Anyways, I was curious about how the RPC community's various roleplayers RP their characters around the opposite and same sexes. How do you treat women? Men? Is it even an issue?

Feel free to go in depth. TL;DR is not a thing, here.

Blue:

Blue is still working out with learning the world. Blade has managed to roughly tell her the differences between males and females (not too insight-ly, but she catches up fast). She luckily still hasn't experienced any of the daily life experiences where differences between the genders are shown, such as dates, balls, or sexist arguments. Ignorance is bliss, they say, and she is ignorant. So as of now, genders are equal to her in how they should be dealt with.

Jet'a:

The Keepers of the Moon clan has a matriarchal society, and Jet'a's family was very strict on the matter, built around an amazon-like community. Only females were allowed to hunt, with males kept around the camp to do works such as crafting weapons, tanning, and assist the Matriarch in everything she needed. Jet'a was heavily taught to respect women, with particular care for those of his same clan, and he treats them all with reverential respect, never rising his voice against them, and hardly saying "no" to whichever request they might have.

This consequentially brings him to hold a grudge towards men who are rude to women or do not give them the superiority Jet'a was taught to see in females.

Vincent:

Vincent is only 17, and has been strictly followed by his teachers until just the other day. As of now, he hasn't shown any inclination towards either gender, but as the son of aristocrats, he was taught polite manners towards both.

Chiara:

Chiara is in her mid-thirties, divorced (now we could argue whether divorce exists or not in Eorzea's lore.. her husband left Eorzea to escape the Calamity, so she's as close as legally divorced as she could be) and has a pretty desperate goal: to find her lost daughter. This keeps her pretty focused and not incline to be sidetracked by social conventions. However, she used to belong to the high society, and still holds the etiquette of her former status. She doesn't expect chivalry from other men, but that doesn't make her hold a drudge against men. She tends to trust everyone all too easily, perhaps naively so, unaware of the dangers and less-than-corteous reality out of Ul'dah's higher tiers.

Dylise:

Dylise is a young girl, and a bandit. She's the classical type that will try her best to keep up with the stronger sex, while not giving up her femininity. She likes to throw sexist puns to men from time to time, but it's mostly only to tease them.

Kujh'a:

Kujh is another Keeper, but unlike Jet'a, he was raised and taught to see women as pure terror. He is afraid of them, and tries to avoid eye contact if he can, especially with Keepers Female. His main reason for becoming an adventurer was that he wanted to show the world that a male Keeper can be as strong and brave as any Keeper huntress, or better! He feels highly in competition with women, but at the same time, he can't get himself to face them in direct confrontations without feeling the urge to go hide.

Clive:

Ah, Clive. My lovely, sexist moronic jerk. The classical Jerk-With-A-Heart-of-Gold, he treats both genders poorly. He has a passion for women, but that doesn't keep him in line with them: if there is snarking to be done, he will serve even the gentle sex with his harsh words. He has a very difficult time engaging, unable to stay with the same woman for too long. More the one-night time type than the faithful partner, hands down.

Valeria:

Valeria comes from an island of hunters, where little to no difference was had between genders. However, since her arrive to Vylbrand as a recruit of the Maelstrom, she was forced to face the cruel reality, often dealing with pirates or adventurers trying to put her down. This often causes her to feel in competition with men, but all in all she has always been able to stand up to every challenge. Her sexual orientation is still blank, apparently.

Well, Zac has a weird pseudo-Keeper of the Moon relationship with women. Being raised mainly by his mother, grandmother and aunts, he learned it was best to do what women say when the say it, as well as to be kind and courteous. On the other hand, he feels that at times he isn't 'manly' enough and tries to be macho. Not in the whole 'Get back in the kitchen while being barefoot, pregnant with my child and making me a sandwich' but a whole 'You swing an axe for a living? Why not be a tailor instead? Goldsmiths make a good living.'

More prone to embarrassing himself and offending a woman in his macho moods than sweeping them off their feet, clutching them tight to his muscle-y hairy man-chest and riding off baerback on a black chocobo into a glorious golden sunset with long, luxurious locks whipping in the breeze.

Zhi doesn't really differentiate between the genders, to the point that I don't even think she has a sexual preference (or even really cares for it, but that's not the point). While she's wary of those who are bigger and built more for muscle than she is, she's small enough that that category includes as many women as men. Due to her mother having been a whore, she has a bit of a soft spot for them, but since there's boy whores and girl whores (how thoughtful!) that isn't really a difference either.

