A youthful-looking Miqo'te is seated on the lone, rickety looking chair in the one-room hovel. The home, so close to the docks, has all sorts of interesting smells and sounds about it. The girl is holding a sleeping Miqo'te child who appears less than one cycle of age and shares in her dark skin and pale blond hair. She moves fluidly to the floor when the interviewer arrives, wordlessly offering up her seat. She speaks very softly when questioned, so as not to wake the child.

Ask the girl some questions?
1.What is your full name?
"S'janna Rahz."
2.Where and when were you born?
"I'm not entirely sure where. My little tribe was pretty nomadic... for all I know, it could have been right here!"
3.Who are/were your parents?
"My mother is S'lanihn Vahri. We're not too close- for all that she ran off with a tia with delusions of grandeur, she's a pretty staunch traditionalist. My father was Rahz. I assume he was one of the nunhs of my mother's old tribe. I never had the chance to meet him, though, since S'khori Tia-and no, I won't call him nunh, he doesn't deserve it- convinced my mother and a few other women to run off with him while she was still carrying me. Funny how things work sometimes, isn't it?"
4.Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?
"I have an older sister who I love dearly, and two younger brothers who aren't nearly as awful as their father is. My sister's a skilled herbalist who's managed to keep our little tribe healthy through some pretty awful times, both with her herbs and her kind words for everyone. I wish I could be a bit more like her. She's also a wonderful mother to three adorable children. My two brothers are pretty young, but they were pretty well-behaved for the most part- except when they were in the same room as each other."
5.Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.
"It's a tiny little room in Linsa Lominsa, and it smells like the docks. Still, it's mine,
and that's got to be worth something, right? I share it with the most adorable little boy, S'anjha. S'anjha Tia, I suppose he should be, but if I have my say he'll never have to worry about that stuff."
6.What is your occupation?
"Little bit of everything, I guess. Work isn't always easy to come by, so I take what I can get. Mostly I do little 'mystic' things for people- read clouds, talk to spirits, and so on. A lot of it is bunk, or at least really
opento interpretation, but it makes people feel better, so... well, I'm not my sister, but like I said before, I do wish I could be more like her. Between that, and what little healing magic I know, well... I do what I can."
7.Writea full physical description of yourself. You might want to consider factors such as: height, weight, race, hair and eye color, style of dress, and any tattoos, scars, or distinguishing marks.
"I'm...hmm, well, about average height for a Miqo'te female, I suppose. I guess I'm a bit on the thin side- food's a bit scarce at times. I've got the same dark skin and pale blond hair as my mother and sister have. I guess if I had a few more proper meals I'd look quite a bit like them, especially my sister. My eyes, though, they're all my father's- dark blue, like the ocean. Which is funny, since I doubt he's ever seen
theocean. I wear, well, about what you'd expect from someone with my income- whatever I can get ahold of. Coarse linen frocks, and so on, though I still have my clothes from the tribe. I never wear them, though."
8.Towhich social class do you belong?
"Figuredthat'd be obvious by now. About as low as you can get without being on the streets. And even that's a near thing when things are particularly lean."
9.Doyou have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?
"I'm
allergic to my old tribe.
...thatwas a joke, lighten up a bit, yeah? I've never run into anything I'm allergic to, and I've never really been seriously sick. The usual childhood ailments, sure, but nothing, like persistent. I'm probably not the most physical Seeker of the Sun out there, but I don't think that really could be called a weakness exactly."
10.Are you right- or left-handed?
"Left-handed."
11.What does your voice sound like?
"Idon't know? I mean, I never really listen to myself talk. Normal, I guess? I mean, it's not like I took an arrow to the throat and can only growl and grumble or something."
12.What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?
"Well, there's 'May S'khori Tia die in a fire,' but I suppose that's not really what you meant?"
13.What do you have in your pockets?
"Let'ssee... a couple gil, a few lures- so I can maybe try my luck fishing from the docks later- and a needle and some thread. I'd promised Farina I'd come try to mend her son's shirt later."
14.Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?
-laughs-"Well, apaprently my most annoying habit is that I often have a crying child with me. I've also been told I have a penchant for losing track of time if I start looking out over the ocean. I can't help it... there's so much water!"
Part
2: Growing Up
15.How would you describe your childhood in general?
"Awful.
