This thread is to just get a general idea of how many people are interested in this idea that me as well as people in Arcadeus (with the permission of Aldtosk of course) have started working on.

Aldtosk has been, for a while, wanting to do an event around Christmas so I presented to her the idea of having a theater play. This of course originates from a idea that has  been in the works for a very long time.

Essentially, we would get together every month or two and hold a theater play (with actors, costumes, music, scene props and even scripts). These plays will be retelling of historic events from all around Eorzea or generally just written in-house fantasy drama of things such a rivalry, love, war, brotherhood and genuine themes often associated with old theater.

We will have an in-house casting but we will also cast people from outside of the FC and give them characters and roles they will play. All props and equipment will be made in-house as well at no expense to the actors or anyone.

The stage itself will be downstairs, where the arena from the grindstone world cup tourney that Anelia hosted. It will, of course, be redesigned to fit a more theater based theme.

If I can get a good outside following for this, I can start soon and we can have our first play right before or after Christmas. The play of course will be winter themed.

So that's it. If you feel like you or anyone really would be interested in participating or watching this than let me know in-game or here. Thank you for taking time to read this.   <3

As I posted in the previous thread about it, consider me absolutely interested in participating.

How much work internally has been sorted out? (propmasters, script writers, etc.) Because this sounds like an amazing activity since I'm kind of locked out of progression in this game.

Regardless...I'd most definitely watch said theater pieces if that's all this is really asking for.

@Steel Wolf
Script writers have not yet been decided so for now, assume I am the only one working on the scripts.

As for outfits and props, props will most likely be handled by our veteran crafters and I will personally handle outfits since I can craft most of them since all my craft classes are nearly fifty.

With that said, I already have some base bare bone story's ready to work on and put out and I will be presenting them to Arcadeus today. Really, this thread is to gauge interest to see who would want to watch/participate and even donate resources if they want too. I will most likely reuse props and outfits greatly as crafting can be time consuming and a pain to buy alot of the more rare mats and shards/crystals/clusters for the crafting. With that said, donations will not be advertised or asked for but you are always able to give us some.   Smile

Can Chachan be a tree? He'd make a good tree.

... If he could sit still long enough for it.

(There's a drawing in there somewhere of Chachan dressed up like he's in some elementary school play shouting "IMMA TREE!" but I lack the artistic skills to do so.)

I'd actually be quite interesting in seeing how it plays out. You have a lot of potential for drama and interaction just with the prep-work and practice for the play itself. I've naught but one high school Drama class to back me, but my sources (movies and the internets) say that there's lots of tensions and clashes involved with putting on a play. So even before considering the play itself, you might have quite a few interesting events.

After that you have the play itself, and then the after-party. All sorts of potential there too. And, even if you discount all that - going by the recent Nophica event in Gridania - just having an event around telling a story and acting it out could be fun to watch.

... Just be mindful of hecklers.

As someone who's done a teeny bit of theater, I find this an awesome idea. Ah, auditions! The drama and hilarity that would ensue! Tongue Non-acting members can also be involved in some capacity (e.g. front-of-house, ticketing, ushering, etc. - in the Eorzean context anyway) and contribute to the outcome of the performance too.

(Also, this is definitely something my character Avis would love to poke her nose into. Or write a review for, at least.)

Not sure if my schedule would allow for this, but I'd love to help or be involved in some way!

((decides to take 15 minutes to write a post since homestuck doesnt update till 15 minutes from now.))

Thank you for such positive feedback everyone!   Big Grin

Development has started to an extent. Right now, we have decided on the theme of the play and what it will be about.

Spoilers down below for people who really want to know what we have decided roughly thus far.

Updates for the development of this will come out once a week starting now so there should be an update every Tuesday night.

Spoilers AhoyWeve decided the play will have a central theme of Coerthas in mind and the play will basically be an Eorzean version (something of our own creation) of Romeo and Juliet, where two Ishgardian houses are spurred on by an old rivalry that occurred generations in the past and two people, each from the opposing houses come together and are torn apart and ultimantely killed as a result of this feud between the two houses.

