II. RP Style

  • Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy):

  • I would be flexible to any option other than "none" :P.  We are playing a game, so some OOC activities would assuredly have to be allowed.  I enjoy being in character, however, and that's where I'd really rather be, truth be told.

  • Views on RP combat and injuries:

  • I'm of mixed views on this, though my characters in the past have participated in both combat with other players, and sustaining injury as a result.  I would expect any combat, even were it to suddenly erupt spontaneously and organically (which can and should be allowed to happen in a role-play environment...within understandable limits), would never rise to the level of permanent death or injury, unless agreed upon.  Also, Final Fantasy XIV IS a world where healing magic, and the ability to raise individuals from the dead, exist (mechanically, at the vary least), so while there are scars in the character creation, and scarred NPC, if one is laid up for weeks with an injury, you might want to pop into the local apothecary...just sayin'

  • Views on IC romance:

  • Not high up on my totem pole, but again, if it develops through an evolutionary process, who am I to stand in my character's way 8-)?

  • Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc):

  • I haven't experienced this, so am unsure if there is particular issue in this type of RP that spawns controversy (as the above are sometimes wont to do...).  I can't for the life of me think why I'd be bothered by it.  Maybe someone walking up on me and telling me they are a long-lost Uncle :??  Hmmm, I might take a pause to that, perhaps...or I might just row with the flow.

  • Views on lore:

  • I really enjoy lore, and try to adhere to it as much as my understanding allows .  If there are holes in the lore, or unclear aspects, I'm more than happy to fill in my own blanks as well, sometimes.  When we think about our own world, and the many interpretations of, oh, say, its creation for example, there are hundreds and hundreds of differing views and thoughts on the subject.  And of those, maybe only one of those is right...so even in a world such as Hydaelyn, where there may actually be canon lore attached to a particular subject, a character MAY interpret that lore differently, or disregard it in favor of something equally plausible within the framework of the game world.  One can see that that very thing goes on every day in our own world, and could be expected there.  Again, though, my PERSONAL vision is that official lore is a thing to be followed (but I can understand role-play that doesn't...that make sense?)

  • I have another side-note to this, which may or may not pertain to this section (but I'm gonna put it here anyways :P).  In addition to role-playing the lore, I feel its important to role-play the game world as well.  And what I mean by that is I don't want my RP to always feel like I could be doing it while cosplaying at the Yee-Olde Renaissance Faire. These are wonderful, well thought-out lands, lands of Hydaelin, not Earth, with powers and magic and heroes abound (regular shlumps, too though ;)).  I feel that if you limit the RP to what is expected or possible to what could only plausibly take place on Earth, that's kind of the same as disregarding the lore to me, and would be...disappointing.  Its all one grand package, folks...your role-play is in Hydaelyn !

  • Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc):

  • It always boggled me in other games that people could get their head around flying sparkle-ponies and magic shooting out of their hands, but RP had to be done in /say because "how do I talk to you from a distance without seeing you?  Utter nonsense!"  Final Fantasy XIV has no excuse...even the NPC are seen talking into their ear piece like they're Solid Snake or something .  So it can be done, meaning in-context communications through the grand reaches of space and time and dimension, and I think that for that reason, avenues should be set up so it CAN be done within RP organizations.  Still, its kind of nice to have an optional place to park your can and take a breather now and again, so OOC channels are fine in my book too...I did mention "optional", though, right?
