Fèng Huáng Yǐng syndicate
(pronounced "F-uh-ng W-ah-ng Y-ee-ng")
We are witnesses of a world changing, hopefully, for the better. But ours is the path of humility and we do not pretend to burn bright, like a shining beacon of hope; we are the Phoenix shadow. A simple whisper to the right ear can change the course of history, though sometimes a dagger to the back might be needed. Obviously, everything has a price, even us, and we’ll sell information to the highest bidder, or extinguish a life in the same manner.
We are not children of the Light, shining flames of righteousness, nor of the Dark, plotting against humanity. We keep to that thin line between right and wrong - even if those serving the Law would label us as criminals - because we believe in balance above anything else.
“Only in silence the word, Only in dark the light, Only in dying life: Bright the hawk's flight on the empty sky.”
Who are we? (OOC)
The Fèng Huáng Yǐng syndicate has obvious Doman origins and its founding can be traced back to a few generations. Though the organization’s structure is family oriented, the leadership was never handed down from biological parent to their son or daughter, but rather to one the current leader would have designated as the next leader, not only for their skills or devotion to the syndicate, but because of their bond, which could be considered as strong as parent-child. Thus the Fèng Huáng Yǐng has passed into the hands of many of all gender, race or origin. It was recently believed the organization had died after their bloody fight against another syndicate - The Cursed Hand - leaving the few surviving members scattered around the world and forced into hiding. Yet the current leader - Ujitoshi Hagane - managed to escape with his life, fleeing the land of Hingashi, to slowly rebuild the syndicate from the ground up. Fate would have that the Cursed Hand was scattered to the winds at the hand of yet another syndicate, the Red Dragon, giving Ujitoshi the opportunity to finally expand the reaches of the Phoenix and regain its past influence.
The syndicate has always walked on the dangerous line between “good and evil”. But truly, what is ‘right’ and what is ‘wrong’? What is Justice but a man-made set of laws that can drastically change from one City-State to the other? Thus the Phoenix aims to keep the balance, to nudge events or peoples in certain directions, buying and selling information, or even ending a few lives if necessary in the grand scheme of things. They keep to the shadows, or hide in plain sight, observing and acting only when needed. Their other ‘activities’, also semi-legitimate, help funds the syndicate and pay its members and workers.
Needless to say, to walk such a fine line means that its members follow a certain code of honor that other common gangs of misfits and criminals may lack. Loyalty, obedience and fidelity are qualities most will have among the syndicate. This is often paired with their own sense of ‘justice’, that disregard the justice of the different nations of the world, in favor of keeping balance; For have we not all heard that tale about the Warriors of Darkness, hailing from a world on the brink of destruction because Light completely extinguished the Dark?
We are a Dark and Mature roleplaying FC and require members to be 18/21+ years old before joining. Based on the Mateus server, we have a small house in the Goblet Ward 16 Plot 27. Either contact Katsuro Wakahisa in-game, poke at me on Enjin or on this site.
What are we looking for?
-
Discretion is mandatory. If you have no sense of it, we have no need for you. The Fèng Huáng Yǐng syndicate acts a bit differently than others, as it doesn’t fling its presence nor dominion over any territory into people’s faces. Mistakes of the past have been learned and we now walk in the shadows.
-
Loyalty is key. Not that turncoats, traitors, usurpers, or undercovers are not ‘welcomed’. But crime and espionage aren’t fun when they’re betrayal circuses either. This organization is very much a family-style criminal organization in which the bonds forged are to be considered stronger than anything else. Yakuza inspired, exploring the oyabun-kobun relationship as well as punishment for failure.
-
Consequences are real. This is an unfortunate and oft-neglected truth. This means that sometimes we’ll lose in our plotlines; at other times there won’t be any wins or loses. While we’re not saying you need to let us kill or maim your character as narrative sees fit, there’s not always going to be situations where things end nicely, and roleplaying with us means that there will be a price for very action - the extent of which will be discussed and consented with every individual involved.
-
All good stories need points of conflict; nothing is perfect. We want some rivalries, grudges, and vendettas. We’d love to collaborate and plan consequences with roleplayers on the right side of the law. Or love/hate relationships with other crime syndicates. We want stories, events, investigations and maybe even legal proceedings. We want all the drama and tension of a good crime thriller.
-
Smaller is better. We prefer a smaller, close-knit group than a large pool of members, most of which we never really know. It caters to people - like yours truly - who are prone to social anxiety and can’t follow in an event with too many people speaking at once. It also means the bonds we’ll create will be far more meaningful.
-
We all must do our part. Don’t join expecting to sit and be entertained. Be proactive, start rp on your own, propose ideas. Like any community, it will thrives and grow if we invest some time and energy into it.
