A thin, lithe Elezen woman sits tall in the chair across from the interviewer, one long leg crossed over the other. She does not look impressed, fingers folded in her lap neatly. As she answers questions, she looks forward with a sharp gaze.

“I was born Deirdre Ta’ea.â€
2.Where and when were you born?
“Deep in the mountains of The Garlean Empire, a small village that no longer stands. My Nameday is the Third Sun of the First Umbral Moon, the cycle 1549.â€

“Nichiel and Raien Ta’ea. Nichiel, my father, was a smith… Raien, my mother, never worked a sun in her life. Both are gone from this world.â€
4.Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?
Before answering she glances away and swallows hard. “ I have a brother not of my kin, but he lived with my parents before I was born, so it was as if he was. His name is Bancroft Gairn, I do not know where he is now…â€
5.Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.
Looking back she retains her cool expression again, uncrossing her legs and re-crossing them the other way. “I have no home.â€
6.What is your occupation?
“As of this moment, it is that which provides me gil. There is no title to such.â€

“I have belonged to the lower class all of my life.â€

The Elezen raises and elegant azure brow, smirking slightly. “I have none of these things.â€

“I can use both hands, but I prefer to ink parchment with my right.â€
11. What does your voice sound like?
“How odd of a question, can you not hear it? Smooth… I have been told I have an accent, I speak my words more particularly than others.â€
12. What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?
She waves her hand dismissively. “This is a foolish question, move on.â€
13. What do you have in your pockets?
Looking to her side the Elezen digs through her belted pouch and places on the table a whetstone, a small blue crystal, a few pieces of gil, a small roll of gauze and two vials; one of blue liquid, the other clear.
14. Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?
She speaks while repacking the pouch at her side. “I am never unarmed, I am told that is strange. I dislike the heat immensely, terribly uncomfortable. My lip, yes, I bite it often… bothersome.â€
Part 2: Growing Up
15. How would you describe your childhood in general?
She smiles, remembering fondly. “I had a very good childhood, I was a very happy girl surrounded by my kin.â€
16. What is your earliest memory?
“Sleeping next to my brother… I remember it vividly, he had his eyes closed, black hair in disarray. His ears twitched slightly, alert even though he was so far in to slumber. I remember the fresh smell of him and the feel of his hands…â€

“Little, I took a cycle or two of classes mandatory before I was to be married. To learn to speak and write like a lady, those sorts of things.â€
18. Did you enjoy school?
“At the time? No. I wanted to be out playing with my brother and the other boys, or with my father.â€

“I learnt to cook and clean on my own, my father taught me to ride. Killing, torturing, coercion, weapons skill, hunting, tracking… all of that is the training I received from the Empire.â€

“Two I suppose, my father and brother. Very few others have influenced me as much as they did.â€
21. While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?
“The only one I did not get along with was my mother. She did not like me either. She was a coward.â€

Tapping her chin slightly the woman thinks for a tick. “A dancer, I suppose.â€

“Climbing trees, riding, running… all sorts of things.†Remembering something she leans forward. “I used to walk along the tops of the wooden fences, you know the posts? Yes from one to the next, balancing. I enjoyed that.â€

“I spent more time with the boys than the girls. The boys liked me well enough, we were all friends… many of the names I have forgotten. I recall each face though…†She smiles sadly.

“Twelve no, I have not been such for over seventeen cycles. Cade was his name, a Highlander, travelled through our village a few times each cycle… I think he was… twenty and seven? I snuck out from bed and went in to the woods with him. Knowing all I do now, there is regret.
