Slight thread hijack because it's kind of nutty how often I'm seeing this question pop up recently in conversation - perhaps spurred by the Yugiri race speculation before 2.2 launched. It was stated in XII that male Viera do exist; we just don't see them because male and female Viera do not live together and they weren't written into the game. Perhaps because they didn't want to design male bunny people? Whatever the reason, we just don't get to see them. It's crazy surprising how many people missed this entirely or harbor an idea that Viera sprout from trees in female form only or that they form from the mist and don't need males. One person was so insistent on the latter theory that they spurred me to go back and double check to ensure that I didn't just make it up as apparently the Viera wikia article on the finalfantasy.wikia was not enough evidence to convince them. Anyroad.... Yes there are male Viera. |

So... here's a positive! I am assuming from the title that Cosmo (CosMo? Cos Mo?) is gay but it does not seem to be the defining trait upon which his character is built. I thought that was nice.
Anyway... I go to thinking and with some changes Cosmo's story can be lore-friendly and still follow the basic points which seem to be: character of mixed heritage character has a talent not common in his society character is ridiculed due to these traits character runs away to pursue this talent My take on a lore-friendly version: -C'osmoh Tia (or Kuh Osmoh) is a Miqo'te with multi-tribal or Sun/Moon heritage. (mama and papa are not Fran and Balthier but have personalities that are similar) -He has little skill or interest in the hunter/gatherer lifestyle -He prefers to study the arcane arts, possibly due to a past encounter with an individual skilled in such talents or finding an Arcanist's book - Because of his heritage and interests, he is picked on by the other children. -Cosmo learns of the Arcanist's guild and in a fit of youthful foolishness runs away from home with the starry-eyed notion that he's going to make it big someday and show those punks back home what he's made of. -DOCUMENTS!* ALGORITHMS!* ADVENTURE! COMEDY! DRAMA! *In Limsa Lominsa, Arcanists are the equivalent of Customs or Department of Immigration and Homeland Security. They use math and OCD to summon magic squirrels. ![]() |
