Well, I'm new to ERPs and such.
But I feel sexuality is important to a character. Like what's been said already. People have sexualities, why shouldn't characters? My character Zana Moui is Bisexual, prefers females over guys. Truthfully I've been.. Nervous to ERP with Zana, cause of two reasons. One I am inexperienced. Two. Most of whom want to engage in ERPs just kinda.. Well it's either "Hi I just met you, and this is crazy, but let's make love." or "Hi, you're cute. -Two dates later- Let's make love." It feels.. Unorganic to me. I dunno. I'll probably get used to it as I practice. "Many can be a hero, only a few can be the villain."

Yeah some characters are willing to have those sort of casual encounters as I mentioned with my character Kylar, but if it does not fit the your character, it does not fit her and should could be polite and nice while declining or just tell them to shove off! That being said, Don't feel forced to do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. If Zana does pick up a guy for the night and you just fade it to black, that should be okay. RP is a story its more about how actions affect characters than the actual actions themselves in my opinion. Character development and all that. Hope this made sense, I'm on like two hours of sleep. Peace is not my profession, it is yours. War is my profession. Should you fail at your job, I will not fail at mine.

I'm just gonna respond to the OP at this point since there are removed posts that sorta make the discussion look like Swiss Cheese.
Tarot is surprisingly wary of sexual relations. While he will flirt and has even done a bit of work in the area of titillation (he's gotten into places under the guise of a male dancer), he actually knows how damaging sexual relations can be--they imply things. They cause problems, more problems then they're worth in his mind. He's blackmailed enough people with proof of their own escapades (he's used several adulteries against their participants) to know that they give leverage to the right people. It's why he's made his list of requirements before he'll consider even courting the notion of a real relationship with a person, let alone intercourse. It's a list of things that are impossibly specific to the point where one (another player) would literally have to build a character specifically to appeal to Tarot. The odds of their being this person in the world are so slim that Tarot can feel safe knowing that it will never happen. As for say, discussing the topic of sexuality, he can be very frank. Again, he's used peoples own acts against them as leverage. He feels that essentially it should be an act between two people (he's not big on group sessions, so to speak) that enjoy each others company but should have some semblance of a dichotomy brought together, feeling the differences are what make the climax far more enjoyable. One aggressive, one shy; one dark haired, one fair haired. Things like that. Two opposing halves that build on each other to fit a whole--now that I think about it, Tarot's very zen about sex! |

I personally have no qualms about sexuality in RP and will go on the record and say that I've no room to judge since I've done a lot of things, not all I'm proud of but by the Gods I've done them. Ultimately though I prefer it to be a natural part of character progression and quietly frown upon doing it "Just cuz." I'm uber picky, I've been playing FF14 for over a year and none of my chars have really gotten into any relationships since I've not really found any worthy partners yet. Also some traits all my chars share is loyalty and affection for those they fancy... I also enjoy showering them with gifts. So if any of my chars start doing that then watch out, they might like you xD
When it comes to my characters, Valthoran is heterosexual though he doesn't mind being flirted with by men and just takes it as a compliment. He prefers intellectual partners and considers magical aptitude a bonus. He does prefer Elezen though with an emphasis on his fellow Duskwights. Byron is heterosexual and likes both Hyur, Elezen, and those of mixed blood. Though being from Ishgard his racial interest are very locked and never considered others. Merri is 100% homosexual despite being a traditional Keeper of the Moon and is only interested in fellow Keepers. Aside from that she is more flexible and just desires to be held and feel accepted. Shes also fluffy and purple. Very purple. Aurelia is somewhat bisexual with a bit of a preference for women, though being a Garlean magitek engineer caused her to focus most of her life on her work and has only recently been allowed to peek into her sexuality and feelings for others in general. Ansathota is bisexual with no clear preference, though she does claim to enjoy a woman's softness. Being a former pirate she's pretty relaxed on the whole issue though she becomes more girly around those she fancies. Haihane is bisexual though she is much too shy to ever outwardly show much interest in another, though she opens up easier to other Domans and those interested in her people's spirituality. Pharos is pretty much asexual and only has interest in gil due to being a sheltered albino Ul'dahn noblewoman. Though being released from the confines of her home has made her available for exploring herself further. Would most likely take a patient and knowledgeable friend to get close enough for her to become that way. I'm bad, and that's good. I will never be good, and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be than me. Valthoran Windwyrd / Aurelia Domna / Merri Renalah / Haihane Shiranui / Byron Mercer / Ansathota Nortisilwyn |

