I have been many things. As a child, I was a poacher. I was a predator of the forest, for reasons that were not my own. As I grew and understood, I left.. running for many years as the prey that I, myself, had hunted. As an adult, I stepped out into the light. I became a Knight. I became a Templar. I led many, fought for what was right, and held their tenets to my heart. But even as times change, and so do the people, there will always be those that struggle to fit the mold cast upon them. In the end, everything I have been was always bound in the chains of others, constricting who I was and preventing who I wanted to be. I lie, sneak, cheat, manipulate, and deceive. I wear the guise of an angel with a soul much darker than that. The skins of a poacher are too tainted for me, and yet the armor of a Knight shines too brightly. So now I walk a path between the two. Those tenets are still on my heart, but sacrifices have been made. To protect myself and those I love, there is little I will not do anymore, even if it casts so dark a shadow that others would fear to step inside. This is my resolve, my conviction, my path. I do not walk this path alone. Beside me are others that society might shun, but hold their heads high as they follow their own hearts. They are people I know, people I love, and even people I hate. But regardless, it is the path that binds us, and I know that should I falter, they will be there to pick up the pieces and succeed where I could not.. just as I wouldn't bat an eye should another fall, picking them up and forging onward. It doesn't matter what we do. It's why we do it that burns fiercest in each of our hearts. It's the benefit it might bring, and the possibility that no one else will have to walk the path we do. We walk it, because no one else will. We do what is needed, because no one else will. But at our very core.. we do it all for ourselves, and no one else. We are many things. We are outcasts. We are knights. We are kids. We are sages. We are engineers. We are brave and foolish and wise and ignorant.. and arrogant and timid and formal and chaotic. However, together, we are a shield; An Astral Aegis that shines in a kaleidoscope of different people, different places, different motivations, and different desires. It defends one sole path in the hope that one day, it will no longer be needed. Yet, until that day, we will do what is necessary, no matter the cost. We are who we are.. and we'll fight to remain that way. --Excerpt from a letter found outside the burned hall of the twelve. RP Intensity: 46-75% Theme: Outcast Knights/Adventurers Free company: Yes Recruitment: Open Server: Balmung Website: http://astralaegis.enjin.com/home'>http://astralaegis.enjin.com/home OOC Info UPDATE: We have re-opened recruitment, but only to utterly good applications and characters. Apply now! We are a newly founded RP FC built from previous knights. With a desire for less upheld roleplay and seizing the unique chance of bringing our old IC lore with us we have formed Astral Aegis, a group dedicated to the further good no matter the cost. Our rp rolls from righteous actions of aid and compassion, to treasure hunting and exploring. You can join the more pious of the outcast knights in their duties they still cling to, aid the engineers in their quest to rival Garlean magitech or simply go shopping with our resident fashion obsessed miqo'te. Through all this we yearn to be as lore specific as possible, however always understanding that overall FUN is the goal. What we offer is a very active free company in all three areas of the game, PvE, PvP and RP. We have a somewhat addictive personality as far as roleplay is concerned, random rp is almost daily with intentions of moving the overall guild storyline onwards through events. Currently we are looking for anyone who believes their character would fit the theme and actively encourage people to check out the website. Additionally, we are proud to say we are very EU friendly! Something that is not seen often, the general timezones in the guild serve both the EU and US regions with RP happening in both. As an EU player on Balmung it can sometimes be hard to find RP without staying long into the night, here is your answer! So if the concept catches you, you're over 18, hate drama with a passion or just want to say hi, then shoot on by to the forums and throw us an application. http://astralaegis.enjin.com/home Guild Rules Unlike many guilds in many other games I'm not going to offer a huge list of guidelines or regulations. We're all playing this game for the same reasons I hope. To have fun! That being said most things are very common sense things that would apply anywhere not just a guild. I will however list a small few that I think are very important for the Aegis as a whole. Drama & Harasment Although this may fall under common sense I'm going to say it here anyhow. Many of the players in Astral Aegis have had some poor experiences with OOC and RL drama becoming a problem. So we would like to ask that you keep that not to a minimum but to a near non-existence. We do understand that bad days happen and sometimes you just need to vent, however if at anytime that venting becomes an issue for someone and you're made aware, you need to stop. Such things should never leak over into our public channels at any time and if they do they become a kickable offense. In short; keep drama out of the game and everyone will be happier and if you can't please keep it to private channels and if you're asked to cease and you do not, realize you may be removed. This picture is Unrated and may contain adult content This isn't exactly a rule but almost a warning. We expect to maintain a membership of adults and as such we're going to have and allow adult levels of humor and conversation. Essentially if you find that you're easily offended than we're not the Free Company for you. If you are going to be upset at someone because of something said in jest than this may not be the Free Company for you. The officers will not police the chat channels and if you find you have an issue with someones comments or sense of humor than your best recourse is to talk to them privately or take advantage of your blacklist feature. Complaining about such a thing will lead to someone pointing out the first rule above. Activity We understand that this is just a game and as such are not going to make requirements of your time on a daily or even weekly basis. We do ask that you grace us with your presence at least monthly. Thus if a character falls past 30 days of inactivity they will be removed from the company roster. Linkshell & Free Company Chat We have two seperate methods of communication given to us in this game and being a role play guild we're going to take advantage of one of them. Thus starting 9/17/13 the Linkshell channel will be considered an IC channel and the Free Company channel will be considered OOC. Please keep this in mind when using those channels and try not to intermix the two too often. The rest comes down to common sense so use it and follow the above three rules and we'll get along nicely. We look forwards to gaming with you in the future.

