I forgot to mention the types of RP. While I can para-play (Or Tier 1 play, as they call it), I also enjoy short PVE RP.

Sounds like a fun idea. The times I get online are absolutely terrible though. Best of luck finding someone!

Eh... I've read, and I'm still judging.
This isn't Final Fantasy Tactics, nor is it Final Fantasy 7, nor is it any other Final Fantasy besides Final Fantasy 14. I don't believe that the concept of what you're proposing fits the lore of Final Fantasy 14. For a private story which won't require interaction with other roleplayers besides you and your character's future girlfriend, hey, whatever, do what you want. The problem arises when/if either of you would decide to interact with anyone else who hasn't preemptively signed on to your adjusted viewpoint of the game setting, because you'll run into conflict with other players who will RP with you for days or weeks without a problem only to suddenly discover the "big secret". This throws them into an uncomfortable situation of having to decide if they personally prefer to stick to the game lore or not. The former option would mean they wouldn't be able to RP with your character anymore, and the latter option would mean they'd be in the same boat as you - requiring, inevitably, anyone that they RP with would have to make that same choice. So I guess it begs the question: Why not play a story concept which is inherently suitable for the setting of and lore-abiding towards Final Fantasy 14? There aren't a shortage of them, there's lots of interesting niches which players don't often explore. Or, alternative question, if you're dead-set on just loving vampires and you really must roleplay vampires in order to have fun roleplaying (and that's no dig on you, I've met people like that), why not play that story in an MMO where the setting supports the concept? Almost all MMOs have free-play options, so unlike "the old days" it's pretty easy to spread the RP love around to different games to play different types of stories that are more suited to the various settings. P.S. - "Delita", not "Delta". Lydia Lightfoot ~ The Reliquarian's Guild «Relic» ~ Lavender Beds, Ward 12, #41
This player has a sense of humor. If the content of the post suggests otherwise, please err on the side of amusement and friendship, because that's almost certainly the intent. We're all on the same team: Team Roleplayer! Have a smile, have a chuckle, and have a slice of pie. Isn't pie great? |

Yeah, what you're asking is people that interact with you to snap lore like a twig at some point more than likely. Â I mean if you play as a voidsent it's possible, I guess? Â But then you're asking for a lot of trouble when the word gets out.
But if you wanna be a vampire, TSW offers this possibility! |

I'm not sure how I feel about vampires in FFXIV as anything other than a form of Voidsent because there's no precedent otherwise, but I enjoy vampires enough in general that I could see contemplating it were it not for needing to start with a blank slate of a character. The less work you are asking others to do, the more likely you are to get interest, which may be necessary with a niche idea like this. I was meaning "a blank slate" in terms of an RP character that doesn't already have a pre-established backstory and connections, and some role-play already put behind them. I wasn't meaning to refer to in game levels or progress. Now I'm even more confused why that's desired. x_x As those above me have said, I'm not entirely sure this would fit into the lore of the game (unless as a Voidsent). FFXIV has its own lore and the lore of other FF games does not necessarily apply here. When you're asking to RP something potentially lore-breaking, you're already narrowing your audience and asking people to jump over one hurdle already. I think it would be helpful not to give them more hurdles to cross i.e. having to make a character fresh to RP and/or the game in general. Basically, it's a lot of work to put in for an interaction that's not most people's cup of tea. |

Laying the lore piece aside for the moment... This sounds like you have a grand story all planned out to the 'T'. Which is great, stories with structure are wonderful. However, what are you offering to your potential RP partner? Are they just going to be a side character in your story with no real reason to exist otherwise?

Eh. What people wanna do in closed RP is their business imo. I would just tread carefully when it comes to publicly brandishing such concepts that are outside the established norm of Eorzea. Aside from that, good luck, have fun OP.

Yeah, playing a traditional vampire in FFXIV would be very lorebreaking. Playing an aether vampire, on the other hand, is merely lorebending, and a lot more RPers are willing to go along with that. What I mean by "aether vampire" is a character with a voidsent-like ability to steal aether from other living beings. I play a character with this ability, and I have a friend who took the concept farther and plays a character who, due to reasons that are long and involved, can't regenerate aether anymore and has no choice but to feed on other people's aether to survive. Queue plenty of vampiric angst.
"Aether vampire," by the way, is a purely OOC term. Since there are no vampires in Eorzea (as far as we're aware), it wouldn't make sense to use that term ICly. As for the rest, I'm always very leery of people who are looking for an RP partner (especially one of the opposite gender) to embark on a long-term and exclusive RP plot with them. You're asking someone to become isolated from other RPers and devote themselves primarily, or even solely, to your story. That's a lot to ask, and it could even open the door to abuse. My advice to you would be to create your character, try to make sure they're reasonably lore-abiding, and try to build up a network of RP-partners. You might find what you're looking for that way, and you'll have an opportunity to build some trust before you ask a potential RP partner to invest large amounts of time in your plot. If the lore isn't an issue for you, I don't see why you can't just make your character's motivation to find someone and use that to create interactions. A weird looking guy spouting crap about sucking blood approaching every young girl he sees might bring issues in itself, but that's part of the fun: you don't know what's going to happen.
A NPC would better serve you than another person who might not go along with the big plot you've got planned out. Plenty of people RP without giving too much of a shit about lore, you just need to put it in your search info so people who are strict with the lore know to avoid you. |
