  1. Sorry, guys, I just found out that Brom is working and it's necessary for him to be there for the plot reveal. *sigh* We'll try pushing it back one more week.
  2. The ones that kill me (figuratively) are the cobyns and goblins in thanalan (the early levels). I swear those goblins cast faster than any mortal hero could move, and the cobyn aoe covers a bit too much area. But yeah. I'm noticing the exact same thing.
  3. The cross-server thing might help, but I would assume it would require hardware while will take time to implement. The problem with people leaving is that, as you said, they are impatient. But why are they leaving? Because they can't play. Given a month, that will be handled and all but the most stubborn ones will return. And if the game is still great, those most stubborn ones will be lured back by their friends. The players may be impatient, but SE isn't. ((On a side note, a coworker just came by and saw this website up and asked me about it - I might have another recruit! Mwahahahahaha))
  4. I heard that as well - that quite simply, if the server is full (meaning there's a queue) you can't create a character.
  5. Someone told me years ago that the first sign that an MMO is failing is when they have to condense their servers. True or not, it's that reputation that every MMO wants to avoid at all costs and very few successfully avoid. I think that's what they are trying to do, honestly. TOR was the same way at launch. People screamed and bitched and screamed for them to open new servers and they finally had to do just that. It was, what, a year before they had to turn around and condense their servers again? Less than that, I think. It is for that reason that SE is trying to open the bare minimum of servers in that first month. Because they know that after the first month, the number of subscribers will drop off. And they can't afford the reputation of having to condense servers again only a month after launch.
  6. In theory that would work but it depends on the bugs. A lot of the problem here is the volume of people. You can't test the floodwalls when it's calm as glass outside. And you can't find the bug fixes if people aren't finding the bugs for you. And you can't find bugs or bug fixes if the entire server is turned off. True this is what the betas are intended for but since we are past beta, they really can't fix the problems without the servers being online.
  7. Is anyone still getting 3102? They said they had fixed it.
  8. Pretty much this, yeah. Someone asked me how other MMO launches have been worse. The difference between this and other MMO launches is that a lot of those launches had various bugs in game. Other than connection issues with servers being overloaded, FFXIV is relatively bug free from what I've seen. That's insane. It's crazy how smoothe the game is once you get logged in. It's such a good game that everyone wants to play it and that's what's causing the bugs we are facing. It really is so good that it's causing its own problems. Edit: And before anyone points out the duty bugs we've been plagued with, I would point out that those ARE server connection bugs from too many people assaulting the duty servers.
  9. They are thinking that they don't want to add too many servers or they'll just be condensing them in a month. It's the game every new MMO has to play and few ever win at it. I think they are setting it up so that they can add a few at a time, so that all the servers are close to full. Hopefully when people leave after the first month, that will keep the servers from being empty.
  10. This is still a far cry from a lot of bad MMO launches. And I know several people who have managed to get in and create characters, so this is a huge improvement over how things were a week ago. I think the problem, here, is that the Titanic can't turn on a dime. Not that we are going to crash into an iceberg or anything, but getting the servers running flawlessly for millions of people isn't a problem that can magically be fixed overnight. And sorry if the titanic was a horrible metaphore, I had Amy Grant stuck in my head suddenly.
  11. I'm sorry for the delay! We did not have the event on Sunday, obviously, but with the optimistic outlook on last night's patch, I think we are good to go for this Sunday! I'm not sure why it's not showing up on the calendar, but I'll go about fixing that.
  12. WHOOHOOO! I thought about you as soon as I saw this thread. Congratulations!!
  13. I don't think that's the case. I mean the thing with the duty finder is that it's all about proportions. If all the tanks and healers were in the other duty finder, sure, that would cause problems. But if you have 100 people queued up for a dungeon and 85% of them are dps, it won't be any worse than if you have 1000 people queued up and 85% of them are dps. Actually... someone with math... would it actually be better? Anyway, I don't think it's anything to worry about. On the contrary, I think the fact that we're more likely to run across people from our own server is kind of cool. I guess I should clarify. There are two potential situations. One is that when you queue, the DF is trying to find someone, anyone, who wants to do what you want to do. The second is that the DF actually puts you in a long line of people trying to do the same thing. If option 1 was actually what was happening, then yes, the smaller group would be frustrating. But it's not, as shown by a few pieces of evidence: a) Tanks and healers typically get insta-queues. That wouldn't be happening in option 1. It shows that the queue is actually a line of mostly dps waiting for a tank or healer or both. b) When I did Ifrit, I stayed in that cavern and there were a TON of people standing around waiting. I could watch them and a few would disappear one after another until it was my turn. It wasn't that no one wanted to fight Ifrit - it was simply a matter of waiting my turn. So, yeah. More or less people isn't going to hurt or help queue times at this point. The only thing that will affect it is the proportion of tanks and healers vs. dps.
  14. Wow. I'm not gonna lie, I am very surprised. For some reason I thought Balmung and Gilgamesh were like the most popular servers in existance. Shows how silly I am. But clearly they aren't so that's great news!
  15. Do you mean, like, do I need to know woodworking IRL to RP a carpenter? Hmm... I dunno. I don't think it's a hard requirement. But I do think that a little experience or research can help if you are RPing a full-time craftsman (as opposed to an adventurer who crafts). It just would offer a little more flavor for you to work with, though, I think.
