Really should get that updated i am currently playing on Balmung, my arcanist is currently level 18 there, not awe inspiring i know but its a good start, and whats the point in a level cap rush right? ^^
-
Considering i'm by nature a very impatient person i sometimes get on my own nerves with my obsession for OCD RP. but I RP to interact with a world like I would if i were in my characters shoes, and, well i can't pull a mount out of thin air, and unless i'm given a specific spell / ability that allows me to (Warlocks in Warcraft with the Summon Dreadsteed for example) then, i'm hoofing it to get to my horse
-
This is neither of those things, i'm taking about getting well clear, and well before the ability/spell is completed I have found however that moving behind the casting NPC tends to work better than moving away any other way, but i don't know if thats just an optemistic guess

Perhaps its just server strain with so many people playing at the moment. i'll give it a few weeks and see if its fixed or whatever, time will tell

I consider myself to be a decent level of gamer, enough that when i see a red marking below me, i move. However 1/3 times an enemy lays one of these power moves at my feet, despite being clear of the attack i still take damage from it. I thought at first this might be server lag, connecting to Balmung (NA) from the EU, so i kind of stopped worrying about it, however when i went to go and play on Cerberus (EU) for a few hours earlier i found the same thing happening there. Is there some sort of bug with these abilities at the moment? or is it just something i'm failing to understand? B

Leves, fates + hunting logs are our primary joint source of exp at the moment, i'm guessing it'll all work out later once we reach higher levels maybe. just seems like large swathes of land being left questless atm, its a little strange. I mean for my character who started in LL, almost the whole of central Thal. is questless, if you don't count the 'kill x amount of level 1 creepies outside the gates' quests from within the city.

So, with the restrictions on character creations due to server stress recently, myself and a friend have been seperated across servers. Something we finally managed to rectify today when he finally managed to create a new character on Balmung. I started my character in LL, and he started his today in Ul'dah, so i headed over to quest with him and level up, however, half of the quests i know from central Thal. are missing for my LL-started character. Now i was expecting the Main, Story quests to be missing and allowed for the huge chunks of Exp i'd lose thorugh not having access to those, but some side-quests are missing too. For example the quests near the coffin bar, the ones to collect ant mandibles, or clear the mine of cobalds, or killing shrews in barrels, and likewise at the 'hub' who's name i've forgotten just north. It seems that a lot of the quests just arn't open to me, which leaves me a little confused, how if i'm right, are players supposed to play together if 50-60% of their quests arn't mutually obtainable, or likewise, how are you meant to level up multiple classes with a shortage of actual quests (Not counting the leve's) Any advice, help or clarification is welcome here! Hey Rinh! Yeah i read after posting and was just on my way to correct that i'd not missed it. Eagerly looking forward now! . I will indeed look into both the Union you suggested, and the Linkshell, though i'll have to do some research as to wether they are IC or OOC first, I've a complex about randomly joining IC channels without IC invitations or cause, but thanks again! this really is an amazing community

I. Basic Info Characters: Belvisa Leras Primary character: Belvisa Leras Linkshells: Currently None Primary RP linkshell: None II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Heavy Views on RP combat and injuries: What happens in RP, Stays in RP. Provided its mutually agreed. I rarely get into emote fights because of bad experiences in the past with power emotes, but its not unknown. Views on IC romance: Same as above really, i've nothing against things happening IC'ly. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): It would be a strange world indeed if none of the characters herin were related!, for people to make the effort to roleplay siblings i think is quite creative. Views on lore: Though i've begun reading the lore, i can't confess to being to well read, however the same as with all immersive worlds, they work best when you follow their cannon, flying around on a gryphon and sealing rifts doesn't work in Final Fantasy. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): I consider myself smart enough to determine what is, and isn't out of character, therefore i've no objection to any channel being used for IC, though i don't fully understand the concept of the linkshells, they appear to be some form of magical, technical radio concept which is ideal for those long-distance, IC communications. III. Other Info Country: Wales, UK Timezone: BST (Currently GMT+1) Contact info: Contact me ingame!

