Mephist Posted October 20, 2013 Share #1 Posted October 20, 2013 Hello all, I will be joining the rp crew on Balmung shortly and I thought an introduction was in order. I'm no stranger to rp both on and off mmos. I have been roleplaying in video games starting with Everquest and up to my most recent SWTOR. Away from the video game scene I have been playing table top rpgs from basic dungeons and dragons, world of darkness, gurps, cyberpunk, shadowrun, and mutants and masterminds to name a small sampling. So with that in mind I'm a big fan of character backgrounds, development, and feel a character can often times be defined and shaped by their interactions with other people in their community. I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone and setting up roleplay with others in the community. With that I guess I should say something about my character. He is two parts : http://images5.fanpop.com/image/photos/25800000/Rumpelstiltskin-once-upon-a-time-25823037-600-750.jpg[/img] One part: And One Part: Priest of Nald'thal http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120722092260/finalfantasy/images/f/f6/FFXIV_Nald%27s_Reflection.jpg[/img] I have a longer and more detailed history set for him, but since I feel I have already taken up a fair bit of space with this intro post then I will keep it short for now. Mephist is the son of a poor and less than ethical Duskwight tradesmen. Like many others they relocated to Ul'dah in an attempt to change their fortunes. For all his father's detailed scheming the only thing the family saw was more and more heartache. It was through one of these schemes that Mephist came into contact with the priests of Nald'Thal. Despite many warnings and signs placed before him Mephist's father still sought to cheat the church of the god of commerce and by extension the lord of contracts. The end result was a dire one and Nald'thal took his payment as the lord of the underworld. From then on Mephist studied at the church and joined their order. He believes strongly in the power of one's word and Nald'thal's power to punish those would would dare break a deal brokered in his name. Mephist is a deal maker and traveler. He moves from town to town, community to community and seeks out pauper and prince and offers them deals to test their faith and if found deserving he will reward them with a better lot in life than when he found them. Right now his powers are weak, so most deals involve rather mundane actions. With his own flair for the dramatic he will attempt to make these mundane actions appear as mystical as possible, often using sleight of hand and stealth to fool onlookers. As his powers grow he will be able to offer more and more to those in more desperate situations. He writes all deals out and on each contract is an ancient passage he found while in his studies with the church that binds those who sign it to Nald'thal. He always carries a book of deals he has made and never forgets those who have shown their faith lacking. Sooner or later he will bring about their punishment, no second chances . . . he is that kind of man, if Nald'Thal doesn't first. “He’s like fire and ice and rage. He’s like the night and the storm in the heart of the sun. He’s ancient and forever. He burns at the center of time and can see the turn of the universe. And… he’s wonderful.” From Doctor Who Series 3: Family of Blood **Anyway, that is more than enough for now I guess. I welcome meetings and possible deals with anyone and everyone. As well as comments about my concept, or ideas to help it out. Link to comment
Olofantur Posted October 20, 2013 Share #2 Posted October 20, 2013 Greetings Mephist, As a note on the length of your post, its hardly off putting, nice to see a good chuck of thought and detail. I enjoy Shadowrun as well, have you had the chance to play the isometric adaptation? Either way, welcome to the RPC, feel free to post any questions you might have, take a look at the linkshell hall to get an idea of who you might meet out in the wide world. Are you as excited for the new Series as I am? I'm excited! Interesting character introduction, I toyed wit hthe idea of working under the banner of Nald'Thal in 1.0 but it never really panned out due to a number of issues with the lore/ what I was considering. Mephist Posted October 20, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted October 20, 2013 Thanks for the welcome. I have tried the adaption and I'm am indeed excited about the new series. I guess the only question I have at the moment is, do you know any groups or free companies that are related to the worship of Nald'thal or any of the gods? I didn't see any on the link shell tab. When I'm done writing out his detailed back story I will post it. Link to comment
Olofantur Posted October 20, 2013 Share #4 Posted October 20, 2013 Hmm I don't know of any that are centered around twelve worship myself... Perhaps http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3321 would interest you on a more academic/aetherytic side. Hmm now that you mention it i'm kind of curious, i'll make sure to update you if I come across anything. Link to comment
YesGood Posted October 20, 2013 Share #5 Posted October 20, 2013 There's the Blades of Nald'thal, I think. I don't know how much time is spent actually worshipping though. Link to comment
Mephist Posted October 20, 2013 Author Share #6 Posted October 20, 2013 Thanks for the suggestions. I definitely feel the Blades are not quite my cup of tea and the collection of magi are intriguing I'm not sure they would fit his flair. I will continue to search as well, but I truly appreciate the suggestions. I do hope to involve myself in rp with any and all FCs, so if anyone is thinking up a story and need a devil at the crossroads type deal maker with good intentions, let me know lol. Link to comment
Rinh Hallani Posted October 20, 2013 Share #7 Posted October 20, 2013 Welcome aboard! Love the thought you've put into your character. And ooh, Doctor Who! Link to comment
Mephist Posted October 20, 2013 Author Share #8 Posted October 20, 2013 Thanks. I've already decided that two of his little character quirks are from the tenth doctor, 1: When traveling with someone he says, "allons-y." And 2: "When dealing with someone who he can't help due to their own choices he says, "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." So his attitude is very whovian at times, especially when in a rather chipper mood.
