Covered in soot, sweat, and machine grease, a rather haggard looking highlander...or...boxy midlander. It was hard to tell, takes measure of the interviewer.
Part 1: The Basics
1.What is your full name?
Isaac Jacobi. Why, who's askin' about?
2.Where and when were you born?
Ul'Dah. Low income wards. 32nd day of the 4th Astral Moon.
3.Who are/were your parents? (Know their names, occupations, personalities, etc.)
Rachel Jacobi is my mother. My father went by Sylas. The latter I never knew, as he was not the sort to do things like "raise children" or "care for a family." My mother provided for us. Worked as an Alchemist. Unfriendly woman. Fair, though. Not...not in complexion. She was just, I suppose one might say.
4.Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?
He grits his teeth, obviously choking something back. Indeed. Two. I happen to be the oldest of three. The middle Jacobi brother is named Samuel, and there is not enough time in the world for me to list the myriad of reasons that he should be shot, stabbed, beaten, drowned, drawn, quartered, burnt, and scattered to the sea. The youngest is Adam. Mute. Lives at one of the Ossuaries, I forget which.
5.Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.
Currently? In a tent on the Lominsan isles. There's little to it. It's beige? Sits in a clearing.
My crew takes up residence in this clearing as well. Beatric Reid, and Castus Allard. Registered members of a crew in the employ of the Thalassocracy, I assure you.
6.What is your occupation?
Err...I suppose you might say "Brigand", but you'd only be half correct. I take engineering contracts when available. Ships. City blocks. Arms and armor.
7.Give a full physical description of yourself. You might want to consider factors such as: height, weight, race, hair and eye color, style of dress, and any tattoos, scars, or distinguishing marks.
Mate, I am sitting right here. D'you really...
Oi, fine: Hyur. Male. 32 cycles. Five fulms, Eleven ilms, approximately 190-some ponze. Hair's dark, but you can't tell, it being shaved as close as it is. Eyes are grey, the scar on my eye isn't as awful as you might imagine. Did it to myself when I was younger. Snapped a bit of iron, and it came back on me. Err...been told my nose is prominent...did recently wake up after a "celebration" of my not being dead with a new bit of ink, but these are the hazards of living in Limsa Lominsa. Haven't got a look at it yet.
8.To which social class do you belong?
None of them, frankly. Most want little to do with me and mine.
9.Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?
Do not get me started on my allergies, mate. Pollen, and bloody dust. Can't use my left nostril all spring, and all bloody summer.
10. Are you right- or left-handed?
Neither. Both. Why?
11. What does your voice sound like?
Been told I've an odd accent for a slum-child (English), but that's something I picked up in an attempt to better fit at Academy. Stuck with me. Given that we're speaking, currently, I find this a bit odd, but I've been told that I take too much care with my pronunciation. I would posit that there is no such thing, but then again, the denizens of this city can barely read. Take that as you will.
12. What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?
What do I...how do you propose I keep track of that? D'you believe I might keep a diary of every utterance, during every single moment of every day? How else would I produce accurate results. S'bad science, chum, I'll tell you that.
13. What do you have in your pockets?
Rifles through his pockets Err...let us have a look...pliers, cleaning rods, cleaning picks, collapsible doming iron, doming hammer, cross-pein...unhooks a rather large, heavy belt with a myriad of pouches, loops, and assorted bits chasing hammer, whetstones, anti-voidsent explosives, anti-spoken explosives, anti-vilekin explosives, extra shot, blunderbuss, two pistols, only one a repeater (Don't bloody touch that, by the way, has a habit of going off all at once), powder, cleaning rags, two knives, one utility and one for defensive purposes and a few...crystal clusters for...what-have-you.
For the next few moments, Isaac obsessively cleans, sorts, and replaces his affects.
14. Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?
Continues to sort and clean.
I am told that I have a tendency toward obsessive behaviors.
