The incident itself happened out of the blue. A patron of the Quicksand stepped outside for fresh air when a man dressed in a black robe suddenly rushed her from behind, armed with a sword. Fortunately a nearby Free Paladin and a pair of adventurers managed to step in and vanquish the fiend, but questions no doubt lingered.
