Implications of your statement:

1. LGBT characters are looking for sexual relationships only.
2. Demisexuality can never exist.
3. Avoiding the opposite sex because of lack of sexual interest is not valid.
4. No player would like to know a character's orientation ahead of time so they don't ICly hit on their character only to have it amount to nothing but embarrassment.

And so on.

I'm fairly sure that doesn't count as useless information.

Your character may not, but others do. There are quite a few people playing characters in relationships, and others who would like to be in one. I've seen at least one wiki template that include social ratings for friends, partners, and love interests. So yes, it is relevant.

Some people are going to ERP, and others prefer the fade-to-black approach. Either way, it's up to the players to decide what they're happy with.

Is it really a strawman if you, the original poster, just won't admit that it's what you implied? It may not have been your intention, but that's very much how it came off.

Now if you must know why I tend to make my LGBT friendliness open (though I do not have it mentioned in my player search as there just isn't enough room), there are two reasons:

1. So people dealing with similar issues can feel safe knowing that I will neither judge them or their characters for sexual orientation or gender identity.

2. Because I get tired of having a number of male characters making not-so-vague attempts at straightening Vetiver or Foxglove's gay away when they will never, ever have a chance to begin with. It's a waste of my time and frankly demeaning, especially when I am actively seeking RP partners willing to provide companionship on a number of levels.

So yes, just because it's useless to you doesn't mean it isn't to me or someone else. Speak for yourself and not others, yes?

Allister has stood in the mid of the Quicksand spewing blatant homophobic remarks at other people... so take that as you will.

He's implying that your argument is a strawman fallacy. Basically that the points you had made didn't make sense or weren't logical conclusions. It's a poor attempt to dismiss you.

Edit: Annd, thanks for the heads up Vachir. Sounds like just the sort of person I never want to meet.

Okay, that makes sense.

So, I went over my points, and yeah, there's errors here and there, but nothing clarification/minor edits cannot fix. However, after learning that the person calling me a fucking Strawman is a blatant Homophobe, I feel as though clarifying myself to him would just be a waste of time. His argument stems from a bias towards hate, and I don't think I'm going to convince him of anything, at this point.

[[takes out magitek mod unit]]

Peeking in again.

Final verbal warnings. If people cannot stay calm and follow the rules, I will begin handing out warnings. Please follow the rules. Here are some that I've seen people getting a -little- too close to.

Section 1 - Posting & Topics
  • Excessive off-topic posting.
  • Creating posts and/or topics whose purpose/title is sarcastic, belittling, or intentionally provocative in a negative manner (i.e., "baiting").
  • Spurious off-topic posts, including meme images and patent nonsense.

Section 3 - Discussion & Prejudiced Comments
  • Posting comments that attack another's sexual/gender identity (including but not limited to sexist and homophobic comments).

Section 4 - Attitude and Tone
  • Petty insults/name calling.
  • Posting negative comments about a member's topic(s).
  • Creating a thread for the specific purpose of highlighting an action or post by a specific user. ((this extends to posts as well. We do not allow calling people out.))

Do remember there is a report post button. Fire does not beat fire. If there is a post that is breaking the rules, I urge people to report instead of respond with a post fighting back.

I don't really see the harm in calling someone out for being openly homophobic, though; we should not have to tolerate intolerance, especially when it negatively affects a good portion of our community.

Then again, I also disagree with the previous assessment that the RPC should not be a safe haven, so take that as you will.

"Low-Effort Posting"  is a silly rule, so it looks like time for me to depart FFXIV-roleplayers.com! I have no interest in a site turning to elitism to get their moderators to moderate.

The harm in calling someone out for being 'homophobic' is that it might not even be true. If I claimed that someone was yelling abuse at me in the Quicksand it might be true but it might not be true - and the latter is precisely why rules against naming and shaming exist.

Again - it might be true but I've been part of this community long enough to be very skeptical of anything along the lines of 'he said, she said' because quite a few people team up to make up all sorts of rumours about people they clash with in an attempt to get back at them. Thus I prefer to adopt the role of the devil's advocate.

Edit: ...and just saw the mod post. I really should refresh the page before posting!
