Anai Posted January 19, 2020 Share #1 Posted January 19, 2020 On Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 9:00PM EST there will be an open world player-made F.A.T.E. in Ul'dah. You can sign up for a faction in advance here, or participate via walk-in at the event; however, please read the event info below or in the sign-up form as it contains important information about actual participation mechanics! This is an open world, open battle RP event open to anyone to participate or observe this tower-defense style strategy RP activity. Faction Gather/Preparation: 9:00PM EST Invasion F.A.T.E. Begins: 9:30PM EST Invasion F.A.T.E. Ends: <11:00PM EST (Est. 60-90 Minutes) Event Basics • "The Caturae" (Villains/Attacking) are marching upon Ul'dah in a show of force, attacking the city, while "The Resistance" (Heroes/Defending) are setting up outposts all around the city in hopes of intercepting the march at enough points to dismantle the effort. • The Attacking side march from one entry point of the city with the goal to exit from another point. These points are assigned before the event in secrecy by the Attacking faction. While marching, Attacking faction members can solicit recruits in /say along their path to join their march. Bystanders that wish to join these players simply need to agree to the event rules and then they will mirror the march of the player that recruited them. • The Defending side establish stationary outposts through the Nald and Thal maps. Outposts have a limit of 8 players each, and just like the Attacking faction, Defending outposts are allowed to /say recruit bystanders to join their outpost up to the maximum party size. • Each side selects a Sanctuary as their "home point" to return to when players are defeated. For this event, the Aetheryte Plaza is the Sanctuary for Defending faction, and The Gate of the Sultana entrance in Western Thanalan is the Attacking faction's Sanctuary. • With how recruiting bystanders / event walk-ins works, this is also a great opportunity for groups and FCs to come together in a show of force and recruit members through the event! Battle: Skirmish • When a group of Attacking faction cross into a Defending faction outpost, a Skirmish occurs. The outcome is predetermined by comparing which group at that clashing point has the larger force. The mechanics are set in the following way to keep the event going so we don't end up with 30+ 1:1 /random based RP battles taking up too much time: • The losing side (march group of defense outpost) will return to their Sanctuary; however, the winning side also loses an equal number of players to prevent any one side from becoming an unstoppable force early on in the event. • Once the win/lose headcount has been determined, players are free to partner up and RP out the results of the skirmish in their fashion. • The Attacking march continues until all Attacking forces have either exited their destination, or are defeated. Other Rules & Info • If you want your character to be a bit more deeply involved in planning and strategy, you can hop onto our Discord where we have channels set up for information and discussion. Otherwise, just show up at the Sanctuary of the faction you'd like to join at event time and we'll be using that half-hour to explain everything and get parties formed! • To make headcounts easily, the Attacking side has some moderators that will be helping with headcounts, and the Defending side party leaders will be in the loop so every march group and defense outpost more or less has at least 1 "GM" there to help with any issues or determining Skirmish results. • Some Attacking or Defending players may have a change of heart during the event. Participants are permitted to drop out of their faction (""Turncoat"/"Betrayal") once; however, they are not able to be re-recruited by either side. This is to prevent players from jumping sides so much that is disrupts the event or gives a particular side an advantage. • Why aren't Ul'dah and the Eorzean Alliance taking care of this themselves? Good question; however, the Aetheryte system and lift elevators are not to be used during this event by participants (unless travelling back to your Sanctuary), so we can safely assume they're busy keeping those areas clear, wink. If we let Attackers use the aetheryte and lifts, they could unfairly skip most of the outposts. • Because of the strategy involved, both factions often meet in-character to discuss their plans. Espionage and information brokerage, even by independent parties, is encouraged so long as you obtain and share the information in-character in a reasonable way. • What if there's disruptions? Our golden rule is simple: focus on the event and the fun. It's in a public place so we can't prevent interruptions, but by providing specific rules/mechanics and keeping tabs of actual participants versus bystanders, we hope we'll have your cooperation in focusing on the event and the fun and not any distractions that occur! Questions? You can contact Anai Stairell, Furtive Mongrel, Eigentitor Jaraba, Rhika Kir'tronis in-game on Balmung, or pop onto to Heroes vs Villains Discord Community and ask there! You can reply here too but sometimes I forget to check the forums, oop. See you on the battlefield! Link to comment