I do have a character in another setting who is totally misogynistic and acts the part of a chauvinistic pig, though, and he is very interesting to play, but Zhi is very . . . it's almost like she doesn't see people at all, including their genders. All she sees is the potential gil, and the potential danger to her hide. She'll flirt/joke/act sympathetic with anyone to get their measure (or to get a certain response), but I think that's more of a learned trait than actual intent. Beauty in either gender doesn't really affect her much; she considers it a tool to be used against others and is constantly on guard as a result. She's just sorta unaware of gender to a large degree, I think. Maybe she's just a late bloomer or something.

Hachi

Hachi isn't afraid to approach anybody, regardless of gender. For the most part, she sees people as equals, but tends to give females more credit for intelligence and other small advantages. Of course, this is due to some of her early childhood amongst her traditional Keeper family. Hachi has been removed from the traditional Keeper way of life long enough now to have let go of any extreme values regarding female superiority.Â

This being said, she is most comfortable and quick to befriend females, and respect is always shown to females who she considers 'elder'. Hachi is a little slower to warm up to the opposite gender, and is known to sometimes doubt their capabilities in comparison to her own. She has less patience for males and becomes easily agitated when her buttons are pushed. However, beneath her bravado Hachi really doesn't understand the male gender at all, and many of her more aggressive antics are simply in place to cover up her own uncertainty and apprehensiveness. Hachi is generally this way with all males from any race, but maybe most noticeably so with her own.

Trysten Skyborn

He's a player.

Trysten knows he is good looking and his confident attitude shows it. He's not afraid to talk to females, in fact, he's quite smooth. While Trysten is the type to flee commitment, it's not because he sees females in a negative light. In fact, Trysten is the type of male who would never hit a female- even if she meant to cause him harm. He has a strong sense of chivalry when it comes to the fairer gender- but it doesn't make him any less of a floozy.

Trysten gets along with males well enough, but loves to start fights. He'll usually deliberately provoke some kind of aggressive reaction from other males around his age and size.

Hiro doesn't have much of a background that favors either gender to any degree. He doesn't have much in depth physical knowledge about gender differences apart from the obvious physical observations he's made, he has physical preferences in terms of simple aesthetics, but doesn't specifically attach them to attraction or 'desirable' traits in either gender, but if brought up specifically he'll agree or disagree based on his limited understanding.

There have been a few in his encounters who have instilled him the the concepts of "women logic" and "misogyny" though they're sort of things to be discovered and elaborated on as time goes by and situations permit. Apart from cooperation and collaboration for work or daily interactions, people don't really mean much to him with regard to genders and their inherent, or otherwise, roles.

Erik had a strong father and equally strong mother, so he has little difference in gender treatment when it comes to those he sees as equals. He does tend to overcompensate with girls in their very early twenties and under, this is due to the fact that if his sister was alive that would be her age, and also because of his daughter. So the only inequality would be toward young girls.

Ooh, good question. Let's see here..

For N'hadiya, she grew up in a very strictly patriarchal Seeker society. However, she wasn't ever really one to follow tradition to the T. She doesn't automatically assign men to a higher rank than women. If anything, if there is a man in a leadership position, her upbringing makes her predisposed to not put much stock in his qualifications unless he can prove his proficiency and capability. As far as women, considering she grew up mostly surrounded by them, she has a stronger sense of camaraderie with them. But ultimately, she doesn't treat either gender particularly different from one another, even in regards to sexual attraction (though I envision her as having more trouble forming romantic attachments to men than woman, when I really think about it, again as a product of her history and background).

Naoh'to is.. so much the opposite, haha. While he grew up in a more matriarchal Keeper society, events of his past and the changed course of his life have more or less removed that inherent respect for females. He's become more of your typical silvertongued flirt and flatterer, and he even has a bit of a weakness when it comes to beautiful women. Women in positions of power or social statuses equal to or exceeding his own, however, he's come to mistrust - again, as a result of his past. He can flirt and the like with them, but ultimately, it would be hard for him to ever trust one of them. As far as he's concerned, a woman in charge of anything of importance or significance is a disaster and / or betrayal waiting to happen.

Men, Naoh'to treats on more of an individual basis. There's no one single way that he approaches them. They're just regular people to him, nothing special. However, notable is that in terms of sexual preference, Naoh'to falls into the 'occasional incidental homosexual tendencies' category, but that is a very rare occurence (and one he would never openly admit to) and more a product of circumstance and other factors than an inherent, overwhelming attraction to the same sex as a whole. In fact, he's only ever been in a relationship with another man once, and it ended in large part due to his inability to stay away from women. So you would never see him openly flirting with men in general, but privately and under the right circumstances? It's possible.

