For the record it was announced months ago.... Might want to update that if you're going to appeal to SE with this.

Aldeus: "As someone who first realized he was gay thanks to your video games(Kuja you naughty thing), I humbly ask that you consider my arguments in deciding on the fate of marriage equality in Eorzea."
Frankly, my favorite part =P I applaud you for taking a stand, Aldeus, hopefully (though I doubt they will release with same-sex marriage) SE will figure things out quickly, and will do what is right. |

If the united states is considered conservative, then japan is considered ancient. They have 2000 years of cultural tradition and as of right now same sex marriage is against the law in Japan. You need to take note that a large part of their player base IS Japanese, and that they don't want to offend their own people by doing this, either. I'm not saying that this shouldn't be implemented, however. I do not want to see huge, sensitive debates starting and creating a rift in the community either. People supporting this should hang tight and be patient as I can guarantee it will be implemented in the neat future (Likely 2.1). Besides. Isn't marriage itself not getting implemented until 2.1 anyway? Felix Sideris

I don't think it's something that's off the table, but the Japanese gotta be eased into it. It'll happen, it's just a matter of when (And if the game is successful outside of Japan it'll happen sooner)

I'm aware of the Japanese stance on this, but seeing as this game will be available in all countries, I think the more conservative leaning United States is a good example.

I agree with Felix. This discussion should be postponed until the system is actually announced/implemented. Until it is, everything we can argue about Squeenix implementing it or not is just senseless bickering and speculation.

They aren't saying they are never going to do it, they are just being extremely cautious about it. If you can't or don't respect the caution they have then you need to remember that Japan isn't as progressive on this topic as the rest of the world. Will it happen? The answer is pretty much a yes, so just hang in their and relax everyone. Getting all riled up is only going to cause arguments and drama. Have some faith in Square, after all. If you can't have faith in the developers and that they will make the best choice for their players AND the games future concerning this, you should not be playing final fantasy XIV. I love this community and I love people in general. I don't want to see bad blood in the community because of a sensitive topic like this. Politics/Religion/etc. should generally be kept to one's self unless it is something positive or productive to talk about in a given situation. This is no different. Just like Ildur said, talking about this is on Hydaelyn is going to get us nowhere. Until Square is able to talk further about this system and how it works, there is no sense in stressing out and worrying about it. They have a game to release, and haven't set any light on this in a good while. For all we know, they already added same sex marriage into the system and have yet to announce it. Lets just see what happens. Felix Sideris

Same sex marriage is a hot topic globally and one that is incredibly controversial. We may be very progressive here in the United States, but even here people are incredibly intolerant and bigoted. As already mentioned above same sex marriage is out right illegal in any part of Japan, and for a country that still uses the same laws they had back when Tokyo was called Edo regarding nudity, I don't see this changing anytime soon.
Speaking as someone who has dual citizenship in two very different countries (France and the US) I can say that even some countries that are considered to be fairly modern and you would expect would be accepting of same sex marriage are not. France recently (relatively) passed a law for same sex marriage, and because of that there were riots and a lot of the population demanding this be changed, far more than actually voted FOR the change. Many people felt the decision was made because the politicians were being overly influenced by foreign governments or other organizations and felt they had no choice but to pass it, however the majority of people in France are against same sex marriage. And given Paris is the city of love and what not, you'd think they'd be even more progressive than the US. Bioware and Trion are two companies that are located here in the US (I think Trion is in the US anyways, correct me if I'm wrong) so they don't have to worry about cultural and political pressures since here it's more or less okay to be LGBT, for a company that is located in a country where it is illegal they'll feel a great deal more pressure for it. With all that being said, maybe it will happen, though for now I hate to say it, I wouldn't hold my breath. |

No offense to anyone who supports this or anything, but in all seriousness can we pretend marriage in general is not in the game. If we ignore the topic of marriage as a whole we can enjoy the game more, and just people have said before me, please hold judgement until same sex marriage is actually revoked, because of of now it's only put on hold.
Anyway I'm fairly sure most of you would enjoy this game with or without the whole marriage thing being implemented in the first place. I love you all and ask that you do not tear open a rift in our precious community as that is what will happen if this heats up. |

"Strike not while the iron is hot, but make the iron hot by striking." William Yeats. [/quote] Who are you striking here again? This could have stayed in the other discussion thread if you wanted to rally support for the poll, honestly. SE doesn't visit our forums (and if they do they probably aren't going searching for stuff like this). |
