Hi Zhu I RP Alakhai Qalli and was one of the organisers for this so let me answer your concerns thusly:
Characters involved have been around a while - I am sure that some of the participants and spectators have Eorzean friends but that was actually the point of this event - to foster foreign relations by sharing a Xaela pasttime and significant cultural event with outsider friends amongst the PCs present. I don't think it matters if the vast majority of the Steppe's residents would shake their heads at such tomfoolery because it's a player led event for players.
Loser's bracket was created on the fly because we had an uneven amount of people wanted to play and it was OOCly unfair to have people just skip rounds. I don't think it's very xaela to just throw someone into a final when the other person had to take on extra fights to be honest. There's been literally no talk of us hosting a fully fledged Nadaam so I'm not sure where this idea has come from. But regardless, as most tribes have two sentences worth of lore any such claims are purely headcanon and people can do that however they want. In the case of this event, the most important thing WAS including other people and I'm glad that we had an excellent mix of xaela and not.
Again, reiterating, the entire point of the event was to foster outside friendships and it not be race-specific.

The MSQ really presses on the fact that Xaela tribes (especially thoss that care of tradition) do not trust outsiders very much and a whole plotline is dedicated to earn that trust.
