Should be more like cents. The Japanese use Yen, which is similar to cents. You'll see something in the grocery store for 1000 Yen, which only sounds like a lot if you don't realize that it's about ten dollars. Personally I find our whole decimal system with currency quite bothersome (especially pennies-- pennies should be done away with altogether). But I'd sooner see us switch to metric.
The American currency system (I assume you're talking of the american currency, pennies and what not) is already a metric based.
Meters to dollars, Decimeters to dimes, all that business.
Actually I was talking about our units of measurement in weight, length, etc.
