ansemaru Posted November 12, 2013 Share #1 Posted November 12, 2013 I've been playing for about two months now, and roleplaying for a portion of that time. But to be honest, almost all of my RP has been with members of my Free Company (who are primarily individuals I knew prior to starting FFXIV). I love them, and I love RPing with them, but we tend to only really RP as a group/in our storyline once a week, and sometimes I get the urge to interact with others when they're offline/busy with other things, and I really don't want to pester them when they've got other plans. The obvious solution would be seeking out players beyond my (currently fairly small) FC, but it hasn't been so easy. Gilgamesh is far from an exclusively or even primarily RP server, so I can't assume anything about who is and is not an RPer in the first place, and perhaps more crucial is the fact that I'm terrible at approaching others. It's hard enough for me to ask members of my own FC for RP interaction outside of our weekly meetings, let alone strangers. I have trouble enough talking to people OOC in MMORPGs! And I'm still getting used to posting on/making use of forums like this one! I just straight-up don't know how to go about looking or asking for RP without annoying anybody (and kind of worry that nobody would want to RP with me in the first place, since I don't seem to fit the mold of a lot of the individuals I've seen outside of my FC.) So I guess this is me asking "what should I do?" in addition to "who the hell is out there?" I do really want to branch out and interact with others, it's just proven to be fairly daunting. ansemaru Posted November 12, 2013 Author Share #2 Posted November 12, 2013 Hmm, so it would be a good idea to seek out a location where people frequently RP? When I get online next, I'll add you! Link to comment
Olofantur Posted November 12, 2013 Share #3 Posted November 12, 2013 Heya Ansemaru, I'm not the best at approaching others out of the blue, I'm usually faffing about working on a craft, so I assume the same of most others, though i'm usually wrong. While if on Balmung, I would offer to send you a tell myself, I will instead link to the "Coalition" group of Gilgamesh. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 A little bit about it; it serves as the hub of OOC communication for roleplayers in game, this can be as simple as voicing where you are to taking time to snag a few people for a pre-planned scene. Hopefully you won't feel to nervous to join, and once you're in you can always take your time with opening up to general shennaniganry. If that doesn't serve there are plenty of other linkshells listed on the directory (though we're close to a "clear out" period where some of the inactive ones are removed, so you might run into a few that aren't operating any more.) http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=15&filtertf_srvr=Gilgamesh Hope that helps you get a little more comfortable in Eorzea, best of luck in your journey. ansemaru Posted November 12, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted November 12, 2013 Goodness, thank you! Both of you are being a great help, and I really appreciate it. I'll start hunting around Limsa Lominsa- hopefully I'll bump into some players who are RPing not just in tells! And I'm also going to ask for an invitation to some promising linkshells. It'll hopefully be a little easier to inquire after RP in those... Link to comment

Always glad to help, if you ever roll an alt on Balmung (the wee hours of the morning are best.) feel free to throw me a tell. Link to comment
Haven's Fox Posted November 12, 2013 Share #6 Posted November 12, 2013 Hey ansemaru definitely come join the OOC channels that are set up. Link to comment
Olofantur Posted November 12, 2013 Share #7 Posted November 12, 2013 I just saw your introduction post with your tumblr link.. Bertholdt Taquel looks so good, why won't you finish him Q_Q. and your image inspired by "J'en Ai Marre" made me chuckle, Parlez-vous français? Fanboying aside, I like your styling, the facial expressions on the works i've scrolled through are charming. As a note, the RPC has many artists/art lovers (of varying types.) so don't be surprised if people bug you for a commission or two if you start or post on a Art thread. Link to comment
ansemaru Posted November 12, 2013 Author Share #8 Posted November 12, 2013 Lately, I've been doing a lot more sketches and black and white stuff. It's mostly a way to exercise my artistic muscles without committing to a huge piece, so there's a lot of things that probably won't ever be fully finished, unfortunately. I am glad you like my artwork, though! Je parle un petit peu de français. Mais pas trop de français pour le dernier quatre ans, alors... I was thinking about posting in the board for artists, actually! But I'd need to draw a lot more actually relevant art- right now, my only FFXIV-related picture is the one of Aumeric on the first page of the blog. I'd be all about doing commissions for people, but I think I need to get the hang of things like the costuming and visual style of the game. I should probably also have more examples that are more universally relevant to the people around here than huge heaps of Attack on Titan fanart. Link to comment
Siha Posted November 12, 2013 Share #9 Posted November 12, 2013 At the moment I haven't been on Gilgamesh much because I had the exact same problem you're having but I wish I'd used the forums sooner because as soon as I asked for roleplay on here there were plenty of people willing! That aside, I do have characters on Gilgamesh and depending on what platform you're on I'd always be willing to jump on and play with you, currently my main on that server is X'Nala Yanni, a Seeker Gladiator who's a bit on the quiet stoic side. If you're on Playstation you can add me (Moxxi22) and toss me a message anytime you want to rp and I'm on! Or if you're on the PC I'm usually signed into my AIM (WingsLikeAshes) and the same goes for that too, you'll never be bothering or annoying me. :3 Link to comment
Olofantur Posted November 12, 2013 Share #10 Posted November 12, 2013 Heh, well I think when you do work up to it you'll do a fine job in the Art thread. I agree with you that having a firm grasp of the design flow is important, my own writings took a time to get started because I wanted to have a large number of samples (marked by region and time period) to pull from as in game examples. Mostly trying to capture the flow of speech. I speak french when ever I visit my family or talk to coworkers in Quebec, but I don't get much use out of it in the day to day. If you can work out a word or two it might be worth marking "F" in the search info panel (on the social pane) for your character, i've found that a) most people use the auto-translate anyways and b) I think match ups prioritize people with the same selected languages before placing them in a larger pool, just a hunch as my queue times are shorter during the same time period when I have both selected. Like Moxxi said, the forums are a great place to get to know a few people or even make plans to meet in game. Hope you have the chance to meet lots of interesting people. Link to comment
Den Posted December 16, 2013 Share #11 Posted December 16, 2013 I'm out there! Well, I don't know if you are still looking, but I was scanning through the forums and I noticed this one. I haven't seen very many Gilgamesh posts, honestly, but if you are looking message R'adehn tia. Link to comment
ansemaru Posted December 16, 2013 Author Share #12 Posted December 16, 2013 Ah, I appreciate it, but since making this post I've moved to Balmung. My apologies! Link to comment
squigly Posted December 19, 2013 Share #13 Posted December 19, 2013 Aww, Got to the bottom there and sunk me ship a little. I find it easiest to just make comments in character at what people do. Everyone I've done it to so far on Gilg' have actually responded in Character, been a little surprised at that too . Hope you're getting somewhere on Balmung though. Link to comment