...I RP it if it comes along. It usually does come along and it's not a big deal or anything. My character's bisexual and dumps everybody he's been with. Just gets bored of them and moves on, usually nothing personal other than he gets bored or thinks things are getting too serious. |

The two characters I roleplay on FFXIV don't really delve into ERP though they're both characters I play on different... edges of the general subject.
Hiro: My primary is a young mercenary going down the path of being something of an information gatherer. He's analytical and generally point blank with his view points which has him on a bit of a robotic personality. Sexuality in general on a social level interests him, he watches interactions within the Quicksand and within his own circle of friends and acquaintances and does his best to understand the dynamics in their entirety on a purely logic based view. He's read about seduction, sex, and all the stuff in between but the most he's ever seen first hand is seduction as subtle flirting goes entirely over his head. However he also knows how sexuality can be utilized as a tool and is weary about it to a point of subconscious paranoia believing the emotions and stimulus that come with relationships and sex are blinding and for someone engaging in the activities and "spy games" he is currently involved in, which is something that he considers fatal. All those quirks he's a character I've had the most fun with relationships and sex in RP in a while, tilting heads, inciting face palming, people wanting to hug him, and awkward moments with courtesans of all sorts. As far as engaging in it, highly unlikely as he's certainly not interested (scared even) of short or one-time flings and is far too insensitive to maintain an actual working relationship. |

This may just be an already repeated viewpoint of the topic but ill go ahead and post it anyways.
Inessa is a largely Asexual character that has never held an interest or have entertained healthy thoughts of sex. She is generally focused on work or helping others most of the time. She has received sexual advances or people have tried to comment about her physical attributes, that would eventually lead into a romantic situation or interest. However, Inessa, being sex stupid (not knowing anything about sex) and being very blunt, generally takes shot's at their confidence or just generally doesn't understand or see what they are trying to do when they try to seduce her. This doesn't however, mean that she cant be sexual, it just means the RP that will allow this to happen hasn't happened yet, and probably wont for a while. As for ERP and normal RP in general, I find them to bring a higher quality of RP, especially when sexual characters are mixed with non-sexual characters. Makes for some immensely interesting RP as in real life, you will often have to navigate you're environment and co-workers, which can be a very diverse group of both homo, hetero, asexual and so on. This is especially true with Free Company story based role play's, where generally large group's of character's will have to be able to handle being around people they both like and don't like. IC temper's and sexual frustrations will flare, characters may find themselves to be changed ICly to something they once weren't, but in the end, its interesting RP. Of course though, ERP or sex seems to be a common or relevant theme in general NPC interactions and the lore even say's that there are Brothel's and sex slave trade that's been around for a very, very long time in Eorzea, so it would make sense from both an RP, world lore and story standpoint for ERP and general interactions between characters in normal RP to co-mingle, as in ERP relationships and interactions carrying over into normal RP and having some sort of impact on it. Just my thoughts on it though. I haven't ever ERPed since Ive been on Balmung.  @_@ |

I've done noncanon RP and ERP to get myself back in the swing of things or after a dry spell. Usually after buckling down at work or school or when I'd go through one of my OMGALLTHECONTENTANDSTOOFSRRRRAAAAAWWWWRRRR.
Though I'd get strange looks from people that didn't understand the concept of noncanon or AU practice RP. Especially if there was eroticism in it. They'd think it was just an excuse to be a cyber hound. |
