Question about naming conventions.

Recommended Posts

I have read the naming conventions and looked at a random name generator for Hyur male Midlanders but I am not a big fan of most of the first names.

I will choose a different name if the name Mike is too different from lore to be useable but the main reason I made this thread was more-so for personal opinions of other Roleplayers.

What would you think if you seen the name Mike in Final Fantasy? Would you accept it, not want me in the group, or tell me to change it to fit lore better? I just want some personal opinions.

Michael should be a fitting name for Midlander lore. So I would say maybe you can have your official character name be Michael and just tell people that to just call you Mike as a nickname. That way you can kill two birds with one stone. Staying true to the lore but having the name that you want as well.

I agree with Rock on this one. Put down Michael, but then just ask to be called Mike. That even adds a level of immersion to the game, having to tell people every time they use your full name. ;)

That said, there are always exceptions to lore, and Mike is even reasonably close to a run-of-the-Lore-mill name. You wouldn't be offending anyone if you stuck with Mike and had an IC reason.

Follow your gut, and don't look back.

I'm with others on either going with Michael or Mikhail, or something of the sorts.

Though I would just leave that as a lore background thing and still put Mike on my character, if you want people to go by it even OOC, and then just explain it IC if it ever comes up. If you're going to be introducing yourself as Mike it seems simpler that way to me.

Personally I'm using a stage name that doesn't follow naming convention at all, but I have an IC name following the convention and a background reason to follow it, and I'm obsessed with unified branding; how else can people find me that I knew from other games!

My view of things might be influenced by having a grandfather that used his nickname the entire time to the degree that I literally didn't know what his real first name was before he died.Though they still used his nickname rather than real name in the funeral.