Technically, if your character is in game and you, the player, are not in front of your computer, then you're not having fun are you? And you're preventing someone (who also paid the same money you did!) who *could* be having fun, from having any (at least in the game). So I can't answer your question, because the question itself is unrelated to the situation. Now I'm not trying to guilt-trip you or anyone else. I'm simply stating my opinion as you stated yours. This is true. But by logging out I will then risk my fun by putting myself in a situation where I cant then play when I wish. And your right others did pay the same..however..not to me, so thats really not my problem. I paid square for the product, I expect use of that product at my whim. It just so Happens that staying logging in is the only way to achieve this. This is why I present the question to you all, I know at least half would do the same were they on the other side of this.
-
You know if we logged off, you still wouldnt be able to create a new character right?... I mean you are aware they locked that functionality Day 2 of EA. before the mass kickings and login issues. Character creation is locked so more people dont contribute to this situation.. not to ease it.
-
Selfish? Maybe. But when im paying money for this time, i expect to be a little selfish. As i said, it sucks you lot cant get in, but at the same time why should my fun stop?
-
You have to understand here, I for example, spent three hours battling the 1070 full error to get online, after sitting in a queue of 637 people for another hour. Once in, I'm not leaving. My game has been logged since the second day of early access and I'm not going to log out just so someone else can get on and do the same. Yes it sucks...that's a given, but its the same as anyone else will and does do. Time however has come at least for people to understand that the capacity of SE servers isn't the issue, but rather the login and instancing servers in the data centres, it's these that are being upgraded. Currently the worlds are not full of players, that isn't the issue, the issue is that the servers responsible for placing and moving those players in and out of instances are responsible for the entire data center instead of them being grouped per say three to four realms. Hence once these are added to, accessing the server will be fine as there seriously isn't that many people on at one time.

I wouldn't agree, no. The economy shouldn't even be a factor for bringing roleplayers together. That's the purpose of the RPC? So how does splitting the community meet those goals? And I'm not a legacy member. I'm starting fresh like all of the non-legacy characters. I don't want to play on a non-legacy server. I want to play with the majority of the role-players and have experienced players to RP and play the game with. Have you seen anyone say they don't want to be on balmung because they believe the rp to be better elsewhere? If anything the only thing that isn't a factor for not wanting to start fresh on balmung IS rp. Everything else from a stable economy, players who have completed the content, to server firsts, to established companies to players already at max level influences people's choice of server. People's issue with a legacy server is specifically that.. It's full of legacy players who haven't been reset from the last game. Nothing against the players themselves, it's the fact they got where they are on mechanics not available now. What may be hard this time was easy for them before and vice Versa. It's not an even playing field and to some... That matters. -