Jajara few up in a predominantly male family and as such tends to get along easier with males in general. The females of her family, including her sisters and her terror of a mother, were all extraordinarily strong women in her eyes who followed the traditional gender roles expected of her clan while maintaining their own brand of independence. Never was her mother just her father's wife, for example. She looks down on giving preference to one gender or the other and doesn't take overly "chivalrous" or "gentlemanly" people too seriously, feeling that while they are being insulting in a backhanded sort of way rather than polite as they may think.

In terms of attraction, Jajara is fascinated by non-lalafell females but that fascination does not cross over into anything sexual.

Delial believes very much in feminine superiority, feeling that females are indeed the stronger, smarter sex. That said, she tends to be a little more suspicious the women with whom she associates. She has a habit of underestimating men, feeling that they are easier to bend to her needs.

Sexually, Delial swings either way. Beauty is beauty, and sex is sex.

A long history of living by the sword has taught Xydane that gender doesn't mean squat when someone is trying to kill you and/or harm others. Underestimation and sexism will just mean a knife to your throat when you least expect it. *Sagenod*

Kage views both women and men equally. His father was essentially the money maker while his mother was strong outside of money and business (Think his father as having a cunning and wile mind while his mother had the force to make things happen.. almost)

Sexually... no one seems to care about Lalafells. ;p He has no preference or isn't biased against either.Â He doesn't mind others who prefer the same gender, etc.

That, and Orleans just doesn't see women and men differently. Â He sees weak people the same way whether they're men or women. Â He might sometimes feel sorry for them if they're getting pushed around, but he doesn't necessarily see people who can't take care of themselves as his "equals" no matter what set of genitalia they have.

Unfortunately, he hasn't found any women he's met in-game attractive yet. Â It's hard to find women who both have a take-no-shit attitude but also aren't overcompensating. Â It's not a usual female RP archetype, I suppose, at least not on Gilgamesh.

But yeah, if you're armed and in his way, regardless of your gender, you're asking for the exact same asskicking.

Regardless of gender, if you try to touch Armi she will freak out. However, if men give her compliments she is much much more likely to blush and look at the ground than if a woman does it. Both genders also have the ability to force her brain to reboot if they try very overtly flirting with her (She doesn't get it if you try to be subtle or use a lot of innuendo). Everyone is intimidating to her, regardless of sex, when she first meets them. Hell, months after she meets them.

Since she doesn't really see herself as a viable romantic candidate, she never assumes or thinks anyone is making a pass at her - regardless of gender. In that way she's very gender neutral about things -- everyone intimidates her and she assumes everyone sees her as nothing more than the strange girl who talks to plants.

She CAN recognize men as being handsome, but it's more of an observation than it is like "SO CUTE BE MINE"

Well ain't this a neat topic.

Oliwat Kokiwat: He doesn't really care either way. The old Rattlepack adage of "pack only what you need" applies to thoughts and opinions just as well as it does to physical belongings. Generally, there's no real need to consider any differences between the two when you're just traveling around, so Oli tends to treat people of all sorts the same way, more or less, which tends to be in an overly-polite and friendly fashion, unless they're rude back.

Raging Sun: Another character for the Don't Care bucket, though that's more because she has a much more basic respect system, mostly focused around strength and confidence. She's met people on both sides of the aisle that she deems respectable due to these traits, so she subscribes to the "have what it takes" mentality rather than any clear gender divide as a result.

Adalhaid Rask: Despite having a small selection of females to look up to, as well as being one herself, Adalhaid generally tends to view females in a lesser light due to the fact that her father was hoping to have a male child to train as a strong fighter for the Ala Mhigan resistance. Needless to say, he was somewhat disappointed, and although he was a loving father regardless, his disappointment was often evident. She's internalized it rather than let it go, and now mistakes it as dissatisfaction for females in general.

K'Tahni Hakaah: She's all about the Female Supremacy thing as a result of coming from a Seeker tribe. After deciding she'd rather travel than be in a harem for the rest of her life, she visited two of the city-states, Ul'dah and Limsa Lominsa, and found that female Seekers were dancers in one city and prostitutes in the other, and that made her pretty angry. She headed off to Gridania instead in search of the Keepers and their fabled female-centric society as a result.
