For those who ordered the download from Amazon: Amazon didn't send out emails with the registration code. Go to Amazon > Your Account > Your Games and Software Library. There should be an Activation Key listed under FFXIV in the list.

I didn't pay any more to preorder than I would have paid to order later. Are there really places that charge extra for that? That makes no sense.

Another refugee to Faerie here. I've been playing on Gilgamesh since P4, but the friends that I've talked into playing the game aren't able to join me there. It doesn't look like character creation restrictions are going to be lifted any time soon, and it would be ridiculous, after raving about the game to my friends, to ask them to just patiently wait so that at some unknown time in the future (maybe a couple days, maybe a couple weeks, who knows?) they'll be able to play. So we're off to Faerie, for now at least. ...which has gone from open to locked to open and back to locked in the time it's taken me to post this.
