Enteris Posted April 26, 2015 Share #1 Posted April 26, 2015 A “game” of sorts. And, as such, not sure which subforum to post it in (mods feel free to move as desired). Also, my apologies ahead of time if another thread like this already exists. As an era comes to and end, I’ve decided to look back on what all has happened since I’ve played this game. Mainly… I look at my characters and think of what all they’ve been through and how they’ve developed. Then I decided to go ahead and make this thread as a sort of good bye to both the game and the RPC. As such, here it is… Look at your list of characters (assuming you have more than one, but feel free to post if you have only one). Briefly talk about how they started and where they’ve gone. In other words, what you had planned for them when they were simply a concept in your mind to how they ended up developing up to this date. For instance: John Boy was originally conceptualized to be a grunt in the Brass Blades. The plan was to join up with other Brass Blade players and RP being a “cop”, so to speak. Due to circumstances in RP, he ended up becoming a mercenary for hire in Coerthas. He ended up actually meeting someone there, falling in love…… etc. Of course, to be fair(and for likely better examples), I’ll start… Raandal Bennett My “main.” I originally conceptualized him as the street rat turned hero type deal. He started out as a midlander, but because I wanted him to look more like a grown man rather than a teenager in armor… I fantasia’d him into a highlander. Growing up on the streets of Ul’dah and eventually earning his keep through battles in the coliseum, Raandal had learned of the value of hard work and tenacity. Through this, he was to likely become a Brass Blade or Sultansworn… or so was the plan. RP was headed that way, but because of reasons I won’t get into, I essentially scrapped the Sultansworn idea and went instead with the adventurer idea. During his adventures, he met Daphine (planned with my wife). Over the course of their adventures together, they fell in love. Eventually they decided to form a company together (semi-planned… we had originally wanted to join another company, but meh…)… a company of like-minded adventurers with the goal of aiding Eorzeans. The plan from there was to simply keep him as a plate-wearing adventurer, but as RP would have it… he eventually became more interested in smithing and magitek. Coming to date now, he has all but given up the adventuring life and is focused more on smithing as a trade, with rewritten plans to eventually use magitek (likely MCH) as an enhancement in his battling. Mialyre Vance Probably the character that deviated the most from my original plans than any other on my list. She was originally just meant as a filler character for a company RP plot. Eventually, she took on her own life, became a full-fledged member of the company… and almost became my “main” for a period. Her story was a woman that was the “first mate” of a merchant vessel. That was it. That was pretty much the majority of my plan with her. As time went on, she became a Maelstrom officer… the captain of said merchant ship… a lead investigator, so to speak, in regards to a crime ring in Limsa… scorned and all but banished from Limsa as a result of the investigation into said crime ring… and now resides in Gridania with her lover, helping to stem the tide of poachers there. Kedi’ra Rehk The character that never got a chance to reach full potential. This little keeper of mine was planned to be something bigger and darker from the beginning of his conception… have something hidden away that not even those closest to me (namely my wife) would know about. There would be hints here and there in RP, but even those wouldn’t be overly obvious. Unfortunately, due to various issues, his story never really came to light other than just between my wife and I. As such, I look upon this character with a hint of sadness because of the grand ideas I had for him… but never had the opportunity to bring to life, fully. Otherwise, this character pretty much stayed on track for what I had planned. Johnathan Winters A midlander that was meant to simply be a hit man hired to kill Lady Grace. I had planned on him either attempting to pull off the hit, or being paid off by Lady Grace and taken on as one of her employees. The latter is what happened. From there, I planned on him remaining as a “muscle” under Lady Grace’s employ, but as RP plots would have it, he grew into a little more of an interesting character. He had a key, albeit small, role in a major company plot, then eventually simply became an alt after that plot finished. For the most part, John developed as I had planned… but as the character grew he took on a new life that I didn’t expect. C’laksi Vehnik A seeker that was created to simply be a companion in Lady Grace’s ring… just as an alt character for when I was bored with my others. She was meant to be my bubbly and fun character and, for the most part, has retained those qualities. However, as John above, she eventually