This was a really fun experiment!

Tyriont Gaidal
1.What is your full name?
"Captain Tyriont Gaidal, pirate extraordinaire and leader of the Phoenix Pirates. Â Widely regarded as the most dashingly handsome rogue in all of La Noscea."
2.Where and when were you born?
"I was born in Limsa Lominsa. Â As for when...well, that would give away part of the mystery now, wouldn't it?"
3.Who are/were your parents? (Know their names, occupations, personalities, etc.)
"My Father is Donovaine Gaidal, a travelling troubadour. Â My Mother is a scholar from Ul'Dah, Mirielle Reinard. Â They met while Dad was passing through and he won her over with the wit, charm, good looks and general overwhelming charisma that he passed on to his son." Â
4.Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?
"No siblings, but I do have a cousin on my Mother's side - Croix. Â He serves as the First Mate on my ship and I'll freely admit that I'd be lost without him. Â He has a much better head for the details than I do."
5.Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.
"Wherever the wind takes me, love. Â We have a few safehouses in Limsa though, which is also where I keep my personal home. Â More times than not though, I'm on board the Phoenix Flame along with the rest of the crew. Â You'll meet them soon enough if you stick around...for now though, take a look over by the bad there. Â The mass of muscle making that poor stool earn its keep and downing whiskey like water? Â That's my Quartermaster and oldest friend, Wandering Lion. Â Never a dull moment with him around, partly since he's so bloody loud."
6.What is your occupation?
"Why, pirate of course! Â I should be clear though - we're picky about our targets. Â Only steal from those who can afford it or deserve the loss. Â We're bloody generous with the poor folks around Limsa too. Â We might not be the most successful crew around, but we've got the love of the people."
7.Write a full physical description of yourself. You might want to consider factors such as: height, weight, race, hair and eye color, style of dress, and any tattoos, scars, or distinguishing marks.
"Well, I assume you want something more than astonishingly handsome? Â Pretty average height for an Elezen. Â Shoulder-length dark hair, blue eyes. Â As you can see, I have the tanned, toned physique of someone who spends a lot of time at sea. Â Oh, it's alright. Â Feel free to look, I understand. Â I prefer loose-fitting shirts, something that lets me feel the breeze. Â I've got more than my share of scars, but not a lot in very visible places...maybe you'll get to see those as the evening goes on, eh? Â I also wear an eyepatch fairly often. Â Not that I need it, I just like the way it looks. Â Besides, gives me an edge in a fight if people think I can't see out of that eye."
8.To which social class do you belong?
"Let's see..."scum of the earth", "dirty pirate rat" and "worthless thief" are some of the more common ones I've been stuck with. Â No time for the concerns of nobles, not me. Â Well...unless I've blagged my way into a party and I'm flirting with those high class types while lifting their necklaces."
9.Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?
"I'm completely disease free, I assure you. Â Why, have you heard something?"
10. Are you right- or left-handed?
"Right-handed."
11. What does your voice sound like?
"Like smooth caramel for your ears, love. Â Charming, well-spoken for a pirate...although thinking about it, I'm not sure if that one was meant to be a compliment." Â
12. What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?
"Bloody, by the Twelve, Of course I can make that jump. Â Another pretty common one is 'I have a foot long tongue and can breathe through my ears'. Â If you know what I mean."
13. What do you have in your pockets?
"Right now? Â Compass, gil for drinks and a scrap of paper to write down names and room numbers. Â That's about it, I prefer to travel light for the most part."
14. Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?
"According to my crew, I'm a bit -too- fond of the drink and far too much a sucker for a pretty face. Â I've also got a frustrating tendency to, ah...fall off things. Â My balance isn't the best."
Part 2: Growing Up
15. How would you describe your childhood in general?
"It's not too descriptive, but happy? Â We traveled a lot, what with Dad being a bard and Mum always wanting to dash off to find some new rumored artifact. Â Wouldn't have changed it for the world, I got to meet no end of people. Â Has meant I'm not too happy settling in one place for long though."
16. What is your earliest memory?
"Music. Â I don't remember much about where I heard it, but I remember the sound of Dad's fiddle. Â That's really all I need."
17. How much schooling have you had?
"Official schooling? Â None. Â We moved around too much. Â But Mum taught me to read and write, while Dad taught me music, poetry and song. Â Everything else I picked up as life went on."
