1. The best way to fight the trolls and haters is to make your presence even more pronounced. The worst way is to let them silence you! I think the VAST majority of players want to be immersed in the game. Even if they've not been roleplayers, or are uncomfortable with what they've heard of roleplayers, they will at least enjoy using emotes and entering into some witty in-character banter. I can't tell you how many times I've "/cheer"ed after a guildhest or "/congratulate" when someone gets a loot drop, only to see the other members of the party reply with their own emotes. Sure that's not full-fledged roleplaying, but it is immersive and in-character, and that's how we build a strong community. Does anyone else have similar stories?
2. I love that IC intro, Rock. Here's my inspiration: I swear I did not alter the colors in any way. This was but a fleeting moment at sunset and just a few seconds later the sky had changed. I love and embrace the ever changing, limitless sky.
3. Here's my primary character: Mhuswys Tymbahlwyn pronounced "Moo Swiss Timble Win" And to keep you from having to look it up, my first name means "Mouse Sister", so you can just call me 'Mouse' if you see me in-game. I'm on Gilgamesh, and I'd love to run into some of you!!
4. I. Basic Info Characters: Mhuswys Tymbahlwyn and Rhot Berk (I like my Roes) Primary character:eeek... no way I can decide that yet Linkshells:no clue Primary RP linkshell:no clue [*] II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): light. I like to stay in character, and some group events are cool. Views on RP combat and injuries: not a fan of RP combat or injuries. I prefer the combat we can actually take part in. Views on IC romance: makes me uneasy, but I enjoy it when I see others fall in love. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): the more background and color the better. Bring it on. Views on lore: I really appreciate it when people take the time to know and fit the lore into their gameplay. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): I like it when there's a difference between IC chat and OOC chat. [*] III. Other Info Country:USA Timezone:central [*] [glow=blue]~Special announcements can be found in the posts below~[/glow]
5. When I saw this, my first instinct was to run the other direction as well. Then I read Rock Sandbourne's post (on the first page) and realized that he was right. The best way to build our community is to set a good example, be inclusive, and let others share in the fun. A lot of, no most, people want to get immersed in the game and into their characters, truly. I think many people feel, however, that they need to be 'cool' because they think the rest of the people out there will see them as uncool if they immerse themselves. If we set an example and let people know that they are 'cool' if they get into character, too, then I think we will see more join us than not. If you RP because you like it. If you get immersed because you like it. If you just prefer to stay in character because you like it. Then have confidence that others will like it too.
