I had been entertaining the idea of involving botanist mechanics in RP after "hiring" a group of adventurers to protect me through Coerthas (Yes I actually RPed an escort mission, was pretty fun actually) Looking through the gathering log I noticed that when it comes to shards and especially crystas they tend to be found only in certain regions, with the bountiful Black Shroud producing 3 elements, La Noscea 2 elements, and lastly the more "extreme" areas od Thanalan and Coerthas only producing one type.Suddnelty had this whole IC idea of the reason of the lack of resouces could be of an imbalance of the elements coming from the earth and that they could be "planted" in the soil to try and inflence the growing rates of crops since I understand that crystals gathered from mining do not follow this same rule. Was wondering if acording to the lore there is an explanation as to how the crystals, and especially the ones obtained from trees are created. Someone mentioned that they are created naturaly after interacting through the weather (for example: Coerthas has abundance of ice because of the snowstorms and stuff) but also have not managed to find any info regarding that. Are there any botanists / miners / farmers who are knowledgeable about the stuff?

I think that just like you said, weapon usage does play a big role that I had not thought of yet, although there are ways to work around that a bit (Aero can be set as an additional action so a Thaumaturge could use it while weilding a scepter for example). Personally I´ve felt that all 3 schools of magic are more related to different philosophies and concepts of the self: Conjurer: Meditation, communicate with nature, spiritual beings, soul Thaumaturge: Understanding of life and death, religion (as in orthodox rites and such), inner potential, body Arcanist: Intelligence, curiosity, a wish to understand the unknown, mind I believe I will go aound the NPCs and see what else I can find, like I said my plot was more about the potential wiithin the person to use one while wanting to use other so maybe it will be interesting how Vic becomes frustrated when he wants to learn how to heal but all he can learn is to destroy.

(Edit: changed subect line to better reflect the nature of my question) Been working around here and there and after advancing through the thaumaturge questline it gave me an idea for a possible plot: my character has been trying to learn how to use healing spells but has lots of trouble (similar to how Sylphie and her mother use their own energies and thus can shorten their lifespan) , however while the conjurer needs to "borow" from nature I remember reading somewhere that a thaumaturge uses his/her own inner ennergies to meld the aether iinto spells. With that being said, is it possible lorewise for a character in this situation to be torn between these two schools of magic? Granted I don´t want to make some sort of all powerfull archmage, but rather to show the struggle of realizing the correct choice for a pacifist between: Wants to learn how to heal but has lots of trouble when using healing spells, sometimes to the point of exhaustion. VS Does not want to learn how to hurt others but realizes that offensive magic is much easier and not only it doesn´t take a toll on his body, but can even become intoxicated with the power he can weild. That way instead of a traditional good vs evil plot it becomes more about wanting to do something vs being able to do something. So... ideas? thoughts? suggestions?.......cookies?

I was originally planning to use it into the backstory but now you´ve made me really curious about it haha Have to wonder if someone has pulled this off before and how difficult it was, especially taking into consideration the whole "tension" going around since only when a common enemy came to the scene the different races and cities decided to band together, and even then not everyone is on the best of terms.

Thanks everyone for the info, seems that indeed it is possible but quite rare, and for the clans I had figured that usually the child would inherit the clan traits of only one of the parents, since that would also explain why there are so many NPCs with very definite traits.

Perhaps this has been answered in the past and if so I´d be thankful if someone could point me in the right direction / delete this thread Been wondering for a while if children from 2 different races (Miqo´te + Hyur for example) are possible and also if it can happen between clans (Seeker of the Sun + Keeper of the Moon) as well. I know that there are no "hybrids" since there are none in the game so far, but I´d like to know if something like this was possible and if there were some sort of "dominance" for the race / clan of the resulting offspring

Also it seems Gilgamesh won´t let new characters due to the high population I think, is there a specific time / day of the week to try?

Greetings here! I´ve spent the last couple of days reading through the site and finally decided to take the plunge and try some RP for real, that being said I´m still fairly new to most of these stuff but would welcome any sort of feedback / advice / tips that you might have for me. --MMORPG background Geez... it has been quite some time since I played one, about 7 years I think? Used to try a few F2P titles from Aeria Games like DoMo or Grand Fantasia --RP experience Used to be in a small 5-7 ppl guild and did some light RPing but never on a "serious" scale (we rarely, if ever, used emotes) however I am more than willing to learn. --Character ideas/info Want to use a "support character" as in, rather than being in the spotlight it could represent more of a supporting role. As for the character itself I´m still writing him up: just got to read the RP guides and to be honest was quite intimidated, but also intrigued at the same time so I want to use as much reference material as possible (except from 1.0 because... er... reasons ). Class wise I want to stick to either WHM or BOT and for the possibe plots I got an idea for a traveller of sorts by using the sightseeing log as the central focus: that way I could create stories around it as well as to have some way to track the progression and character development. Either that or do some sort of morality / philosophy / knowledge thing dealing with good and bad and stuff (having a good character with neutral tendencies or vice versa) although I think I´d leave that for later once I have more experience. --How did you learn about the coalition? Battled raging dragons, travelled scorching deserts, climbed the tallest mountains!!!...... and then just googled searched on RP guidelines and this came up. --What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy? Since I´m just beggining I´d rather start as a light one, although I wouldn´t mind changing to medium if it looks like I can handle it / get stuck somewhere in level progression. --Anything from real life you're comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc) Kinda learning how to juggle both my new job and school schedules, but so far it seems it´s working well. I really like videogames and their narrative devices. I usually "devote" every December to a single RPG (Persona, Tales of, Diablo) so after playing a lot of Curtain Call on my 3DS decided to try FF XIV... and pretty much I´m love with it. Also like to read LOT (reason I got a smartphone was just to get the Kindle and Fanfiction.net reader apps to take em everywhere) because of that I´ve come to understand that anyone can have the potential to write an interesting story and I want to believe this can translate into RP as well (just my opinion though, feel free to correct me) One last thing, I´m in Famfrit right now so I dont know yet if I should move or create an alt but I guess that can be left for later. so....
