Howdy, folks! - Grinawaeba - 12-11-2013 Howdy, folks! Around these parts I'm using the name Grinawaeba, but Grin or Grina will suit me just fine as well! While I've been playing MMOs since 2001 I have never really played a Final Fantasy game before, so this is a completely new setting for me and I'm excited to learn about it. I've been watching my girlfriend (Hammer on the forums here) play for the last couple weeks, and I've finally decided to give the game a go on her and my brother's recommendations. Usually roleplaying is a pretty big part of my gaming experience, and I've heard great things about this community already. It will probably take me a bit to get a character sorted out, but I have a vague idea for Grinawaeba already. The biggest thing I've struggled with lately is finding folks that are on and roleplaying at the same time I am. Due to work I tend to be a very early riser, so I'm usually only online from 6pm - 9pm EST during the weekdays, and typically more in the mornings and early afternoons on weekends. If there's an early-birds RP group out there I would love to hang out! In game I usually like playing tank or melee DPS classes, and for FFXIV I'm planning to start with the Marauder class. (Mmmm, axes.) I just can't resist classes with big chunky plate armor. I also like crafting quite a bit and Hammer has been pretty impressed so I'm excited to check that out, but I have no idea what my focus there will be just yet. Outside of MMOs I enjoy reading (mostly webcomics and audiobooks these days), drawing silly things, practicing for my medieval martial arts group, hiking and camping, exploring new places, and making new friends. I love dogs, ice cream, norse mythology, Neil Gaiman books, and bluegrass music. I also like talking about most of these things, and I'm always on the look out for new recommendations to try out. Though I've always wanted to dabble in cosplaying I've never found the time (or money) to do so before now, but I may start inching that way next year now that I have a decent sewing machine on hand! That's about it. I'm excited to learn more about FFXIV and to meet more of the community! RE: Howdy, folks! - Hammer - 12-11-2013 Hooray!! If you ever want to talk bluegrass or roleplay, just /poke Y'lyfiel Sikah, in-game. Cheers! RE: Howdy, folks! - Siha - 12-11-2013 Welcome to the RPC and Balmung Grin, I hope you find lots of RP and fun here! If you or Hammer ever see me in game you can feel free to poke me for some RP, I typically play from 7pm to midnight on Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays I'm off so I'm actually on in mornings so maybe we will indeed run into one another on one of those days! 8D Also, Medieval martial arts sounds really neat! And yaaaaaay Marauders! I really love that class but I hate tanking so I'm sad that I can't just be DPS in the Duty Finder. :< RE: Howdy, folks! - Roen - 12-11-2013 Welcome Grina!  I usually am on early on weekends and afternoons on Thursdays, so feel free to poke me for RP if you want! (I liked the maurauder too, but that's because of the trailer and I thought the character looked awesome) (where is the pally looove?) (*cough* I digress) So... welcome!  RE: Howdy, folks! - Aysun - 12-11-2013 I'm also an early riser and I can tell you you'll still find plenty of RP with having to go to bed "early"! RE: Howdy, folks! - LandStander - 12-11-2013 Congratulations you and your girlfriend have one an all expenses paid trip to Broken Chairs! It is an exclusive Roegadyn resort where you can be entertained by the random bar fights, enjoy the fine dining of our prestige restaurants serving up all you can eat marmot meat, and participate in games such "how many shots can you take before you trip over your own feet and fall in a puddle of your own vomit?". To claim this prize, please send a tell to Dennthota Ahtahrmwyn. RE: Howdy, folks! - Whittledown - 12-11-2013 Don't listen to Denn! It's a trap! The chairs are actually very sturdy and not broken at all! Get back in your cage, back I say! *pokes with stick* Speaking of sturdy chairs! Have you ever tried to sit in one of those chairs at the bar in Costa Del Sol? They are literally like the size of one butt cheek >.> RE: Howdy, folks! - Olofantur - 12-11-2013 /salute, Welcome to the RPC Grina, now normally I would proceed to post about 4 paragraphs worth of links and the like, but i'll assume Hammer can shove them your way, and instead try to wake up a little more T_T There are lots of people out there with fairly limited playing times so don't worry about feeling that you're missing out by being on too early in the day. If nothing else Intermission is a great start that in many ways seems to never truly go to sleep. You can if you also take a look at http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3026 while most dedicated to Euro players, I've had many people express that its excellent for "odd hours" roleplay as well. And just a bit of shameless self promotion, The Coffer and Coffin event occurring this weekend is open to all, and so long as you can reach Ul'dah, you're more than welcome to join us (THAT GOES FOR YOU LURKERS TOO!) http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/calendar.php?action=event&eid=55 Cosplaying is a lot of fun, i'm still trying to get the body paint juuuust right for my skin tone, but i'm used to putting a lot of effort into it, so I find it relaxing. That and compared to getting the Black Mage collar to sit correctly, its a breeze. Hope you have the chance to meet a lot of interesting people, and feel free to ask any questions you might have. EDIT: also, yay Roe!~ seriously, necks getting a cramp looking down at everyone, and i'm not even the tallest Elezen! RE: Howdy, folks! - Grinawaeba - 12-12-2013 Thank you all so much for the warm welcome! I'll be adding folks to my friend's list and keeping an eye out so I can say hi! I'm really happy to see so many folks that are around when I am, I hope that I get to roleplay or group with some of you all. @ Xerali: I would love to talk bluegrass sometime, I've only recently gotten into it so I haven't listened to that many bands yet and I'd love to hear what other folks like. @ Siha Xinkei: Oh, wow, it doesn't let you choose your role in groups? I really like tanking myself, so that's no big deal, but it's nice to have the choice. @ Brynn: I admit the armor they've got was a BIG draw for me, marauders just look really cool. I do like Paladins in general though, and I think they may have been my second choice! @ Denn & Hornet: Broken Chairs is a fantastic name, if I didn't mention that already. Thanks very much for the invite last night. I will totally be more chatty once I get my UI sorted out. (I swear the first 14 hours of any game I play is mostly spent fiddling with the UI.) @ Olofantur: Thank you! Yes, I have already checked out some of the links you put in Hammer's thread, but thank you for pointing out the European Linkshell! Also - I hope we'll get to see pictures of your cosplay! Hammer and I went to a local con recently and there was some great cosplay there. I also found that I really enjoy checking out the details work folks have put into their costumes - glorious! Did... did I see something mention that there's an in-game alphabet? I am an absolute sucker for those. I put a lot of effort into learning to write/read New Krytan so I will totally have to look into that more for here if it's actually a translatable thing!
