I never said anything about a master in my OP, that was your point. My point was around openly declaring yourself a ninja, or rather not doing this. I don't care if people have a master or not, or even a soul crystal or not. For me it just seems to spoil the mystique if there is no mystery.
Though I tend to see the classes as stereotypical archetypes and in RP we are free to blend in our own story and take on that. Though I accept some take the full rigidity of the game, I see it more as a loose framework that creates a common setting.