18. Did you enjoy school?
"Heh, in so far as it can be called school I suppose."
19. Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?
"Well, like I said, my musical ability came from Dad. Â My other abilities were learned from necessity and finding mentors. Â I learned basic carpentry while we were in Gridania, which comes in handy for ship repairs. Â Sewing in Ul'Dah, for repairing sails...things like that. Â I'll admit, I'm an amateur at most of it - that's why I have crewmembers who handle it properly. Â But I like to learn a little of everything. Â Keeps me sharp."
20. While growing up, did you have any role models? If so, describe them.
"Mainly my Dad. Â The way he could light up a room, his love of visiting new places...he's still an inspiration to this day."
21. While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?
"It was just the two of us, so pretty well. Â We were close-knit. Â Still are, really. Â I do still consider some of the other performers and scholars who traveled with us as family though. Â Some of them had kids who are in my crew now."
22. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
"An explorer. Â I really didn't care what I did as long as I wasn't tied in one place for too long."
23. As a child, what were your favorite activities?
"Music. Â I wanted to learn every single instrument I could get my grubby little hands on, even if I'm still terrible at more than a few of them. Â Beyond that, I loved sitting around a crowded pub while Dad performed, either reading through a book with my Mum or just watching the people."
24. As a child, what kinds of personality traits did you display?
"I was outgoing and curious. Â Wanted to explore every nook and cranny of everywhere we went. Â I'm sure I drove more than a few people we ran into nuts."
25. As a child, were you popular? Who were your friends, and what were they like?
"Yeah, I reckon so. Â Moving around so much I didn't get to make many fast friends but there were always a few I was sure to find whenever we were in a particular place. Â The two that really stick out I already told you about - Croix and Wandering Lion. Â Croix traveled with us along with my Aunt from time to time. Â Serious kid, grew up into a pretty serious man. Â Lion, he lived in Limsa and we passed through a lot. Â Me and him got into no end of trouble. Â I remember this one time, we found this merchant stall that sold...well, I'm in polite company so let's just call them "Ladies' underthings". Â They had this area out back where the customers could try things on, right? Â We figured out a way to sneak in and swipe their clothes so they'd have to chase us around, everything on display. Â By the Twelve, we got our hides handed to us for that one. Â 'course, when Dad found out he took me and bought me a pie in celebration..."
26. When and with whom was your first kiss?
"It sounds bad, but I really don't remember her name. Â Remember the kiss though. Â I was fourteen, we were in Gridania and I met this pretty little Hyur girl during one of Dad's performances. Â Worked my magic and we were back behind the chocobo stables before too long. Â Never did see her again afterwards...always wondered what happened to her."
27. Are you a virgin? If not, when and with whom did you lose your virginity?
Ty wipes tears from his eyes, still chuckling. Â "Oh, I'm sorry...were you serious? Â Of course I'm not. Â As for when and who...well, I might be a rogue but I'm still a gentleman in some ways and I wouldn't kiss and tell. Â All I'll say is that I was sixteen and everyone's first time should be with someone that...enthusiastic."
28. If you are a supernatural being (i.e. mage, werewolf, vampire), tell the story of how you became what you are or first learned of your own abilities. If you are just a normal human, describe any influences in your past that led you to do the things you do today.
"We've already talked about how my parents influenced me. Â But I'm sure by now you're wondering why I became a pirate. Â I was inspired by the lifestyle - sailing the wide open seas, that's the freedom I was looking for. Â Not bound to any nation, no cares but the safety and happiness of my crew. Â I've got the greatest family in all of Eorzea now."
Part 3: Past Influences
29. What do you consider the most important event of your life so far?
"Obtaining the Phoenix Flame, by far. Â What good is a pirate without a ship, after all? Â How I came by it, that's a story for another time".
30. Who has had the most influence on you?
"Definitely my Dad. Â He instilled in me a love of music, fine liquor and finer women."
31. What do you consider your greatest achievement?
"It sorta ties in with your earlier question, but building the Phoenix Pirates. Â I couldn't be prouder of my crew and wouldn't sail with anyone else".
32. What is your greatest regret?
"I made a terrible mistake once in bringing the wrong person into my crew. Â Twisted kind of guy...he's obsessed with finding eternal life through alchemy. Â Wouldn't be a bad thing but his methods are...well, less said about him the better. Â He's still around somewhere, probably in Ul'dah."