Well,no, I suppose that's a lie. Or at least me looking at it from where I stand now. It wasn't really that bad. There wasn't much to our little tribe so we all had to work that much harder to survive. There were a lot of children just a cycle or two younger than me, so I ended up with some playmates I could boss around, which was nice."
16.What is your earliest memory?
"Hm.I don't know if it's even a real memory or just something I made up, but one time when my mother had brought me out gathering with her- she used to do that a lot when I was little, since there wasn't really anyone else to look after me- I thought I saw a zuu flying way overhead. I tried to point it out to my mother, but she didn't see it. I still don't know if it was really there, to be honest."
17.How much schooling have you had?
"None.Well, nothing formal. Most of what I know I just picked up along the way. I can read now, though! That's something nice. Might not be necessary in my line of, uh, work, but it's something I'm proud of anyhow."
18.
Did you enjoy school?
"Well,I heard that it can be fun, but I've never actually met anyone with a formal education, so I couldn't say for sure. I've certainly never gone, so..."
19.Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?
"Sameway as everything else, really. Just picked it up as I went. Apparently that's kind of unusual, especially for the magic stuff, but I've always been a little bit, well, sensitive to that stuff. I did learn a lot about how to hunt and gather while I was with the tribe, but there's not much call to use those skills in a city. I suppose I could always venture out and put that stuff to use, but Anjha is still so little..."
20.While growing up, did you have any role models? If so, describe them.
"S'khoritaught me a lot- about how not to act. So did my mother. Don't get me wrong, I still love her, but... well. Enough of that. I know it sounds odd, considering I've never met him, but I like to think my father inspired me. Or at least, what I imagine him to be like."
21.While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?
"LikeI said before, I never knew my father. My mother and I had a strained relationship. I wasn't really happy with the tribe, nor my expected place in it, and sort of blamed- well, blame, since I still do- her for that. I was really close with my sister, though, and we spent a lot of time together, especially when she became a mother and I was helping her with her kids. I think I learned more from her than I ever did from our mother. I got along pretty well with my brothers, too, as long as they weren't in the same place as each other. I hated it when they fought though."
22.As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
"I...don't really know. I suppose I was always too busy to really daydream like that. I can't say I imagined I'd be where I am now, though, that's for sure."
23.As a child, what were your favorite activities?
"WhenI was younger, the whole tribe used to gather four times a cycle to give thanks to the Twelve for protecting us. It was the closest thing to a festival or party or whatever we would have, and I always loved it. We'd stopped doing that a few years before I left, though."
24.As a child, what kinds of personality traits did you display?
"Honestly?I was a bit of a brat. I argued with my mother quite often, and was a bit more spiritual than most of the rest of the tribe, so that set me apart too. I was also a bit bossy, since I was the oldest by almost a cycle of all the children close to my age."
25.As a child, were you popular? Who were your friends, and what were they like?
"Ilike to think I had a lot of friends, but that was mainly because there was a whole big group of us right in the same age, and I sort of took charge as the oldest. I was close with only a couple of them though."
26.
When and with whom was your first kiss?
"Iwon't share his name. It's the one thing of him I have left, and I'm jealously keeping it to myself. He was a boy in my tribe who I was very close with. I was twelve at the time. He was a tia and it caused a lot of problems."
27.Are you a virgin? If not, when and with whom did you lose your virginity?
"You'reawfully persistent with the personal questions, aren't you? I suppose I didn't say outright, but Anjha is my son, so... no. S'khori is his father. It's a very long story that I don't want to go into."
28.If you are a supernatural being (i.e. mage, werewolf, vampire), tell the story of how you became what you are or first learned of your own abilities. If you are just a normal human, describe any influences in your past that led you to do the things you do today.
"Iguess you could call me a mage, sort of. I don't know that that's really unusual though. I guess not a lot of Seekers pursue the magical arts though."
Part
3: Past Influences
29.What do you consider the most important event of your life so far?
"That'sa hard question to answer. There were so many pivotal things that happened in a short period of time, and all of them important, for good or ill. To be honest, the most important one happened while my mother was still carrying me, when she made the decision to follow an idiot tia who wanted to make his own tribe, all so he could be nunh."
30.Who has had the most influence on you?
"Anotherhard one to answer. There are so many people who have had strong influences on me, some good, some ill. Much as I hate to say it, for the sake of honesty, I'd have to say it was S'khori. I learned a lot of things from him, but the most important one was courage. Remember the boy I mentioned before, the tia who I'd kissed? He's the other one who influenced me a lot, but I didn't realize it until it was too late."