I thought the vote was for making Gilgamesh an alternate server while the RPC would remain based on Balmung based on the fact that it was, in fact, stated in the news article regarding the vote right here. I keep seeing this comment that the vote made the servers equal, but I never saw when that became the official policy. Can anyone link me to that? That said, everyone should respect each other. That's pretty basic if these boards want to stay a good place for an RP hub. On the flip side, I don't think pointing out the possible negatives to either server is a negative as long as it's done respectfully. edit: I suck at quoting. Simply put... If the servers are not classed as equal then there is little point for the members of Gilgamesh to use the forums. The idea of a rp hub, is to encourage and foster roleplay. To then say to those who use the hub your second class because you won't play with us begs the question why open up the choice of an alternative server at all. May have just said " it's balmung or you can leave" -

Would you then agree on the other side of the coin. That it is selfish of those wanting to remain where they are with their set up economy back from a game that is practically completely different to what we have now. That it is selfish to keep their earned money from mechanics that the new guys can't now abuse as you did back then? Would it be different if your characters had been wiped. Would you be moaning about your lost time then? I doubt it..a few maybe... But most would suck it up and start again. I'm sorry but let's face it, if this coalition didn't have new members from the reboot, what would be larger? The remnants of the legacy players or all the new players banded together on behemoth (since this remains the alternative) -

First, the line about the smaller pool of overall RPers on Gilgamesh was relevent to MrHeat's query. It wasn't like I was willfully targeting a Gilgamesh thread and taunting or anything like that - which is feeling to me what is being implied. I invite you to re-read posts #20, #21, and #22 on the thread itself to read over this within the scope of context as it applies. Moreover, there's no assumption here - at least not for my part. People have stated in no uncertain terms upon which server they'll be playing. Look at the polls. This is fact. The assumptions I see being made are by the OP in that people in support of Balmung are somehow berating those who've opted for Gilgamesh. I would be interested to see the specific examples that prompted this thread's creation, since it appears to be more than just mine. I'm fairly certain in each and every case there was no intent to "lord our superior population size" over the smaller community, as is being suggested. I think you've gotten me wrong here. I said originally I wasn't targeting you but rather using your post as an example since it had been brought up in the thread. I certainly do not believe anyone is lording over anyone else. My point was, and remains, that since we did an official vote... Both servers should be seen as equal and comments about the size of the community on either server should neither be used as a positive or negative. However the poll (on what people are choosing to play on, not the server vote poll) wasn't by the majority of numbers on these forums but rather the vocal few. The numbers as can be seen in the registration. Statistics show a bulge in new guys since ARR testing began. Additionally that doesn't include those who want a fresh start. My point was rather that while you old legacy players may believe you hold the majority of numbers here that isn't the case, there is more "new" people off the back of 2.0 as such.. You can't assume that the majority of people on here are going to balmung just because ye ole legacy players voted in a poll that everyone else didn't. It is a assumption as you don't have clear evidence of every members choice. -

To the amyr I don't actually disagree with you,but I doubt its a case of over sensitivity. The problem is that the past week has seen people be vocal about things such as splitting the community, not happy due to the server choices, outright dislike that people don't want to goto balmung. The staff have actually handled it somewhat well, but that doesn't mean the community as a whole has accepted it. The only way to stop it devolving into my server is better than your server bickering is to nip it in the bud, which is what I believe rock was trying to do. What may be the odd comment here or there only invites further comments down the road. -