33. What is the most evil thing you have ever done?
"Depends on your definition of evil, doesn't it? Â I'm sure the people I've stolen from think I'm the worst thing since the Calamity...but those without a roof over their head or food in their bellies might beg to differ".
34. Do you have a criminal record of any kind?
"Have you not been paying attention? Â Pirate! Â I understand, though. Â I'm quite distracting."
35. When was the time you were the most frightened?
"When I realized what Denavial - that's the guy I mentioned earlier - was capable of. Â I saw some of the things on his shelf in his private...laboratory, I guess you'd call it? Â When I realized what was in my crew, I was sick to my stomach and terrified for my crew's safety".
36. What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?
"Waking up passed out drunk, stark-bollock naked in front of the Coral Tower. Â Still no clue how I wound up there, or where my clothes went".
37. If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?
"I hate to be repetitive, but meeting Denavial.  If I could avoid having ever brought him into our lives, we'd all be better off".
38. What is your best memory?
"The first time we ever left port aboard the Flame. Â Knowing that we'd made it, that the seas were ours for the taking...there's no feeling like it."
39. What is your worst memory?
"Pretty much covered that one under biggest regret, didn't we now?"
Part 4: Beliefs And Opinions
40. Are you basically optimistic or pessimistic?
"Eternal optimist, much as Croix wishes I was more realistic sometimes. Â I'll keep bashing my head against something until I break through. Â That said, is a cynical optimist a thing? Â Because I'm a right snarky git."
41. What is your greatest fear?
"Being stuck in one place for the rest of my life. Â Never able to leave, never able to see anything new...that's the worst thing I can think of."
42. What are your religious views?
"I leave the Gods alone, they leave me alone. Â I'm usually careful to pay respects to Llmlayen before setting sail though."
43. What are your political views?
"Politics is for people with too much damn time and money on their hands. Â My only interest is making sure I know which laws I'm breaking and what will happen if I get caught".
44. What are your views on sex?
"Sex is fantastic! Â In all seriousness though, it's the best way to make a connection with someone. Â As long as everyone understands what the situation is, I say have fun! Â There's way too much in this world to not sample as much of it as possible."
45. Are you able to kill? Under what circumstances do you find killing to be acceptable or unacceptable?
"Absolutely, but only when I need to. Â You harm my crew, I end you. Â That's all there is to it."
46. In your opinion, what is the most evil thing any human being could do?
"Restrict someone's freedom just for the hell of it. Â Don't get me wrong, I reckon there's some who need to be kept away from the rest of the world...but just kill 'em. Â Don't keep them in some little cell for the rest of their lives. Â End it quick, that's what I say."
47. Do you believe in the existence of soul mates and/or true love?
"Nice idea, but no. Â Way too many people in the world to have just one person you're meant to be with. Â Like I said, variety is the way of life! Â Love is definitely real though, but the idea that you can only feel it for one person is crazy."
48. What do you believe makes a successful life?
"Depends on how you define success. Â Knowledge? Â Money? Â Power? Â For me, it's freedom. Â As long as you can go where you want, when you want then what else do you need?"
49. How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings (i.e. do you hide your true self from others, and in what way)?
"Usually pretty honest, unless I'm needing to run a con on someone. Â But that's pretty rare. Â I'm a heart on my sleeve type of guy. Â Too much effort to be held back, aye?"
50. Do you have any biases or prejudices?
"None that are undeserved. Â If you're rich and you got there on the backs of others who are rotting in the gutters while you're sipping fancy, poncey wine? Â Screw you."
51. Is there anything you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstances? Why do you refuse to do it?
"Yeah, I won't ever steal from someone who can't afford it. Â The poor go through enough already, they don't need someone nicking what little they have left."
52. Who or what, if anything, would you die for (or otherwise go to extremes for)?
"My crew. Â Without them, I'm nothing. Â We live and die for each other, it's the only way to stay alive out there."
Part 5: Relationships With Others
53. In general, how do you treat others (politely, rudely, by keeping them at a distance, etc.)? Does your treatment of them change depending on how well you know them, and if so, how?
