Personally, I'm all for romance but it all seems so trite sometimes. Also I don't appreciate the pressure to experience some sort of perfect "fairy tail romance".Â
Admittedly I'm not very experienced with these things, but I think there can be romance found everyday between two people. It's the little things that matter ultimately, but again that's just my opinion. True romance is a luxury that K'oda can't afford. That can be understandably confusing and is quite contradictory to some people, seeing as companionship and romance are rather large facets of K'oda's trade. But all one needs to do is look closer to see that the romance K'oda creates isn't real. Or rather, it isn't genuine. It's like a beautiful sculpture made of ice; alluring, even enchanting but ultimately cold and temporary. Eventually the spell melts away and then there is no hiding from the truth. In the bright light of day, he is alone. Deep in his heart he holds out hope, but in the forefront of his mind he knows not to give in to such fantasies. He's no fool, and won't delude himself. There is no room for such pleasures in his life. |

My characters almost always reflect some part of me. Relationship-wise, I play the love game like I play it in real life. I put my hand on your leg and then we kiss tend to have fitness-oriented characters who want other fitness-oriented SOs. In real life I get really put off when I go on a date and someone says, "Oh I hate the gym. I don't need to go." I guess if you are looking at Anime tropes (I feel like this is the audience to reference anime), the Uke/Seme relationship is the last thing I am going to be comfortable with RPing. From my experience it isn't a realistic relationship dynamic. I want an equal or greater in a relationship, so my characters always seek that in RP.
My characters (like myself) are usually not terribly passionate about many things, but I've always been drawn to pairing my characters with people who ARE heavily motivated. I like mixing people who seem similar on the surface but are opposites at their core. I definitely never ever feel okay with interspecies RP and being the lore snob I am, I quietly look down my long, elitist nose at people that do. Ew. I've never had issues so far with people blending IC with OOC and having the mythical "I think I love you OOC" syndrome, but I'm told the way I put myself in my characters is a potentially slippery slope. And that would end badly because I'm not a nice person in real life. I throw as much shade as I can muster. |

Heh I dont mind Romance, though I admit I sometimes go looking and screw up royally. So I should probably be thankful that only one my characters is in one. And even then, she's still sort of ass to him, and vice versa. The banter...never stops. Though that doesn't mean they dont have their tender non-asshole sweet moments. Ot happens.
Though my number one rule bout it is 'plz, no ooc bleeding' . Sometimes people don't care that you're on the other end of the planet....or drop it like its hot when they find out. Dun matter to em if the break even made a lick of sense and/or smelled of some serious deus ex machina. /huh |

My favorite type of romance story (to write) is the kind that leaves everyone involved emotionally crippled. ;D

I am an absolute sucker for the enemies-turned-sweethearts kind of romance. All that animosity, rivalry, whatever slowly simmering away into something that should have been impossible gives me all kinds of life. I love complications and challenges and seeing relationships tested in all kinds of ways, and the lengths one or both/all partners will go to to either see it sink or swim. Bonus points if involved parties are horrible messes even without the other being there to muck things up more.
I also have a soft spot for sweetness and fluff, but... naw! Perfect cute romances might be cute to watch but not so fun to play in my opinion. |

I like it 164% ambiguous. It's energizing to sustain the tension and not know where one stands... sometimes for ages it seems. I'm also a fan of forbidden and rivalmance. Gotta have some spice.
OOC-wise, my partner and I just romance each other. We fall for each other anew with each new game and faces. Keeps the flame going. |

I like messy, complicated, and/or slow-burn romances ICly. Sweet and fluffy really isn't my thing. I want the progress of any romantic relationship to be natural and true to the characters' personalities. So much depends on the person playing the other character - the quality of their writing, their ability to contribute to the story in interesting ways, and perhaps most importantly, their maturity level. If done right, a romantic storyline can offer a lot of opportunities for character development, which is what I live for as an RPer. Done wrong, it can either become boring or turn into a massive source of stress.
OOCly, I'm on an extended break from romance. It's too exhausting. Michaux Vidal - Oyuna Qestir - Tatsu Kaisuri
Arnvi Sunblade - Noriyasu Kuroda - Lucien Lemaire - Bren'li Arhys