Part 2: Growing Up
15. How would you describe your childhood in general?
I was hungry, filthy, and frequently engaged in stick fighting to protect my younger brothers from their mouths and bravado.
'Bout standard, I'd say.
16. What is your earliest memory?
My mother refusing service to a very tall man in fine clothes. He screamed, and stamped his feet. Threatened to have her gutted and tossed into the sands.
17. How much schooling have you had?
I attended Academy in Ul'Dah. Started at 6 cycles. Ended in it's entirety at 20 cycles. Too smart to ignore, is what my professors would say about me. Never set well with them that our name had no standing.
18. Did you enjoy school?
Immensely! Had I any say in it, I would have stayed my entire life.
19. Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?
Everywhere. Necessity tends to dictate what I do and do not learn these days.
20. While growing up, did you have any role models? If so, describe them.
No, mate.
21. While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?
Not famously. My mother and I fought. My brothers and I fought. Then I gave up.
22. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Inarticulate as it sounds: "Happy." Never did find out what I meant by that.
23. As a child, what were your favorite activities?
I used to climb a great many things. I would also play strategy games with the richer children when they came to visit the shop.
24. As a child, what kinds of personality traits did you display?
...I have no ruttin' idea, mate. That was a long time ago.
25. As a child, were you popular? Who were your friends, and what were they like?
Not in the slightest. No clout to our name meant no friends to speak of. I had my brothers, and I had my chores 'round our home.
26. When and with whom was your first kiss?
I was 12, and she was...well. She shouldn't have been speaking to me. She wore a red scarf, and told me her name was Scarlet. Thought she was awfully clever for it. I didn't agree, but I also did not argue with the quick peck on the lips she gave me to rouse her father's ire. Ran from one end of the city to the other.
27. Are you a virgin? If not, when and with whom did you lose your virginity?
No, and I respectfully decline to share any further.
28. If you are a supernatural being (i.e. mage, werewolf, vampire), tell the story of how you became what you are or first learned of your own abilities. If you are just a normal human, describe any influences in your past that led you to do the things you do today.
...What are you on about? Events lead to where they will, mate. You live. Keep living. That's the push of it all.
Part 3: Past Influences
29. What do you consider the most important event of your life so far?
There's no single crucible that forges a man, and so this question is invalid. All experiences contribute to the end result, and to weigh any more heavily than any other is intellectually irresponsible. I am not the irresponsible sort.
30. Who has had the most influence on you?
Luck, I suppose? I don't rightly know. There's no real way to quantify.
31. What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Waking up. Again, and again.
32. What is your greatest regret?
I've plenty of those. None of which do I plan to discuss.
33. What is the most evil thing you have ever done?
It's a matter of public record that I have been accused of High Treason, and it's no secret that I have sailed with the Bloody Executioners. I don't care to recount the events of the latter.
34. Do you have a criminal record of any kind?
Believe I just answered that.
35. When was the time you were the most frightened?
Likely when I'd been shot 'round about my heart. Puts a bit of a fright in a man.
36. What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?
I've been fished out of the sea, stark naked, on three occasions.
37. If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?
Becomes quiet, and still. Eerily still. Can't pick just one.
38. What is your best memory?
Smiles to himself. Never you mind.
39. What is your worst memory?
Oi, that's an easy one. Bleeding to death. 'Bout the worst feeling one can imagine, knowing that your very life force is leaking out of you.
Part 4: Beliefs And Opinions
40. Are you basically optimistic or pessimistic?
I am a realist. I deal in fact.
41. What is your greatest fear?
That I am right in my sneaking suspicions about this world, and it's people.
42. What are your religious views?
None, I suppose. I don't deny the possibility of the Twelve, or in fact any of the "gods" people claim to speak with and to. But, I've heard nothing from them, and don't expect I ever will.
43. What are your political views?
Ah. Now there's an interesting question. You see, I am a firm believer in the rule of the majority. I sincerely believe that a government should work for the good of the people it claims to protect and bring order to, not for itself and not for things material.