31.What do you consider your greatest achievement?
"Givingbirth to Anjha. Yes, I know, countless mothers have given birth before me, and countless more will after, but it's still the greatest moment of my life. It was also a very difficult birth. The midwife wasn't sure I'd make it."
32.What is your greatest regret?
"Listeningto my mother. Yes, I do mean that. I should have done as she did, rather than as she said, as the saying goes. It's a choice that will haunt me for the rest of my days."
33.What is the most evil thing you have ever done?
"Ignoringmy best friend. It sounds silly, but... if I had listened to him, he'd still be alive today, and while I might still be in a dingy, tiny little bedroom near the docks, I think my life would be so much better for it. And far more importantly, I wouldn't have lost my best friend."
34.Do you have a criminal record of any kind?
"No,not that I know of. Er, this is confidential, right? Right. Because I know I've pilfered a few small things here and there, but I don't really feel bad about that. We all do what we have to do to survive, right?"
35.
When was the time you were the most frightened?
"WhenS'khori killed my best friend. He... he had this look
inhis eyes, this horrible, evil look, and I just knew what was going to happen, and I was powerless to stop it."
36.What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?
"I...I don't want to answer this. I'm sorry, I know I promised I'd answer all your questions, but... this one... this one I can't."
37.If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?
"Iwould have listened to my friend instead of my mother, like I said before. He wanted me to run away from the tribe with him, but I was afraid to. Maybe it was because I saw how well that had worked out for my mother and the others, or maybe I was just being a coward. But if I had just done it..."
38.
What is your best memory?
-shesmiles fondly- "That first kiss. I knew it could get us into trouble, but I didn't care.I just felt so free, so daring. Whatever else might have come of it, I don't regret that in the slightest."
39.What is your worst memory?
"Youalready asked this one, and I said no. It's the same as the embarrassing one, and I will not share it."
Part4: Beliefs And Opinions
40.Are you basically optimistic or pessimistic?
"Doyou have children? Whenever I see Anjha's little face, I can't help but to smile, no matter how hard things are. He gives me hope."
41.What is your greatest fear?
"Thatsomehow, someway, I'll be forced to return to the tribe. To S'khori. I'd die first."
42.
What are your religious views?
"Irevere the Twelve, as do most, no?"
43.What are your political views?
"Idon't really think about politics too much. I don't have the time or the energy to waste on that stuff, but I suppose if I had a say in the matter, I'd get rid of the tia and nunh nonsense. It causes nothing but grief and heartache."
44.What are your views on sex?
"That'spretty personal, don't you think? Still, I guess there's little harm in telling. I don't plan on sharing a bed with anyone, at least, um, casually. And I don't know that I'm capable of falling in love with anyone enough to be intimate with them. And since I have no plans of joining my old tribe- or joining a different one- well, you have your answer, I suppose."
45.Are you able to kill? Under what circumstances do you find killing to be acceptable or unacceptable?
"Animals, yes, I have before and would be able to again. I did spend some of my later childhood as a hunter, after all. I've never killed a person before, and honestly I don't know if I could. Even one I really, really hated..."
46.In your opinion, what is the most evil thing any human being could do?
"...next
question."
47.Do you believe in the existence of soul mates and/or true love?
"Partof me wants to. But if it's true, then... I foolishly missed my chance. So part of me desperately wants to believe there's no such thing as soul mates and such. Maybe true love, but... I don't know. I really don't know."
48.What do you believe makes a successful life?
"If,when my time comes, I can look back and see more happiness than regrets, I'll have led a successful life. Whatever turns it might have taken."
49.How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings (i.e. do you hide your true self from others, and in what way)?
"Well,I guess it depends on who I'm speaking to, and what about. There's some things I don't care to talk about- obviously. And there's some things I'm quite happy to discuss. Of course, if I lose my temper, well... let's just say there's no secrets, then."
50.Do you have any biases or prejudices?
"Ithink everyone likes to tell themselves 'no, I'm not biased in any way,' but that's a load of chocobo dung. We all have our little prejudices, don't we? Honestly, I'm quite apt to think ill of anyone who calls himself a nunh, and likely to be a bit more kindly disposed to any fellow Seekers who've sought their own path away from their tribes. I also don't much like hyur men. They stare too much."
51.Is there anything you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstances? Why do you refuse to do it?
"Iwant to say yes, but I know there's nothing I won't do for my son, even if it's something awful."
