Adamantite ore is 2k apiece, you need 5 for one nugget, along with a Darksteel Ore (1.2k-ish) and five Fire Crystals (100 each). The nugget is currently selling for 9k. So, in bulk, you're losing over around 2.5k gil per nugget you make, if someone doesn't undercut the market even more. Doesn't sound like much, until you realize you're losing about a quarter mil on a full stack - if every one succeeds. If it fails? Welp, you've burned away 12k gold on that failed nugget.
Wee.
With Adamantite, the price remains high because Miners have to harvest it as a collectible to get Red Scrips, which means less of the ore is hitting the market, and thus the price hovers around that 2k point right now.
Thing is, almost no other ore from the expansion areas is profitable at all. Darksteel and Gold - regular old gold - ores are constantly selling at higher prices than Titanium and Hardsilver ores.
Lately, I've made MORE gil selling the skins that my BRD and MNK retainers are bringing me than I have selling actual ores.
The market and the apparent lack of demand or any real need for 90% of the stuff that 50+ gatherers can harvest are problems for both gatherers and crafters both.
The craft/gather grind, as both a time and money sink, is approaching levels of those crappy freemium smartphone games, and the change of Red Scrip rewards today has done very, very little to alleviate it.