44. What are your views on sex?
Lovely, when there's a reason for it. Again, why?
45. Are you able to kill? Under what circumstances do you find killing to be acceptable or unacceptable?
Put it to you this way: You do not simply gain the right to say the things I say, go the places I go, or see the things I see due to a winning smile, and a pretty face. I do what I must to continue living.
46. In your opinion, what is the most evil thing any human being could do?
Hm. I suppose that would be to stamp out freedom of thought and will, frankly. Not that anyone truly possesses that power, but it doesn't stop Garlea from trying, does it?
47. Do you believe in the existence of soul mates and/or true love?
...We...might want to dig our heads out of the clouds.
48. What do you believe makes a successful life?
For myself, it is simply waking up the next morning. That means I've done something right.
49. How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings (i.e. do you hide your true self from others, and in what way)?
I've no secrets. Only standards.
50. Do you have any biases or prejudices?
Can't say I'm thrilled with Gridania. They did hunt me for a time, so that has soured my perception.
51. Is there anything you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstances? Why do you refuse to do it?
I am not willing to bend my knee to any flag, anywhere. A nation is a construct, and nothing more. Lives have value. Imaginary borders do not.
52. Who or what, if anything, would you die for (or otherwise go to extremes for)?
If at any point my life can be traded for lives of greater value, be that quantitative or qualitative, it becomes a simple choice to make.
Not that I intend to die, of course.
Part 5: Relationships With Others
53. In general, how do you treat others (politely, rudely, by keeping them at a distance, etc.)? Does your treatment of them change depending on how well you know them, and if so, how?
Every last individual gets his fair shake, mate. They're owed that much. The rest of our interactions are quite up to chance.
54. Who is the most important person in your life, and why?
My crew. We've faced...well, everything. The end of everything at that, together. That's a rare bond, one that survives an apocalypse.
55. Who is the person you respect the most, and why?
One person? I have a working understanding with Ms. Wamoto. Haven't seen her in a spell. My crew, however, I hold above all else. Two people in the world that I might trust to watch my back as a bed of knives gathers at it.
56. Who are your friends? Do you have a best friend? Describe these people.
Been going on about them for the past few moments.
57. Do you have a spouse or significant other? If so, describe this person.
I believe Ms. Reid is the closest I have at this moment. But, she's a touch off, and I am not entirely certain of our status.
58. Have you ever been in love? If so, describe what happened.
I suppose I have, but again, I've standards. The details are mine to keep.
59. What do you look for in a potential lover?
Nothing. Spend as much time predicting and analyzing as I do, and you tend to favor surprise.
60. How close are you to your family?
I write my mother, time and again. I visit my youngest brother, when I can find him. The second youngest should sincerely pray that we never cross paths again.
61. Have you started your own family? If so, describe them. If not, do you want to? Why or why not?
No. No time. No patience.
62. Who would you turn to if you were in desperate need of help?
Wouldn't have to turn. They're at my side, and I am at theirs. Outside of my crew? No one. Can't. They've their own burdens.
63. Do you trust anyone to protect you? Who, and why?
Again, gone on about them a fair amount.
64. If you died or went missing, who would miss you?
Likely Ms. Reid. Mr. Allard would never admit to it, but he would.
65. Who is the person you despise the most, and why?
His expression hardens. Let's keep this pleasant.
66. Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict?
I tend toward conflict. It's how we grow.
67. Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations?
I lead because I have to. Not entirely comfortable in the position, but here we are none the less.
68. Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not?
I try to avoid it, frankly. When I speak to crowds, they pretend they're deaf.
69. Do you care what others think of you?
Why would I?
Part 6: Likes And Dislikes
70. What is/are your favorite hobbies and pastimes?
I build. I create. I forge.
71. What is your most treasured possession?
You can't be serious. Why would I tell you that?