52.Who or what, if anything, would you die for (or otherwise go to extremes for)?
"Youpretty much just asked me this, didn't you? Anjha, of course."
Part
5: Relationships With Others
53.In general, how do you treat others (politely, rudely, by keeping them at a distance, etc.)? Does your treatment of them change depending on how well you know them, and if so, how?
"Idon't let people get too close, but I always try to be nice, at least. I try to act in a way that, if I were to ever see my sister again, she could be proud of me. So even though I might not like people getting too close to me, I still try to be nice to them."
54.Who is the most important person in your life, and why?
"Anjha,of course. He's the sun of my life. See what I did there? Sorry, I know that was awful."
55.Who is the person you respect the most, and why?
"Consideringwhat I've said before, this will sound odd." -she takes a deep breath- "My mother. There, I've said it. Why? Because much as I really wish she hadn't, she had the guts to make a controversial decision and stick by it. I wish I'd had that courage when it counted."
56.Who are your friends? Do you have a best friend? Describe these people.
"You'redoing this on purpose, aren't you? My best friend is dead, and I have not- will
not- replace him. I don't really have anyone I can truly call friend here, either, and I left everyone in my tribe behind nearly a cycle ago now."
57.Do you have a spouse or significant other? If so, describe this person.
"No."
58.Have you ever been in love? If so, describe what happened.
"Twelvegrant me patience with these questions. I was. Or I thought I was. I was young, and confused, but maybe. And S'khori killed him. And that's more answer than I want to give, to be honest."
59.What do you look for in a potential lover?
"Someonewho would love my son as his own. Someone who would love me unconditionally. And someone who would stay by me for the duration. I am not interested in a 'fling.' And likely will not find anyone willing or able to meet those standards anyhow."
60.How close are you to your family?
"I'venot spoken to any of them since I left home. I like to think I was close with my sister, though. I miss her greatly. And my brothers, too, I suppose. And I wish, before I'd left, I'd been able to... to sort out how I feel about my mother."
61.Have you started your own family? If so, describe them. If not, do you want to? Why or why not?
"Ofa sort. I have little Anjha, of course. But no husband or mate, and likely none in the future. But I can be happy with my Anjha."
62.Who would you turn to if you were in desperate need of help?
"I...I don't know. I've never really thought about it. I... guess I ought to. I mean, who can say when some sort of emergency might come about. And me, with nowhere to turn."
63.Do you trust anyone to protect you? Who, and why?
"The
twelve. They are all I have, all I can rely on."
64.If you died or went missing, who would miss you?
"Selfishly,I hope my family misses me, since I'm already 'missing' to them, but truly I hope they understood and were not too badly hurt by my choice. Anjha would miss me, of course."
65.Who is the person you despise the most, and why?
"Incase it wasn't obvious, S'khori. I have good reason to."
66.Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict?
"Idon't like conflict, or arguing, but I can have a short temper sometimes."
67.Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations?
"Iused to be quite bossy. Now, I try to fade into the background. I'm not terribly social these days."
68.Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not?
"No,I really don't. I can't explain why. It just... doesn't appeal to me any longer."
69.
Do you care what others think of you?
"Asidefrom my son, who's too young to have any sort of opinion, not particularly."
Part6: Likes And Dislikes
70.What is/are your favorite hobbies and pastimes?
"I'ma single mother of a small baby. What are hobbies and pastimes?"
71.What is your most treasured possession?
"Ihave a small momento from my sister, that I will keep with me always. It's just a length of dyed, knotted cord, but it's important to me anyway."
72.What is your favorite color?
"Blue,
like the ocean."
73.What is your favorite food?
"There'sa breed of desert wolf back home that made for excellent eating, if you could get it. They were often in packs so it was quite challenging, but spiced right it was a great meal- and many more meals to come, too! What, did you think I'd say fish? I'm a desert girl, I'm afraid."
74.What, if anything, do you like to read?
"Learningto read was my second proudest achievement, right after having my Anjha. I'll read any and every book you put in front of me gladly."
75.What is your idea of good entertainment (consider music, movies, art, etc.)?
"Dancing.I used to love to dance, in happier times. I try not to brag too much, but I was probably the best dancer of my tribe."
76.Do you smoke, drink, or use drugs? If so, why? Do you want to quit?
"No,and I don't plan to. There's some days that are nearly enough to drive me to it, though."
77.How do you spend a typical Saturday night?