"I like to think I'm friendly. Â It's one of the things I learnt from Dad. Â That said, being in my line of work there's a certain barrier you've got to keep up when first meeting people. Â The longer we know each other, the more that comes down".
54. Who is the most important person in your life, and why?
"No one person, but my entire crew. Â Already explained why...we're family."
55. Who is the person you respect the most, and why?
"Again, my crew. Â Each of them for different reasons, but still. Â Beyond that, my parents."
56. Who are your friends? Do you have a best friend? Describe these people.
"I'm sorry, I'm giving terribly boring answers. Â But again, my crew. Â It'd take forever to describe them, but we've got all kinds. Â Elezen, Hyur, Lalafell, Miqo'te, Roegadyn...tall, short, large, thin, loud, quiet...but as for my best friend, that's the guy I pointed you to earlier. Â Wandering Lion. Â Known each other since we were kids, my first crew member and my dearest friend."
57. Do you have a spouse or significant other? If so, describe this person.
"Gods, no."
58. Have you ever been in love? If so, describe what happened.
"Ah, well...that's a more interesting question, isn't it? Â Several times, as it happens. Â As for what happened, it's the same story each time usually. Â I'm never in once place for long, so we meet up when I'm in town and we cross paths...but in the end, they look for someone more stable. Â But there's never hard feelings and I'm always happy to help any of them in any way I can."
59. What do you look for in a potential lover?
"First off, they have to understand what I am. Â I'm not settling down and starting a family. Â Second, is there something new they can teach me - or that I can teach them? Â That's really all there needs to be, other than the obvious parts like attraction."
60. How close are you to your family?
"Very close. Â They still travel and I try to cross paths as often as possible. Â We have a dedicated linkshell to stay in touch."
61. Have you started your own family? If so, describe them. If not, do you want to? Why or why not?
"Absolutely not. Â My lifestyle isn't one a kid should be involved in, ever."
62. Who would you turn to if you were in desperate need of help?
"Again, my crew. Â Failing that, assuming we're -all- in desperate need of help then I have allies in each city I can turn to in a time of need. Â People who owe favors, that kind of thing."
63. Do you trust anyone to protect you? Who, and why?
"Crew. Â Next."
64. If you died or went missing, who would miss you?
"You're not really getting this, are you? Â Crew. Â Next!"
65. Who is the person you despise the most, and why?
"Denavial. Â He betrayed my trust, which is something I'll never forgive."
66. Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict?
"Depends on the person, but I do find myself in arguments a fair bit. Â I'm not often willing to back down, is the problem. Â Bit of a flaw perhaps, but I think it just shows conviction."
67. Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations?
"Being a Captain, I tend to find myself in those roles a lot. Â Comes naturally to me nowadays."
68. Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not?
"Love it, comes from growing up how I did.  I love a stage.  There's something about making a whole room of people smile, dance and sing that's incomparable to anything else."
69. Do you care what others think of you?
"Only my crew and my family. Â Everyone else be damned."
Part 6: Likes And Dislikes
70. What is/are your favorite hobbies and pastimes?
"Drinking! Â Especially in a place with plenty of pretty women. Â Beyond that, I love a good book, especially one I can learn something from. Â And while you might not think it based on what we've talked about so far, I'm not too bad at chess."
71. What is your most treasured possession?
"My fiddle. Â It was a gift from my parents when I turned twelve and I've kept it in shape ever since. Â Beyond the freedom that we talked about, I can't imagine life without music either."
72. What is your favorite color?
"I'm quite fond of red. Â A bold, striking color that really stands out. Â I think it suits me."
73. What is your favorite food?
"Fried fish is a particular favorite of mine. Â Beyond that, there are some really excellent curries around the Ul'Dah area."
74. What, if anything, do you like to read?
"Something informative, especially history books. Â If there's a book that discusses some legendary artifact that was lost, let me know and I'll set out to find the thing."
75. What is your idea of good entertainment (consider music, movies, art, etc.)?
"Good music with good people. Â Nothing brings people together like song and dance."
76. Do you smoke, drink, or use drugs? If so, why? Do you want to quit?
"Oh, frequently. Â I love a good rum, it's relaxing. Â I smoke as well, for much the same reasons. Â Life's far too short to not enjoy the finer things in it. Â The Calamity should have taught people that."