We do not have a template for the different characters that people can apply for in the play but we have a basic idea of who the male and female leads races will be. The male will be Hyur and the female Elezen. There are no names of the two houses or any characters yet and there has been no plot outlined or any initial script started yet but I have something indirectly in the works for this.

Never anything wrong with starting with the classics and going from there! Even more interested now, if that's possible.

@Titor
For now, we are focusing on establishing scripts or story's to do for plays done by people in-house. We will however take suggestions but they are not guaranteed to be accepted by the group.

More spoilers, yay.Romeo and Juliet was not our first choice but it was the most overwhelming and unanimous choice for a play in Arcadeus. Not going to reveal the other two ideas I had in stock though to preserve them for possible future plays.

So i decided to go ahead and post an upd8 a day early. Her ya guys go. It's not much really.

With casting, I have decided that the cast will be almost exclusively Elezen and Hyur as to retain with Ishgard's general racial population.

Names for the characters that people can play have not been created yet, however, I will give a very general and brief current list of main and side characters that people can play as.

I will also include a rough draft of the entire play with all the scene's respective to each act.

There will be an opening act, followed by three acts where most of the story will take place and the end act which will be the end of the play. There will be intermissions so people can run off and take short breaks.   (Note that while I am trying everything I can to make this not last hours, it is proving a monumental task to make it shorter.)

If anybody wants to fill in the role of any specific character in the casting list, contact me and ill look into it. Note that some spots will be reserved for people that I generally have in mind I think are fit and perfect for the role.

Bruh, seriously, dont do it.Opening Act: House A and House B, after much urging from their vassals and a request from the Holy See wishing them to dispose of their generation's long rivalry and become friends once again, hold a union party as the farther of the male lead role's offered the Male Lead role's sister's hand to marriage to one of the brother's (debatable which one this is). Many of the party goers sing and dance and drink with much merriment for this supposedly joyful occasion. Male and Female Lead roles are at the party. Their eyes lock and they fall in love instantly. Later that night, they do sex stuff after they manage to escape the party. Male lead bids farewell to female lead and says that he will come back to see her again once more.

special note: Male Lead role has lost two lovers two the war against the Dravanian and one which he was betrothed too but died of disease. He is a very big emotional wreck, with not look of joy on his face and only sadness in his heart but was dragged to the party by his best friends. Female lead role sparks his interest in her as she resembles on of his lost loves.

Act 1: Part 1: The first brother of Female Lead role does not like that his sister has such an interest in Male lead. He decides to kill the male lead by leading him out deep into the cold tundra on a supposed patrol for heretic's. Male lead and first brother Duel in the snowy lands with swords. Male lead drives sword into first brothers heart. First brother curses Male leads name and calls him a heretic before choking on his blood and dying. Nearby Ishgard patrol approaches. Male lead flee's the scene deeper into the snowy wastes to escape them.

Part 2: 2nd brother to the female lead hears of his first brothers death and that the Ishgard inquisitors think male lead did it. 2nd brother personally begins the manhunt along with a contingent of Ishgard Knights but before he leaves, bids the female lead to remain within Female lead's family keep where she will be most safe from the male lead which he thinks to be a heretic. The Female lead does not believe that the male lead killed her brother and while she grieves for the loss of her brother, she longs for her lover, male leads touch. She bids the Nursemaid to go and seek male lead out, who is most likely hiding amoung close, trusted and well connected friends.

Part 3: The Nursemaid finds the Male lead at one of his influential friends manors, a place where the 2nd brother of the female lead cannot pursue him. They speak for a time about what happend, her trying to learn if he is innocent or not, which he claims that he is because first brother was the one to draw steel first and attack male lead. the Nursemaid departs to go back to speak to female lead which she then tells female lead of male leads innocence in this. While female lead is striken with sadness and disbelief that her brother would do such a thing, she breathes in relief that male lead is not guilty of any crime.