72. What is your favorite color?
Quite fond of red, I must say.
73. What is your favorite food?
I'm fond of duck.
74. What, if anything, do you like to read?
Anything. Everything.
75. What is your idea of good entertainment (consider music, movies, art, etc.)?
I tend toward music. Strings, in particular.
76. Do you smoke, drink, or use drugs? If so, why? Do you want to quit?
I've smoked a pipe in the past. I drink every now and again. Entirely recreational.
77. How do you spend a typical Saturday night?
The same as I might spend any other?
78. What makes you laugh?
Quirks a brow and shakes his head. A myriad of things, why?
79. What, if anything, shocks or offends you?
Ignorance.
80. What would you do if you had insomnia and had to find something to do to amuse yourself?
Likely make something.
81. How do you deal with stress?
I invent. I practice.
82. Are you spontaneous, or do you always need to have a plan?
Plans fall apart. Best to have a series of failsafes, rather than a plan. If X, then Y. That sort of thing.
83. What are your pet peeves?
Improper grammar. Negligence. Laziness.
Part 7: Self Images And Etc.
84. Describe the routine of a normal day for you. How do you feel when this routine is disrupted?
Define "normal".
85. What is your greatest strength as a person?
My mind.
86. What is your greatest weakness?
My mind.
87. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Inhales slowly Hm...Suppose I might want my eyebrows back. Burnt off during an explosion.
88. Are you generally introverted or extroverted?
No real idea, no reliable data, no answer.
89. Are you generally organized or messy?
...Come now.
90. Name three things you consider yourself to be very good at, and three things you consider yourself to be very bad at.
I am an excellent engineer, fabricator, and survivor, if I do say so myself. Not quite as good with interpersonal relationships, dancing, or drawing, though.
91. Do you like yourself?
I wouldn't say that I'm a proponent of who I am these days, but then again, who is?
92. What are your reasons for being an adventurer (or doing the strange and heroic things that RPG characters do)? Are your real reasons for doing this different than the ones you tell people in public? (If so, detail both sets of reasons…)
A series of stupid decisions, circumstance, and eh...well. We'll forget about that last bit.
93. What goal do you most want to accomplish in your lifetime?
I've several. When they've been accomplished, you'll know.
94. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
No idea. Quite excited to find out, though.
95. If you could choose, how would you want to die?
Old, and in my sleep.
96. If you knew you were going to die in 24 hours, name three things you would do in the time you had left.
Offer my goodbyes, and leave a great, smoking crater in the closest Imperial holding. Haven't got a third.
97. What is the one thing for which you would most like to be remembered after your death?
Frankly, I'm hoping to be forgotten, thank you.
98. What three words best describe your personality?
You can't qualify a man in three words, mate. You ignore far too many pieces of the total picture. Again, irresponsible.
99. What three words would others probably use to describe you?
Depends on who you might ask. I've heard "Murderer" a few times. "Monster" time and again. "Reliable" at least once. Rather like that one.
100. If you could, what advice would you, the player, give to your character? (You might even want to speak as if he or she were sitting right here in front of you, and use proper tone so he or she might heed your advice…)
Deep breaths, man. You can do this.
Covered in soot, sweat, and machine grease, a rather haggard looking highlander...or...boxy midlander. It was hard to tell, takes measure of the interviewer.

His expression hardens. Let's keep this pleasant.
66. Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict?
I tend toward conflict. It's how we grow.

Anything. Everything.

Likely make something.
81. How do you deal with stress?
I invent. I practice.
82. Are you spontaneous, or do you always need to have a plan?
Plans fall apart. Best to have a series of failsafes, rather than a plan. If X, then Y. That sort of thing.
83. What are your pet peeves?
Improper grammar. Negligence. Laziness.
Part 7: Self Images And Etc.

93. What goal do you most want to accomplish in your lifetime?
I've several. When they've been accomplished, you'll know.