77. How do you spend a typical Saturday night?
"No such thing as a typical one, if I'm doing it right. Â That said, I'll often try to find a pub if it's a night I can expect a lot of people around."
78. What makes you laugh?
"I'm quite fond of physical comedy. Â If you ask me, everything can be made funnier by throwing a pie at someone."
79. What, if anything, shocks or offends you?
"We covered this a little earlier if I remember, but the way that the powerful stomp all over those they rely on. Â It disgusts me."
80. What would you do if you had insomnia and had to find something to do to amuse yourself?
"Drink until I pass out!"
81. How do you deal with stress?
"Drink until I pass out!"
82. Are you spontaneous, or do you always need to have a plan?
"Drink until I...oh, sorry. Â I got into a pattern there. Â Spontaneous, definitely. Â Which doesn't always work out...there's been a fair few times Croix has had to reel me back in and make me think things through before rushing off. Â He's great at that."
83. What are your pet peeves?
"A poorly maintained instrument drives me insane. Â Why someone wouldn't care for something that brings so much joy is beyond me."
Part 7: Self Images And Etc.
84. Describe the routine of a normal day for you. How do you feel when this routine is disrupted?
"Again, no such thing as a normal day - if I've slipped into one, anything that breaks that routine is welcomed with open arms."
85. What is your greatest strength as a person?
"Other than my wit, charm and general charisma? Â I have an ability to bring people together that's proved quite useful. Â I can get along with most people, as long as they're worth getting along with."
86. What is your greatest weakness?
"To hear Croix talk, pretty women. Â We've gotten into more than a few troubles because I was suckered in by a ravishing beauty who needed help."
87. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
"Nothing at all! Â I'm basically perfect."
88. Are you generally introverted or extroverted?
"I'd think that you can answer that yourself by now. Â Clearly an extrovert, I love an audience!"
89. Are you generally organized or messy?
"Organization takes far too much time. Â I'm more of a 'grab it and go' type of man."
90. Name three things you consider yourself to be very good at, and three things you consider yourself to be very bad at.
"Let's see...well, I'm an excellent fiddle player if I say so myself. Â I'm also a fairly decent cook. Â As for a third thing...look, it sounds self-absorbed and maybe it is, but I'm a fantastic lover. Â Sounds cliched, but it's true. Â As for bad...well, we spoke before about my balance being fairly terrible...I've dropped into the drink from the rigging more than once. Â And completely sober, before you say anything. Â I'm also a horrible artist, can't draw more than a stick figure and even then it looks more like a stick massacre. Â A third thing...well, I'm going to go back to being very bad at resisting a pretty face.
91. Do you like yourself?
"Of course, who wouldn't like me?"
92. What are your reasons for being an adventurer (or doing the strange and heroic things that RPG characters do)? Are your real reasons for doing this different than the ones you tell people in public? (If so, detail both sets of reasons…)
"Freedom. Â Exploring, finding lost treasures and helping, ah...'redistribute the wealth'. Â If I can leave the world a better place than I found it while having fun along the way, I've done myself proud."
93. What goal do you most want to accomplish in your lifetime?
"Simply to keep living the way I am now. Â That's all I want."
94. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
"Anywhere I've never been before."
95. If you could choose, how would you want to die?
"In such a way that future bards sing of it. Â Dying peacefully in bed sounds horribly boring."
96. If you knew you were going to die in 24 hours, name three things you would do in the time you had left.
"Make sure the crew was taken care of - they all know that if something happens to me, Croix takes over as captain. Â After that, see my parents and say my farewells. Â Lastly, find some suitably dramatic way to go out."
97. What is the one thing for which you would most like to be remembered after your death?
"A man who was never tied to one place, who helped improve the lives of the downtrodden where he went and one hell of a lover."
98. What three words best describe your personality?
"Let's see...charismatic, outgoing and charming."
99. What three words would others probably use to describe you?
"In honesty? Â Arrogant, silver-tongued pirate."
100. If you could, what advice would you, the player, give to your character? (You might even want to speak as if he or she were sitting right here in front of you, and use proper tone so he or she might heed your advice…)
Ty. Â Seriously, mate. Â STOP FALLING OFF THINGS, FOR THE LOVE OF...I swear I'm not doing it. Â I went the exact same path as the person before us and somehow you managed to dive off that cliff anyway. Â What the hell.