"...huh?"
78.What makes you laugh?
"Anjha, sometimes. He can do the silliest things! Just the other day, he managed to get himself tangled up in my blanket while I was cooking. He just gave me this confused look, as though to say, 'Mom, how did this happen?!' I laughed for a solid minute as I tried to get him out."
79.What, if anything, shocks or offends you?
"Anyonespeaking ill, directly or indirectly, of my son. Beyond that, I really couldn't care less as long as it doesn't affect me."
80.What would you do if you had insomnia and had to find something to do to amuse yourself?
"Probablyknit something, or cook, or play with Anjha if he was awake. Something productive, though, most likely."
81.
How do you deal with stress?
-shegrimaces- "Not well."
82.Are you spontaneous, or do you always need to have a plan?
"Plan...plan... I've heard this word before. What does it mean?
...thatwas a joke. But, yeah, no plans here. I just... do."
83.
What are your pet peeves?
"Peoplebeing loud late at night, when Anjha is asleep. Unfortunately, I don't have control over that."
Part7: Self Images And Etc.
84.Describe the routine of a normal day for you. How do you feel when this routine is disrupted?
"Idon't really have a routine. Well, in the vaguest sense, I suppose I do. I get up, feed Anjha, and go look for work. I do the work, look for more, and so on, until it gets late, then I bring Anjhe home and we go to sleep. He wakes me up once or twice during the night, and I cuddle him or feed him or whatever it is he wants, then we go back to sleep until the next day starts."
85.What is your greatest strength as a person?
"Iguess... that I'm a survivor? I've been through some hard times... I'm livingthrough some hard times, and I keep going."
86.What is your greatest weakness?
"I...I guess I'm a bit of a coward. I had the chance to be brave and I blew it. And now I want nothing more than to live my life in peace, raising my son. I like to think that if I had the opportunity to take a risk to make things better for him, I might take it, but... I'm afraid of what might happen."
87.If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
"Ionly get one thing I can change?"
88.Are you generally introverted or extroverted?
"Introverted,
I'd likely say."
89.Are you generally organized or messy?
"Itry to be as organized as I can. Of course, I own little, so that makes it easier."
90.Name three things you consider yourself to be very good at, and three things you consider yourself to be very bad at.
"Hm,let me see. I suppose I'm a fair hand at sewing. I'm a fair dancer, too, even compared to the professionals, though I don't know any formal steps or anything. I like to think I'm a pretty good mother, if that counts. I'm quite awful at singing. I mean, I suppose my voice is okay, but I just can't, you know, get the notes right. It always comes out sounding wrong. I'm not much of a warrior either. Well, I mean, I know a few spells, but like give me a sword or something? I'm hopeless. I guess I'd do okay with a bow though. And one more... heh. I know. The last thing I'm very bad at is making smart decisions."
91.
Do you like yourself?
"Well,I try to. I mean, I don't hate myself or anything, but I do have more regrets than I feel I ought."
92.What are your reasons for being an adventurer (or doing the strange and heroic things that RPG characters do)? Are your real reasons for doing this different than the ones you tell people in public? (If so, detail both sets of reasons…)
"Idon't really see myself as an adventurer. I just do what I need to in order to get by. If that means getting rid of someone's rat infestation or something, well... so be it."
93.What goal do you most want to accomplish in your lifetime?
"Ifeel like I'm repeating myself an awful lot, but I just want to raise Anjha properly. Be a good mother, you know?"
94.Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
"Hopefullysomeplace nicer than here. Not sure yet how I'll manage that,
though."
95.If you could choose, how would you want to die?
"Quietly,in my bed, surrounded by loved ones and friends, with my son and his children and their children all there to see me off."
96.If you knew you were going to die in 24 hours, name three things you would do in the time you had left.
"Findsomeone to look after my son, tell him I love him, and take one last look at the ocean."
97.What is the one thing for which you would most like to be remembered after your death?
"Ihaven't the slightest clue."
98.What three words best describe your personality?
"Kind, dedicated, and diligent. I hope that doesn't sound too arrogant."
99.What three words would others probably use to describe you?
"Aloof, certainly. Hopefully hard-working, too. And... stubborn? Yeah, probably stubborn."
100.If you could, what advice would you, the player, give to your character? (You might even want to speak as if he or she were sitting right here in front of you, and use proper tone so he or she might heed your advice…)
(No
matter what, never give up hope!)
