I'm debating on if I want to re-roll and start all over at this point or wait and see what server transfers are all about.

Being realistic here, it's highly unlikely that new characters are going to be allowed on Balmung or Gilgamesh even after server maintenance tonight. I could be wrong, but from what I've read, they're not opening locked servers so much as making it so more people who already -have- characters there can log on at once, and they are also making new servers for new players/characters. Transfers later this month may allow some of us to get on Gilgamesh or Balmung, but I'm going to have to say, if they are pay-to-transfer, many people will probably take a pass on that and stick with whatever server they managed to land on. So, that happens to be Lamia for me. I just didn't want to wait a week, or weeks, to be able to play. I tried getting on Gilgamesh and Balmung several times, but to no avail. If any other RPers are stuck on Lamia with me, for the time being or for good, and would like to start an IC linkshell just for some RP derps, I'd be more than willing to help out or join one. Just PM me here, reply to the thread or shoot me a /tell in game (same name as my forum name here).

This is why these topics need to END. All I see are people getting pissed off cause they can't log in and taking it out on each other in posts ... and screw the "get a thicker skin" crap people have said to me. People will do what they do. Point your anger and fingers at the situation that needs to be remedied through Square Enix not at each other. Pretty much how I feel. There's not much we can do, the ball is in SE's court to fix or not fix the issue. I just wish they'd have listened to the community and made a couple of designated RP servers to help the community stay together. Right now, it's fragmented over pretty much every server out there because, really, who wants to wait a week+ to MAYBE get a chance to play on Gilgamesh or Balmung?

I wasn't taking it personally. I apologize if it seemed that way. I just speak my opinions plainly and don't enjoy softening my arguments with people who I feel are mature enough to handle the criticism. So, in a backwards way, it's a compliment. Either way, you bring up a decent point about making a thread on the official forum. That being said, you should have suggested that earlier instead of responding with cynicism for like 4 posts. Now we're just butting heads when we could have had an educational conversation. But I only posted twice in the thread before this response? :? Anyway, my point and opinion still stands. It's just not going to do much good here, and probably won't on the official forums either - but if you want to give it a shot there, you've got more chance than here of reaching a few people who maybe don't realize what prolonged afk is doing to the server load. Or petition SE. I would say it just seems more logical from the get-go, but I realize that people's first instincts is to rant to friends about a problem and might not realize until later they're preaching to the choir.

I've been playing MMOs for well over a decade. I realize that putting up a thread isn't going to magically fix everything, but at least people should know that it is effecting other players who can't even make characters right now. You should always be aware of your actions, even if "everyone else is doing it." Should I also not recycle because most people don't? You don't have to agree with me, but don't look down on me for trying to fight a shitty situation. That's all I'm saying. Woah now, I think you're taking it way too personally there. I never said anything rude or personal about you at all. I'm simply saying that most people here probably already realize the fact and are trying not to afk for long periods of time. It's the people who DON'T realize, care or visit these forums you should be trying to reach via the main forums. Better yet, petition SE to make an AFK kick timer. If you want to see something done, you've got to reach a bigger (and less aware) audience than here. Though, frankly, I doubt most of the player base is going to care. That's just the nature of MMOs. No need to strawman the argument or take it personally.

So I shouldn't even try? What kind of attitude is that? The realistic one of an MMO vet, I'm afraid.

Telling a few dozen people here not to do it is NOT going to stop the thousands who don't bother visiting the forums who do it. You're just going to have to wait for a fix or for SE to make the server caps/databases able to handle the load. There's not much more you can do.

Well, if they ever open up some sort of affordable or free server transfer after things settle, I'll go to Balmung as originally planned. But, I'm sorry, I'm not going to wait a week or a month to play a game I've been looking forward to for so long for the slight chance the server MIGHT be available by then. Or might not. Rp is one of my favorite things to do in game, but it's not the only thing I can or want to do in game. So if it has to wait until server transfers or until there's a little RP community on Lamia, so be it. Hopefully one day, they will make a designated RP server. Frankly, I don't see it happening - games either seem to launch with or without them and that's how they stay - but one never knows. If they do make an official RP server, I hope they offer free transfers there for all of us on different servers that would rather be all together on one designated server. I don't see it happening until after all the release issues and rush are settled though, if ever at all. Anyway, for now I'm on Lamia. So if anyone else is there, feel free to /friend me. I'm usually playing with my RL husband and might be afk from time to time, as we have a very young infant daughter that is, of course, priority over a game but we do like to play in our little bits of free time here and there.

My husband and I are on Lamia and would be interested in having some contact with other RPers. Feel free to toss me on your friends list there. I might be afk on and off during the day (I have a 6 month old baby to take care of) but we do play periodically as we have time (aka when she's napping).

Are they going to offer free transfers eventually? I've heard rumors of it but haven't found anything official. If so, once things settle down, I'll transfer to an unofficial RP server ... but I probably wouldn't pay for it, as I'm typically strapped for cash anyway. Unless it's fairly inexpensive, unlike certain games' fee *coughWoW* :dodgy:

Yeah, my husband and I couldn't get on either RP server all weekend, so we had to roll on Lamia. It sucks, but it is what it is... I don't see the server locks going away for a long time, not until after release and the first free 30 days are over at least. And I would really like to play on my limited time rather than wait for 30 days or keep randomly checking and HOPING I might get to roll a character. I'll just have to hope we can find a little group of RPers on Lamia and make the best of it. But hey, if anyone wants to make Lamia the unofficial 3rd RP server, it's hardly ever locked so it's got more room to accommodate, and wouldn't piss off the JP players by rolling on "their" servers.

Just another RPer. I'm re-making my vanilla FFXI character Ivven (I was on Ramuh the first 2 years of vanilla FFXI and then moved on to other games). I didn't RP him then, but I always did have a basic persona in mind for him - namely an arrogant ass of a paladin Not a villain, mind you, but probably a righteous glory hog who takes himself a bit too seriously. My husband will also be rolling with me (he was on Ramuh as well back in the day) and playing his old character, formerly a red mage in FFXI, Dein Xceriis. I have a lot to learn about the Lore of this particular game first though, I missed out on 1.0 because I was still pretty heavily involved in both WoW and EQ2 at the time.