Considering my own personal experience, and personal choice to always level cooking, in every MMO i play i figured i'd offer some advice of my attitude towards this topic, it is one thats quite close to my heart . Though IRL i'm an abysmal cook, i get by on the most basic meals if i'm cooking for myself, (A lot of ready meals, or packet meals, or take it out of the freezer and whack it in the oven meals) I do have a love of cooking, i watch loads of TV shows about it, i once dated a chef, i've read recipie books and have a few (specificially cake ones) even though i've never tried to make them. What i've always found when RP'ing a craftsperson, is to always be enthusiastic about your craft, even if you lack knowledge about that certain craft or its components, enthusiasm wins out. I suppose another factor to keep in mind is how much of a busy body you want your craftsman to be, i like mine to be busy, chatty, and generally active which is why i plug for enthusiasm, if however you'd rather a quietly confident artisan, one who knows their own skill limits but doesn't give away their secrets, or their inner-joy at making things anew, then theres a lot of RP potential there too, to quote a famous movie : "When Pope Benedict asked Giotto for a drawing to prove his worth as an artist, Giotto drew a perfect circle - freehand ... perfection is a powerful message".

Thanks Taeh, Hopefully with the maintainence/improvements due over the next couple days i should be able to establish myself on one of the two servers. If they are both equally large i suppose i'll just play a bit on both and see which has the better community. This probably isn't the best place to ask, but i guess its part of my introduction to admit that, having not played the previous incarnation of FF14, i have no idea what the story was, so those carried over characters (Legacy ones) how does their story work? i'm assuming they're the only characters in the game with a 'history' of sorts?

Sadly i've not actually been able to log into any server long enough to try and find any RP. these connection issues are really disheartening. I intend to roll on Gilgamesh as soon as the character creation restriction is removed. unless theres another server recommended, but from what i've read here the majority of the community is there right?, B x

Croeso!, Hello!. I'm usually terrible at writing these things, so I'll shamelessly steel the template offered in the stickies above and stick to that format! (Or this will go on forever, and will be un utterly pointless amble through my online life without touching really upon any key factors ^^) MMORPG Background Like most (not all) people, my first MMO was Warcraft, I've played it for a whole decade as I still have an active account on one of its biggest RP servers, Argent Dawn EU. I've spent most of my gaming life there, although I have moonlighted on other servers too. I've also played RIFT, and Guild Wars 2 (sadly not GW1). I spent about 6 months as the loneliest RP'er in space as I tried EVE online, but didn't find any signs of role play there, (there was only thin and sporadic signs of intelligent life too!) RP Experience As I mentioned above, I've spent the best part of ten years being a role player, I'll admit it's not been constant, I've had lapses into PVE and PVP, I've generally enjoyed my experiences in all games I've role played, though finding a community that suits me is somewhat difficult, as I'll explain later. Character ideas I don't have huge plans for my character at present. I never do at this stage, I prefer to let her experiences define her. So at present all I can tell you is that she's a bumbling, slightly under par thaumaturge in the making, though how she'll turn out remains to be seen. What kind of role player am I? I consider myself to be a heavy, heavy role player. I don't mean this in the sense that I consider myself incredibly skilled as a role player, I make mistakes and I learn like everyone, but what I do is take role playing for myself seriously, which is to say even while questing I try to stay in character, (no extended sprinting bouncing moment, I walk where possible, I always carry food and drink where possible in my bags) in less magically charged worlds I tend to tether my mount in one place and refuse to mount unless I've had chance to run back to that location to retrieve it, (I've not yet decided how I'll manage the teleport and return spells, so that's one to be sorted!) I don't enforce this kind of play on others, it's just how I enjoy role playing, what has gotten me into trouble previously (as mentioned above) when other role players in a group don't allow me the freedom to roleplay my way. (To offer an example, while roleplaying a routine patrol with a former guild something was relayed to us IC'ly that required our immediate return to base, and when all my fellow patrol magically mounted up and charged off, I ran, and later had a good ear bending from my then-GM) About me IRl Hi, my name is Beccy, I'm 25 from South Wales, UK. And I'm an addict. I've been addicted to video games for the last 10-11 years after an old boyfriend got me playing Morrowind. Since then I've totally lost myself in the immersive power of MMOs, though I do also play some single players, like the TES series. Most people who know me, would describe me primarily in two ways, OCD and a creature of habit, I always over think things, planning for every eventuality, which has been useful in organising and leading guilds, or other group ventures, but painful in terms of dealing with spontaneous people, the comedian Jon Richardson famously said there is a way to split the worlds people in two defineable groups by asking a simple question "where are your car keys?"(or other important belonging, substitute 'mobile phone' for those without cars!) and he describes that the answers will be people who's keys are where they a) left them, b) put them. I consider myself a putter. I not only know where my keys are, but anyone in my households keys, on the color coded key hanger in the hall. Because if my housemate leaves hers lying around, that's where I'll put it . There really isn't much else to add, feel free to ask any questions, or poke me in game if you're interested! Also, as a NB because I didn't think it relevant to my introduction I found the community through a google search for 'final fantasy 14 roleplay' hope this helps in some way, Beccy, X
