I'm not even sure I understand how the vision thing happens since it just shows up when the plot says to. Does someone need a connection to the person they're getting a vision from? But then the MSQ character just needs to be in proximity to Hraesvalgr (no idea if I spelled that right) for it to happen according to one.
The languages part is pretty easy to rp, but even after finishing Heavensward I'm not sure I understand what else it's capable of besides an Ascian Captain Planet. Is the Echo also the blessing of Hydaelyn?
As far as being the/a warrior of light. If it came up to my main, he'd say he believes that's anyone who fights for the sake of the world, literally, Hydaelyn.
The blessing of Light isn't the same thing as the Echo. Beyond the evidence Sounsyy has provided and the effects of the Echo on a certain Sahagin leader, this gets pointed out by two fellows in the next to last battle in the HW MSQ:
In terms of what the Echo is actually capable of, in addition to the spoilered bit above, it appears to have two "common" effects: being able to understand the language of any other creature through a sort of "linguistic telepathy" (which explains why certain linguistic constructs remain -- your mind is trying to convert someone else's idioms into something you can comprehend) and being able to view scenes of events that have already happened. The Echo may also render you immune to primal influence as well, but this isn't entirely clear as we don't see anyone with the Echo but not the blessing of Light (or Darkness) get tempered, or attempt to be tempered only for it to fail.
There's bits in the game that say it's one way, and bits that say it's the other (evidence for it being the Echo, evidence for it being the Blessing of Light). The interview with Fernehalwes linked by Kage above notes that there are unreliable narrators in XIV, so I think the only safe thing to say is that we don't really know the truth of the matter. Most RPers seem to side with it being the Echo, however. Personally, I think the fact that we have no idea what the Echo actually does is a good enough reason to ascribe the protection to it instead of the blessing of Light (which seems to be more protection against Ascians and servants of Darkness -- when it's still blocked, a certain Ascian trivially disables the Warrior of Light to steal a "key" item).
The problem from an RP perspective is that what the Echo does, how it works, and what it actually is are closely guarded secrets of the lore devs. So, in terms of RP, it's best to stick with the "common" abilities outlined above -- omnispeech, random visions, and protection from tempering. If you think that's too powerful, you can go with just the protection from tempering; perhaps your character doesn't have the first and has never had the second. The visions of the past also seem to be outside the control of those who've had the Echo for some time (such as Minfilia and the Warrior of Light), so it's probably best to do the same thing for your character, too.