became tangled up in and playing a key, albeit minor, role in the plot mentioned above. As Lady Grace (Andralyn) retired from the companion business, she handed over the reins to C’laksi…. Something I had not really planned at all to happen. From there, she’s more or less become an alt that I would hop onto from time to time when I was bored and decided to walk around Limsa in search of any random RP. Banza Mananza A plainsfolk who was made simply as a joke. I didn’t really have any plans for this little guy… however, I did use him from time to time in just random RP. No plans, no expectations… honestly he’s only really been played twice or three times… so not much to say. Raging Tower A hellsguard that I had created as a place holder for a plot that never took off. I’ve not even played him past the point of the “tutorial” quest. He had potential, but due to reasons (much the same as Kedi’ra above)… he never had a chance to come to life. Big plans, never had a chance to play him really… so not much has changed, I guess. Y’reha Tia (deleted) The main antagonist of a company plot. Has since been killed and, as such, deleted. I played him long enough to be able to travel between the cities, then simply did the RP with him as needed. As he was created for a very specific role in a company plot, he pretty much developed as planned. So... what about you guys? Link to comment
Mercurias Posted April 27, 2015 Share #2 Posted April 27, 2015 M'sat Tia My original plan for Sato was for him to die early of mysterious causes and be a vessel for me to make friends and get involved with the RP community with a 'starter' character before I decided on a real main. This backfired and Sato turned into said main. M'sato was born and raised in a tribe with a particularly brutal, Spartan way of life. He was brought up tough, capable, and vicious, believing he had to be that way when he faced the world or else risk being stomped over while everything he cared about was taken. Then he began to hear voices when he was fifteen. His perceived madness cost him his potential place in his tribe, and eventually it led to him being ejected from the tribe entirely, where he learned something of humility and empathy. Things happened, he learned he was a Hearer, he fell in love, he got blown up, he got rezzed at the last minute, and his life spiraled out of control where he couldn't reconcile what he believed he should be with who he actually was. Then he basically lost everything and kept losing it until very recently, where he's just sort of begun to stabilize. Sato's good points are in his cleverness, his hidden sort-of-maybe-kinda gentleness deep down, his loyalty, the experience his travels have given him, and his ludicrous amount of determination. Seriously, he never knows when to quit, and most of the time he keeps going even though he knows he shouldn't because he is simply afraid he wouldn't get up again if he finally lays down and admits that it's all over and he's lost. His bad points are that he's a dick who has no idea most of the time how to sit down and actually tell people things. He argues constantly, to the point that he almost always gets into fights with people whom he's trying to sit down and get closer to. His dickery is something he is making an actual effort to resolve, at least in the things he says and does to tear people down, but he's still got a ways to go. Overall, Sato is a lonely soul who doesn't know where he belongs in the world, and most of the time he holds himself together with nothing but resourcefulness and grit. Solomon Laguerre Solomon was originally designed to be a lighthearted, pervert drunk who was secretly a hardened killer when on the job. I swiftly found that to be annoying to roleplay and redid him as a merc who is 'retired' after a long and brutal career, and now manages a bar. He's 'adopted' the bar staff as something of a surrogate family, and while he revels in creating chaos and sex jokes, he is the first person to spill blood, violently, if something disturbs the peace he's made for himself. These days his womanizing is largely curbed by his "Something more than a friend", Eraiya. The two have a somewhat open arrangement, but Solomon is loathe to push hard against its constraints. I wouldn't go so far as to say he's now a one-woman, settled man, but I'd say that he's found a place he feels is home. Now he's digging in trenches to defend it. Solomon's good points are his wits, his skill, his confidence, and his flexibility. He's always ready with a retort, and always ready to flirt and play. Cross him or threaten something he cares for, though, and he's quite willing and able to ram a dagger through your arm and pin you to a table until you beg him to let you leave in peace. His bad points are his bloodlust and a general unwillingness to be serious for long, or at least actually admit to being serious. He prefers to cover what he actually thinks with a playful facade. Those two are the only ones who I've really been able to roleplay on in decent amounts, honestly. Link to comment
