  1. behindthename.com is a good bet. It includes alot of common Norse and Germanic names and you can actually look up at their meanings and pick the right one for your character. Fantasy name generator is as far as I know WoW based but you can try your luck with it.
  2. That's metagaming. If they end up spreading it in character with or without my permission, I'd get mad.
  3. Well, I would never RP a Highlander to be honest. I like Nordic names, but I find no appeal whatsoever in XIV highlanders (no offense, just personal taste). Midlanders are more my thing. As for the names being cliche... why does that limit me to light roleplay? Humans use common names. There are a million Johns on Earth, but not one of them has every been told "I don't consider you a real person because you have the same name as some other people". Barrett and Lawrence are proper English names, which is what most of the Midlanders in Final Fantasy use. And I'm not trying to be a special snowflake. My characters are meant to be everyday people, so it's entirely on purpose that they don't come with names like "Aldegeveryathajarion the Almighty God Slayer and Immortal Hero of the Northern Plains". Personally, if I were a Midlander parent, I'd give my kid a normal midlander name. Because if he's got a name like Geironul, he's gonna get his ass kicked by the other midlander kids. It also occurs to me that the 'light roleplay' comment was probably directed more toward the OP than myself. I get pretty defensive about my Barrett name, though. Been using it for years across dozens of games, but this is the first one where people have ever taken issue with it, because apparently there was some dude in FF7 with that name. I was talking to the OP. I just take stuff realistic and go with lore-friendly names. It's all preferences, man.
  4. Those are cliche names in the roleplay universe... it pretty much depends on the branch you're trying to roleplay in... let's say you're an highlander. Highlanders' name originate out of German and Nordic names. Nordic names like Fjolnir, Fraegr, Billrost, Hreimorr, Hergunnr, Geironul, Byggvir are all viable if you're trying to roleplay as an highlander. Do some datamining depending on your race and pick yourself a name. If you're not that lore-friendly and you're just looking for some light roleplay, then you can go on with whatever you want.. good luck
  5. You need to finish lv15 story quests. Then you can get to any city. Alright, thanks!
  6. Can I leave Limsa and travel to Uld'ah later on in the game? Or is it not possible till I reach the end-game? I'll probably start out with something that puts me in Uld'ah once I get the opportunity to create a character in Balmung if Uld'ah has the most active open-rp scheme.
  7. Marauders are pirates, essentially. Eorzeans equate the axe to being pirate-y similarly to how we, in real life, equate peg-legs to pirates. Limsa Lominsa has, for the last 700 years, been a sanctuary for pirates. Ships from all over the world make port there and it's where most pirates and other seafaring folk make land. The Marauders' Guild used to be on one such ship, called the Astalicia, run by one of the most feared pirate crews, The Bloody Executioners. However, when Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn defeated the Bloody Executioners and became Admiral of Limsa Lominsa ten years ago (1567 6AE), she outlawed piracy in Eorzean waters. Instead of killing off all the pirates though, she tried to ally all pirates under the Lominsan banner and conscripted as many willing pirate crews and factions to work as "Privateers." These Privateers could legally pillage/plunder/kill/do pirate-y things that they'd always done so long as it wasn't against a fellow Lominsan vessel. Now, with former pirates (Privateers) working under the Lominsan banner, the Marauders' Guild was moved into the Thalassocratic Navy's headquarters, the Coral Tower, where initiates into Limsa's Navy are taught the ways of the axe and the musket. Hope that helps! ^^ Lemme know if you have more lore questions! Oh and there is some open RP activity in Limsa, but it seems to be highly dependent on day/time. Try visiting The Drowning Wench, The Missing Member, or The Bismarck for the most active RP in Limsa. Thank you! I'll probably start as a marauder. Roleplaying as a pirate sounds fun. Does Limsa Lominsa provide the same amount of open-rp while compared with Gridania or Uldah?
  8. Hey, thanks. I'll start out with Balmung. Can you give me some info on a marauder's lore? Does Limsa Lominsa have active open roleplay, since that's the place that I'll be starting at if I go as a marauder?
  9. Thanks for your response! I have a timezone advantage so I believe I'll be able to snatch a character today or tomorrow if I'm lucky. Still waiting for more responses.
  10. Hello... I've been roleplaying for a while now. Take it from modern-day interactive city roleplay (GTASA:MP) to text/web-based roleplay... I've did it for about 4 years. I've mastered all the terms including metagaming/powergaming/non-roleplay stuff and would really like to get into the roleplay scheme of FFXIV. I'm currently on trial and will buy the game as soon as possible. How's the RP like? Where do people usually roleplay? Will I witness come-up roleplays right off the bat? I already have a character on Gilgamesh that I've focused on leveling because I didn't see an active playerbase to roleplay with... I'm willing to open a character on Balmung. I consent to each and every kind of roleplay from ERP to anything else other than homosexual roleplay, I do whatever I need to do in order to keep a steady flow with both the background and my relationships with other characters. What type of roleplay is appreciated in the current roleplay scheme right now? I currently don't have any knowledge of FFXIV's lore just yet. I'm willing to roleplay a middle-aged man who makes a living out of hunting and mercenary duty. I'm interested in the game itself, I'm looking forward to do both grinding at roleplaying at extreme levels. When's the roleplay scheme active(server time)? I have alot of free time on weekdays because I do morning shifts... like, real early morning shifts. When does character restriction for Balmung fall off? How's the end-game scheme? Will I still be able to participate in active raids while having the opportunity to roleplay? I'll probably go with a lancer once they ditch the restrictions for Balmung. Anything I need to know about its lore? Thanks for reading this big post, waiting for your answers..