Special Note: 2nd brother is an Ishgard Dragon Knight and a temple knight favored by the holy see.

Intermission one (20 minutes long) (during intermission, everyone will be asked to move to the bar upstairs so that way we can prepare the downstairs for act 2)

Act 2: Part 1: On the eve of one morning, the 2nd brother of the female lead and the Ishgard Knight contingent break down the front door of one of the male leads best friends place. The male leads friends tells him to flee. Male lead flees and Male leads friend draws steel on the 2nd brother Dragoon> Two close vassals of the male leads friend (two) also come out and draw steel against the six ishgard knights and the 2nd brother. They proceed to fight. Two knights from the Ishgard contingent are slain but the male leads friend and vassals are slain. Male lead is on the run. Today's winter winds are especially cold and he would freeze to death if not for a passing cleric of the holy church. The cleric offers him shelter, a warm fire and warm food. Male lead explains why those knights were chasing after him and how he is innocent. The cleric offered him respite at the small temple for as long as the male lead needed to stay.

Special Note: The cleric is a very kind, giving and gentle soul who believes that there is good in everyone and devoutly follows this belief by giving the male lead, who was branded a heretic, good will.

Part 2: Female lead hears of the fact that male lead has been spotted and that one of his friends was slain and that the temple knights are hot on his heels. She fears that male lead will not live through the night and shuts herself away in her room, crying herself to sleep. Later that night, in a hazy dream, a powerful heretic witch approaches her in the dream and offers her a way to unite with her supposed dead lover, the male lead again. She gives her a potion, which was said that it would revive him from the dead if she drank it. The female lead drinks the potion but little did she know that it was poison and she dies minutes later. Her mother and father rush in only to see their daughter dead. The claim it was the male lead who did it to strike back at the house who branded him a heretic.

Part 3: With most of Ishgard turned against him and his few other friends who are still reluctant to help him, the male lead seeks guidance from the temple cleric who then opens a chest in the room the male lead was staying in and gives him a sword. The cleric begins to tell a story about long ago, when he was a young man like the male lead. He was brash, young and headstrong knight who faced every waking day with the courage of a titan. He gave up that life though because he found greater joy in helping others via non-violent means but he tells the male lead that "A sword is only as strong as youre courage, ideals and desire." The cleric then tells the male lead about the death of the female lead and how the male lead was framed. He then tells him that soon a battle between the knights of Ishgard and the heretics would erupt and that if he wanted to see his love one last time before leaving Coerthas, now was the time to do it.

Intermission 2: (20 minutes)

Act 3: Part 1: A battle for Stone Vigil rages between the heretics and the knights. The male lead aids and saves his friend during the battle. In exchange, he lets him pass deeper and closer to Ishgard to find the family ancestral burial chamber of the female leads family.

Part 2: Betwen the Stone Vigil and the valley leading to Ishgard, a battle rages between the knights under the command of the male leads last friend and the heretics lead by the Heretic witch. The battle rages, many people on both sides were slain and the male leads best friend is slain. The male lead strikes down the witch in anger and pushes forward to the ancestral tomb in Ishgard.

Part 3: The male lead finally arrives to the ancestral tomb where he meet's the second brother and a few knights under his command guarding the tomb of his fallen sister. They raise arms against the male lead but the male lead strikes them all down and kills the female leads second brother by driving his blade through his heart. He enters the tomb. Lost by the death of his friends and the loss of his love, the female lead, he drives his blade into his heart, killing himself in grief.

Final Act: After all the fighting is over, the two family's come together, realizing after evidence was brought to light that it was indeed the first brother who tried to kill the male lead first that their blind hatred for each other cost them so much. They vowed to never again hate, say anything bad about each other or doubt the other house as many knights and young men and women died because of it.