Depends on the character but honestly I like all kinds. Fluff, weird friends that are actually lovers, secret and passionate. As long as it's consensual I'll probably write it. I also tend to play as gay or bisexual men, so generally speaking I play M// romance.
I only write romance with people I know though. I was friends with Jade's husband's mun for a while until we started RPing together as weird husbands. |

I have a couple that clash but get along more often than not, a couple that just do not work together but manage to somehow find a way to, and a couple that are absolutely sweet and lovey on one another. Of them all, the last couple is the least enjoyable. It's not that I don't like them; I really do! It's just that they don't find themselves really spurring on much RP because they just.. well. Get along. I also have another couple that are enemies-turned-sweethearts, and it's pretty entertaining. |

Best romantic storyline I ever played was two people dedicated to opposing deities, one attempted to seduce the other to ruin her connection with her deity, but ended up falling for her instead (all the while she had no idea who he really was). Â When she found out, tho, that's when the fun began.
One Chaotic Evil, the other Neutral Good, neither willing to compromise on their beliefs, both head over heels for the other, each one trying to pull the other to their way of thinking. Â Meanwhile, people on the outside (who had no idea of what was actually going on) assumed that she'd fallen, that she was evil, that she was protecting evil people, that she was no longer receiving the blessing of her deity. Â Apparently they were petitioning the DMs to get involved (not knowing they already were from nearly the beginning). At one point, the damn Harpers attacked her, because you can't love someone who is evil without being evil yourself (and doing evil things!). I almost managed to convert him. Â Came so. Â Damn. Â Close. It was awesome. Â I'd give my right arm for another shot at a storyline like that. |

I remember my favorite romance I ever did was during D&D. I'd given up a character to help raise the tension of a huge quest (after talking with the DM... He and I worked together) and got another at the same level, locked away in the dungeon. The evil group that they were fighting against (and trying to run from at the time!) had locked someone up in the prison. A black-skinned Tiefling. For all intents and purposes, he literally looked like a demon.
It was revealed that he was an assassin, a rogue completely specialized on KILLING, as opposed to burglaring. We already had a rogue in the party, and after they sprung the assassin out (to help guide them out of the lair), they were feeling a bit replaced/vulnerable, and started trying to show off that they were better. He never killed, or tried very hard not to kill, and my rogue reveled in it. I remember, everyone else had gone to bed for the night, and we were just staying up RPing (and would relate to the DM what happened later), basically sitting around the campfire during first watch. And finally the other rogue (a half elf, by the by) turned to my Tiefling and went "What do you feel when you kill? You're a monster, why should I believe anything else?" "Picture a night. The moon peeking out from amidst the clouds. A cold, winter's night, where each breath you take sears your lungs. Every movement you make you're keenly aware of. Everything in perfect clarity. Then, the touch of a lover, embracing you. In this moment, the world falls away around you, until there is only you, and them. You stare into each other's eyes, knowing that nothing else matters, that nothing in the world has been as important as this moment. For this is the moment you die. Even as you feel the blade, you feel the warmth of their skin, see the mist of their breath. They hold you, support you, and lie you down. And as the world narrows, falls away, they are the ones to deliver you. In this moment, there is no greater intimacy. You ask what I feel, when I kill? Everything. Hope, despair, love, hate. In this moment, I die too. I die with my prey, and am reborn each day. I have known intimacy on a level so profound, that nothing else touches onto it." My assassin became obsessed with bringing this other rogue around to see his point of view, and somewhere along the line, they became lovers. Rivals, yes, and lovers. They hated each other, tried to change the other, but they were drawn to each other like magnets, unable to resist the call of the other. This other player did tons of art for them, most of it modern takes on the couple, but it really shows how they often ended up! |