Edit: What he said ^ I think it would help if everyone got out the mindset that "this forum is for balmung" i mean..we have had the vote... a server was chosen, Why not just accept it as two equal RP servers, legacy and non-legacy. What i mean is, sure right now gilgamesh is the smaller server purely because its literally just been chosen. However aside from the vocal minority on here, we don't know who is going where. This forum boasts about its subscriber count, yet people see a poll with 15/20 people and decide the majority is heading to balmung anyway, so the server vote was for the few. If we stopped using terms such as "minority" and "smaller server", which alot of you do in circumstances where its not needed, as you say eva your opinions have been known so why bother even putting in the line about small player counts in your reply when it added nothing to the conversation? It was based on assumption... an assumption no one has the facts to backup until launch. Now this isn't some attack at you, far from it, you just happened to bring an example to the thread for me. It is basically the same as someone coming on and saying "if your after quality roleplay then maybe somewhere else than balmung is better, since it has such a high population of RP'ers the quantity may dilute it". Now if you saw that sentence you would all go up the wall crazy with abusive posts and outright deniles. The sentence doesn't say anything directly bad about balmung, its based on an opinion but it is put forward as fact. This is the same thing. Tldr: Stop inferring that the population status on gilgamesh is a bad thing. Or using it within topics aimed at gilgamesh players. No one wants your opinion on how bad the RP will be due to smaller populations, nor is it your place to give it in such threads. -
Alot of rp communities tend to respond very well to frequent scheduled meet ups, such as every Tuesday at the same time same place. That way everyone knows where and when and the news spreads easily " oh yeah there's the weekly meet at xxxxxx ". Looking forward to getting in on Gilgamesh, crafting rp is definitly a focus for me and hearing about the housing features I'm even more interested.

So decided my first post should be a welcome desk post, before yaknow.. posting something that gets me disliked So since there isnt a template for this stuff, im just going to ramble at you. Im Tsori, im 24, i live in the UK. All normal stuff so far. Outside of gaming, i am a concept artist, development artist, environment artist and game developer for Codemasters UK. Anyone who has played anything by codemasters in the past few years will have seen some of my artwork, even without knowing it. I got into this whole thing luckily through LOTRO, back when codemasters birmingham handled the EU side of things. They loved a bit of my artwork and asked me to join up and its been getting better ever since. Im an avid fan of art, as my job requires me to be. But also gaming, especially MMO gaming. I am fascinated by social interaction within games and believe it takes a fully persistant world to really capitalise on this. I have played almost every MMO you can name in the past 10 years, on every pay model. Some of you may recognise the name however ive used plenty others such as Ioni, Alyssiana, Catz, Tsion ect ect. Im not new to the RP scene either, however i have only been RPing in MMO's in the past 2 years, beginning in SWG, then a little in WoW, Champions online, dcuo, STO and most recently GW2. Being a creative person obviously RP is a brilliant outlet as is taking your ideas of story and letting others tamper with it. So onto FF14!- Il be honest here, i didnt even try 1.0, ripples of what happened at release and the months following were felt even here in the UK Industry. The idea that something could drop in such a way seemed impossible. However, when you sit at a pc all day.. you dont want to come home and sit at a pc to game. Unfortunately its a running trend with developers, we dont want to sit and play pc games because its just like work. As such ive made the recent shift to the console, i began prepping myself to the reality that i would likely be forced to play DCUO on the ps3/ps4 until TESO is released next spring, however for those that know, DCUO PS3 has no attempt at RP in any shape or form. Then i see sparks of FF14 as i browsed the web and im intrigued, the biggest barrier to alot of PS3 MMO RP communities is the stereotype that its "impossible to RP on a console". Currently arguments span far and wide across most elder scrolls online forums about how PS3 Roleplayers are not welcome. I disagree. However... thanks to ARR's setup that isnt an issue, i will be there, alongside the pc roleplayers. So heres where im at now, luckily i got into beta a few days ago.. just in time for the last weekend to finish . So i am amply looking forward to next weekend, checking every site on information, trying to get an idea of what characters i want, how i want them to be, what guilds to look for. You will find a few more posts from myself in various linkshell topics and i also hope to chime in on roleplaying as a whole. Characters: For once, i want to settle on one character and play it through. Too often i leave unfinished characters in the wayside due to seeing another id prefer. However my general themes tend to evolve around characters such as: Steampunk Engineers Technomages Background characters I much prefer to be a background character over the center of attention. I like fully formed characters with depth, so so so so much depth that it takes more than a day to get to know them. I want to be surprising you IC for months. My backstorys always have twists, characters are never what they seem. I never go evil, never go criminal. Yet i avoid "good" characters. I need that balance, i need it to seem human. Well thats pretty much me.
