naturally toward that preference in play.

I MEAN THEY AIN'T BAD TO LOOK AT, EITHER, SOMETIMES I FETISHIZE THE SHIT OUT OF THEM IN MY OWN ROTTEN MIND AND

Just about simple fun for me, tbh!
